Chapter 20 - Hot Chocolate
OLIVIA
"Livi?"
I hear a soft knock on the door. I sigh, watching the knives in my hands scrape against each other. It's fascinating, beautiful even, how the sparks jump to life, how the fire dies.
I already know who it is, but I call out, "Who is it?"
"Livi," He complains.
"Fine, come in."
The door creaks open and there, of course, stands Robin with a half smile and a steaming mug. I glance at it with a raised eyebrow, taking a swig from my flask. The rum bubbles in my stomach, prickling through my veins.
"Hi," He says, kicking the door shut behind him. I take another drink, staring at the ceiling. "Livi, it's too late to be drinking that," He tells me, setting the mug down on the desk.
"Whatcha gonna do about it?" I sneer, swishing the rum around in my mouth. When he, as I had predicted, reaches out and tries to take it from me, I spit it in his face.
"What the--?" He wipes his face with the back of his hand, half laughing, half scowling. "Fine, fine. You win."
"Good."
"You should try this stuff, though," He points to the mug. "Almost better than alcohol."
I give the mug a skeptical glance. "What is it?" I ask.
"Hot chocolate. You like?"
"Ew." I scrunch up my nose. Sweet stuff doesn't appeal to me anymore. I stick out my tongue at his mug. "No."
"But it's Mexican spiced!"
"Of course you'd say that," I chuckle. "If it's Mexican spiced, it must be good." I stop laughing when I see him staring at me. "What?"
"That's the first time I've seen you laugh since I got here," He says, coming closer to me.
I hate the way that my heart beats faster and my chest burns as he approaches. He stops right in front of me, eyes full of concern and something else, but I look away before I can figure out what.
"Let me know if you need anything," He says in a soft voice. He leans down, dropping a quick kiss on my forehead. "Good night, Livi."
