Chapter 17: Preparation

(Normal pov)

The Chimera made landfall at a massive island that was rich with fresh water and the trees were plentiful with coconuts, bananas and mangos. Sinbad and the remainder of his crew took this time to careen their ship and repair any extensive damage caused by the storm they survived weeks ago, but despite having to get the Chimera seaworthy again, the crew of this ship were beyond relieved to be on land again.

Sinbad was currently finishing a mango he had retrieved from a tree that bore the fruit, he made sure to feed Spike as well, the poor dog was skinner than usual due to food deprivation, but the dog looked happy being on land as well as the rest of the Chimera's crew. Marina approached Sinbad and Spike, she crouched down to the dog and cooed affectionately while the ship dog growled contently and licked Marina's chin, causing the woman to chuckle and scratch the dogs head affectionately.

"Have you had your fill of fresh water and food?" Sinbad asked, Marina looked up at her man and nodded. "I have. Kale and a handful of men have gathered weeks worth of fresh water and food here, the rest of the men are still at work careening our beloved ship." Sinbad nodded in acknowledgment as he watched the remainder of his men careen and repair the ship, letting out a heavy sigh, Sinbad murmurs out. "We've lost so many friends out there. I just hope their deaths weren't in vain."

"They won't." Marina said firmly as she stood up to Sinbad and grabbed both his hands, interlacing their fingers together. "We're going to find Captain Shih and her Red Fleet, we're going to return to Harper and aid him and we're going to strike a blow that will cripple the British Empire." Sinbad smiled and nodded at his woman's words, but before he could respond, he heard exclamations and voices where the Chimera was being careened. Both Sinbad and Marina saw handfuls of Chinese pirates exit the thick jungle and they were armed to the teeth, shouting in Chinese at the men who sailed the Chimera.

Running towards the groups of Chinese pirates, Sinbad and Marina held their hands up as some of the foreign pirates aimed their swords and guns in their direction. One of the pirates, who was female approached, her ebony hair was flowing down her back, yet a bun was tied behind her head with a crimson blooming flower hair pin sticking through her hair. She wore crimson and black leather armor and boots, she had a katana strapped to her curvy hips and two flintlocks strapped to her thighs. The woman appeared to be in her late thirties, she was beautiful and she looked battle hardened, to Sinbad and Marina's surprise, the pirate then spoke fluent English, yet her accent was still there.

"I am Ching Shih, captain of Devil's Fire and leader of the Red Sail Fleet. Who are you and why are you here?"

Sharing a quick look, Sinbad and Marina nodded before the Chimera's captain cleared his throat and stepped forward. "Mistress Ching, my name is Sinbad, captain of the Chimera. Me and my crew come on behalf of Captain Harper Haddock of the Night Fury. We're here to extend a hand of invitation to join our brothers in the West Indies to expel British forces that were sent to kill us." Ching smiled lightly and placed her hands on her waist. "Fortune seems to favor you Captain Sinbad, me and my Red Sail Fleet are already on our way to the West Indies and to join the fight." Both Sinbad and Marina grinned at this news and nodded in acknowledgment.

"Excellent. Unfortunately my ship suffered damage in a storm and I lost half of my crew due to dehydration and food deprivation when my ship was becalmed." Sinbad confessed, he then gestured to the tipped over Chimera. "My men were in the process of repairing and careening it. Perhaps it would go faster if some of your men aided mine?" Ching nodded and turned to her men and spoke Chinese.

"Zôu. Bāngzhù tāmen."

Her men nodded and approached Sinbad's men to aid them in finish preparing the Chimera to be seaworthy. Captain Shih then looked out towards the horizon and asked. "Have you seen the forces our enemies have at their disposal?" Marina stepped up and answered the Chinese warlord. "No. We set sail before our enemy arrived, however we were led to believe you were in China." Shih turned to face Marina and nodded. "I was. However, me and my people wished to go to war after news of the thousands of our pirate brethren were hung in London. We left China as soon as the news reached us and have been sailing for months." Sinbad stepped up and nodded. "With you by our side? We'll have the advantage of numbers. But I don't wish to keep Captain Haddock waiting any longer than he already has for us, once repairs on my ship are complete? We should sail immediately."

Shih hummed in agreement. "Very well. My fleet is anchored on the Southern coast of this island. I'll send word for them to sail to our position and we will leave when you are ready." That being said, Captain Shih took her leave and relayed her orders to her men, leaving Sinbad and Marina alone. "Fortune does seem to favor us this day, especially after the horrific weeks we've had." Marina stated, causing Sinbad to hum in agreement, he turned to Marina and nodded at her. "We'll need to make sure we've packed enough food and fresh water here and ensure they're secured. I'd rather not like to repeat going into another storm that'll becalm us." Marina smiled and nodded. "I understand, love. Kale and the vanguard should be back hunting for any animals in the forest."

As if on cue, Kale and the Chimera's best fighters exited the forest caring two dead massive anaconda serpents and small nets filled with fish. That along with the baskets full of bananas and mangos should be able to hold the Chimera's crew over until they return to the West Indies. Marina then excused herself to help Kale and the Vanguard secure the game they caught in the jungle, meanwhile Sinbad looked out towards the horizon and sighed out.

"Hang in there Harper. We're on our way."

(Harper's pov)

As I awoke from sleep, I sat up and looked down to see Madison clinging to my torso, her legs entangled with my own and her head nuzzled into my neck. She was so beautiful, the sight of her still sleeping with a smile on her face caused me to smile and to caress her pixie blond hair lovingly. She then woke up and looked up into my eyes, causing the both of us to smile warmly at each other, we shared a loving kiss and held each other close. Once breaking apart from each others lips, we rested our foreheads together, she then murmured to me.

"Good morning handsome."

I chuckled lightly and nuzzled her nose against mine.

"Good morning beautiful."

Rising out of bed, I reattached my prosthetic leg and groaned out loud, approaching a water basin and washing the stench of sweat and sex off my body. Madison got out of bed and embraced me from behind, peppering my bare skin with kisses, causing me to groan pleasantly while she caressed my toned body lovingly. "Preparations are in order I take it?" She murmured into my ear, sending a pleasant chill to crawl down my spine, her elegant British accent made my knees weak. "They are. We've established defenses on the beach, laid out extra traps in the forest and ensured our fleet is scattered around the island. At first the British will believe us outnumbered? But once the our enemy attempted to overwhelm us? We'll spring our trap." Madison hummed in acknowledgement as she kissed my cheek and began washing off her own body.

While we were washing off, a series of knocks echoed off my door, turning to my door, I spoke out. "Yes?" On the other side of the door came Mr. Ingerman's voice. "Captain! A carrier owl touched down on the ship, with a message attached to its leg. Its addressed to you." Once I was clean enough, I threw on my crimson tunic and put on my black leather pants and boot and opened the door, wide enough for me to shield Madison's nakedness from Flint's eyes. He then handed me the letter and I took it. "Thank you Mr. Ingerman." He nodded and took his leave. I then began to unfold the letter given to me and then proceeded to read it.

"Harper, you'll be pleased to know that me and my crew survived and we're now en route to Sharks-lane Isle. Also, it seems Darius Bludvist has had a change of heart and has thrown his support to our cause. We should be arriving shortly to join the fight."

Nu Stormheart

I grinned at this news and shared it with Madison. "This letter is news from Captain Nu Stormheart, saying that Darius Bludvist and his fleet are now here to join the fight!" Madison was now dressing herself and smiled at this news. "That's most welcomed news my dear." After dressing in a sleek black tunic as well as leather pants and boots, she approached me and caressed my cheeks lovingly. "Our numbers continue to swell." I hum in agreement and gesture outside. "We'll have to relay this news to Red Death and the rest of the captains. But first? Shall we get some food and enjoy the time we still have alone together?" Madison smiled warmly and kissed my forehead.

"We shall."

(Normal pov— Dragon's Edge, on board the Reaper)

Vaughn Grimborn, Preston Black, Johann and all the British commodores from the American colonies had all gathered at Dragon's Edge to discuss a plan of attack against the pirates rallying at Dragon's Edge. Vaughn, who was seated in his chair pointed towards Sharks-lane Isle on the map of the Bahamas and then gestured to Johann. "Captain Johann here has discovered that our enemies are all gathering at this island here, they know they're outnumbered and outgunned, which is why we're going to strike first and rid the world of high seas piracy once and for all."

Preston Black stepped forward and cleared his throat. "Sir, with respect, our enemy has been at this island for some time now, surely they'll use the knowledge of the land against us." Turning to the British commodore who accompanied him, Vaughn hummed in agreement. "No doubt. Which is why we're going to be prepared for any surprises the pirates may have in store for us." The pirate hunter then turned to the colonial British commodores. "Its likely the pirates will set a trap out at sea. According to Johann? Sharks-lane Isle is massive, the pirates could easily hold in reserve their ships and attempt to ambush us while we're distracted by deploying our men on the sand."

"Then what do you suggest?" One of the colonial commodores asked.

Vaughn replied. "We hold back a handful of our ships and wait for the pirates to spring their trap. While the main fleet is focused on deploying our men on the sand? The pirates will attack from the rear, thats when our reserved ships will rake them from bow to stern before they even get the opportunity to sink the main fleet." Turning to Johann, Vaughn could see... doubt etched in his face. "Do you doubt my plan Johann?" Vaughn asked in a cool tone, the Arabian man turned to the hunter leader and shrugged. "I have no doubt your plan will succeed. However, Harper Haddock always has a back up plan. When we scouted the enemy location, I saw no sign of the Tempest or Chimera. And as we know, pirates the likes of Darius Bludvist and Ching Shih are grave threats to us all, their numbers in both men and ships could eclipse our combined forces easily!"

"What are you implying?" Preston asked, turning to the man, Johann answered. "I believe reinforcements are on their way to decimate us. If thats the case? Then we cannot possibly hope for success." The men gathered murmured amongst themselves at this likely possibility, Vaughn then clicked his tongue and nodded. "Both pirate fleets alone eclipse ours. We simply don't have the man or firepower to defeat both fleets, if they are en route to join their pirate brethren." Rising out of his seat, Vaughn sighed heavily and shook his head. "Thats if these two fleets arrive to support Harper Haddock and those under his command. We proceed with our plan."

The men began speaking in outrage and in disagreement, but Vaughn pulled out a flintlock and killed one of the British commodores, when then colonial commodore dropped dead on the floor, the room fell silent and everyone could see Vaughn's eyes were devoid of any remorse or regret for killing one of his own countrymen. "Does anyone else wish to resit my plan?" He asked in a menacing tone, causing the room to fall silent. "I thought so." Vaughn said, he then turned to Johann and rose his eyebrows at him. "You and your men will sail in first, you are to act as if you wish to join the fight and resist colonial rule in the West Indies. Get Harper away from his men and assassinate him, without his leadership? Our enemy will scatter like cockroaches, needing only us to crush them underfoot. Am I understood?"

Johann nodded in understanding, Vaughn then gestured towards the door, silently commanding him to set sail for Sharks-lane at once. Once Johann was out of the room, Vaughn turned to Preston. "You will command all British forces and be on the look out for any pirates who will reinforce Haddock's numbers. Meanwhile I will engage the pirates directly with my own fleet. With any luck? We will emerge victorious and rid the world of those animals and securing our names in history, as the Englishmen who ended high seas piracy."
