Podium
"Now if I can just - excuse me - get through, I'll try to grab a word with the winner of today's race ... Excuse me! Nigel!"
"What is it?"
"Nigel! It's Murray from BBC Sports. I was hoping to ask you about your victory in today's race."
"Of course."
"So, Nigel, you've received a lot of criticism in your past for your choice of mount. Most riders prefer a bull: superior strength, better endurance. But this season you seem to be intent on proving all those people wrong."
"What can I say, Murray? Part of it comes down to skill, but part of it is also down to my Heff. He's well-trained, eager to please and fast."
"And he's also a lot smaller than those bulls."
"One of the side-effects of having him castrated."
"Well, Heff's size is something you have used to your advantage. What is it? Four times this season you've come first?"
"Well, Murray, when you're on the track and working your way up through the herd, you have to be able to use every inch of space. When the big boys are crowding each other out, sometimes a little guy like Heff can just slip through and take the lead."
"As you demonstrated today, Nigel. But you do know that Nelson has called for a stewards' enquiry? That manoeuvre - sliding under Nelson's Brahma to take the lead - has caused some controversy in the paddock. Some would call it a stroke of genius; others would call it a clear violation of the rules. What do you have to say?"
"Well, Murray. You know what they say about the big bulls? They can't cope with a little under steer."
"Nigel, thank you very much!"
