I

You see a man that works two jobs trying to make ends meet, with his high school girlfriend that he's been with for 8 years, that's tired. You see a man that has dark circles under his eyes from laying awake at night dreaming about how his life might have been had he done either this or that. You see a man and you think

"Hey he has pretty nice cars, lives in a nice apartment, what could be wrong with his life."

Well here's what I see. I see a woman. I see a woman that makes me forget my sorrows, a woman that reminds me there's more to life than this mans two dead end jobs and old high school girlfriend that he doesn't love anymore.

I see a woman that will softly run her hand over my arm just because it makes me feel better, I see a smile that gives my world some light each and every day.

I see a first. I see the first ray of sun I've ever truly felt.

When she smiles the room gets brighter, when she pushes her dark shoulder length hair behind her ear her cheekbones become defined, when her normally very dark brown eyes becomes light and I can see myself in their reflection.

My heart beats fast, and though not feeling it with the woman I've known since I was in high school, for the first time I feel love.

And time passes.

And her normal dark eyes no longer become light. She's broken and hurting though I don't know why.

My heart breaks when I see her because I don't know how to bring this beautiful woman comfort.

Her smile fades, and she stops pushing her hair back, she just always keeps it put up to keep it out of the way.

And one day she left.

My heart shattered.

I sat by myself and in my dreams I saw her.

My life spiraled.

My 8 year girlfriend left me.

Then things started to look up.

My 8 year girlfriend had left me. I wasn't trapped in a dead end life. I only was if I had chosen to be.

I sat back and remembered her smile and her frown. Her good days and her bad. And I knew I wanted to spend my life with her.

I got up and had gone to a mutual friend and found out what happened to her.

I showed up at her doorstep, and there she was. She was tear stained, she was broken, but she was still everything I wanted.

As I kept my eyes locked with hers I slowly slid my hand to be interlocked with hers.

She squeezed my hand and slow soft tears escaped from her beautiful eyes.

"It's you."

I couldn't help but smile.

"It's you."

She jumped into my arms and gave me the biggest hug. My wife of now 15 years and my absolute world. My first true love.
