Send Them Off Right

*WARNING, GRAPHICS*

Percy stretched as he stood. He could almost feel the cool wind blowing over the water. Hearing a satisfying crack in his spine, he straightened and turned to search for a clean shirt.

"Captain, I need to-" Reyna opened the door and faltered for a moment when she saw her captain's back. Crisscrossed with scars, it looked like it could be the site of a battlefield. Percy froze when he realized what had stopped her voice, then sharply jerked the shirt over his head.

"What do you need, Reyna?" He asked, turning. The daughter of Enyo shook her head lightly to clear it and looked up again.

"I need to know where you sent Jason, because I need him to help me with some stuff."

"What do you mean where I sent Jason? I didn't send him anywhere, if he's not up yet he will be belowdecks."

Reyna shook her head. "He's not on the ship at all. Are you saying you didn't send him anywhere?"

Percy frowned. "No." Grabbing his boots, he slipped them on and snatched his coat, slipping it on easily.

"Then we need to find him." Reyna pointed out.

"Call the crew on deck." Percy ordered her, pulling his hair back out of his face and knotting it at the back of his head. He turned, looking for his tricorn.

"Yes sir." Reyna left the room swiftly, her strong voice echoing over the ship as she bellowed for the crew to meet on the deck.

Percy heard pounding footsteps as he pushed open the door to his quarters and stepped back into the doorway just in time to avoid Leo sprinting past. Shaking his head, he followed the son of Hephaestus.

His boots clunked against the wood of the deck satisfyingly as he marched over to the group of slightly confused teenagers waiting for him.

"Who's working the brig?" He barked, already knowing the answer.

"Frank, Cap'n." Ethan reported.

Percy nodded. "You'll tell him what happened during the meeting."

Ethan saluted. "Yes, Cap'n."

"Where's Jason?" Piper asked. She felt a strange pang in her chest when she realized the son of Zeus wasn't among the rest of the crew.

"That's what we're here to discuss. When was the last time each of you saw him?"

The demigods thought back.

"When he woke me up for my shift." Mitchell said.

"I got up to go to the head. When I came back he was out like a light." Leo commented.

The rest of the crew had last seen him before heading to their quarters that night.

Percy frowned. "Anything strange happen during any of your shifts?"

Piper and Mitchell glanced at each other. "Well, Mitchell heard this weird splash during our watch. He looked into it and didn't see anything, but then I thought I heard someone moving on deck. There was no one else there. After a few minutes later the wind picked up on the deck. I thought it was Jason...." She trailed off as she realized what that could mean.

Percy's frown deepened, but he didn't say anything. At first the children of Aphrodite thought that he was angry at them, but when they opened their mouths to ask if they were in trouble, Reyna made a motion for them to be quiet.

The captain's sea-green eyes closed as he slowly stretched his consciousness out around the ship, then out into the ocean. Slowly, he searched sections of the sea for ships or people in the water.

Suddenly his eyes flew open and the ship began to move.

"Get the sails up, we've got to move!" He bellowed.

"Did you find Jason?" Reyna asked as the rest of the crew scrambled to work, Ethan darting belowdecks to talk to Frank.

"I did. And it's not pretty."

(There's some graphicness and grossness coming up, fair warning)

Thalia was fighting for her life. Her crewmates lay strewn across the deck, blood pooling everywhere.

She was the last one. The closest body to her and her attacker was Freddie, a red-haired son of Apollo. His normally sparkling blue eyes were dull and his lanky frame was covered in red stains from the huge gashes across his chest and stomach. Next to him lay Logan, another child of Apollo, who had died trying to save his brother. His tanned, freckled skin was pale in death and his brown eyes were probably also dull, but it was hard to tell since his death had come with a sword through his skull.

Turning her attention back to her attacker, Thalia barely escaped being decapitated by ducking and rolling sideways. The man, his head covered by a black hood, pressed forward, shoving her backwards as he attacked viciously.

Thalia stepped on something squishy and cringed. Taking the risk and looking down, she jumped backwards over Drew's body, earning herself a moment's reprieve.

She could hear a second man's maniacal laughter as she struggled against her opponent.

With a rock hard swing, the man knocked her spear from her hands. Thalia backpedaled furiously, praying she didn't hit another body.

No such luck, her heel hit Miranda's arm and she fell, sprawling out on her back.

The man stepped over to her, switching his grip on his sword and lifting it high to finish her.

Thalia squeezed her eyes shut, but the blow never came.

"JASON, STOP!" A powerful voice rolled over the ship. Thalia peeked an eye open to see her attacker had frozen.

"Jason?" She whispered, her voice squeaky with terror.

"Drop the sword!" The voice ordered as Thalia heard boots hit the deck of her ship. She recognized the speaker as Piper, but didn't have much time to react to it before she screamed in surprise as the sword her brother was holding clattered to the deck next to her head.

"Take off the hood." Piper ordered. Thalia could see Jackson standing behind her, his first mate Reyna barking orders. One of the larger boys from the ship lashed hers and theirs together, then the crew spread out and began to check the bodies.

The black cloth fell away, exposing Jason's expressionless face. His eyes were cloudy but he stood like a soldier at attention.

Piper pulled a coil of rope from her belt and grabbed Jason's arms, tying them behind his back. Pulling her dagger from it's sheathe, she rammed the hilt into the back of his head. The son of Zeus fell without a sound and Frank ran forward to collect him.

"Cap'n, you want him in the brig?" The son of Ares called.

"Yes." Percy called. "Piper, get Thalia too."

Thalia scowled at his casual use of her name, but when Piper motioned for her to stand, she did so slowly. The girl still had her knife at the ready and Thalia was weaponless.

Piper deftly tied the daughter of Zeus up and shoved her into Sherman's arms. "Hold onto her."

Turning, she began to inspect the bodies on that side of the ship.

"Chase is alive!" Leo Valdez shouted. Reyna went to help him and soon they were supporting an unconscious, bloody daughter of Athena between them.

"Get her to the sick bay. Anyone else?" Percy called to the crew.

There was no reply for several seconds, then, "This kid's still breathing!" Gwen shouted.

Percy strode over and picked Will Solace up carefully.

"You gave the dead drachmas?" He asked the crew. They nodded.

"Good, let's get off this cursed thing and send them to the Underworld."

The crew filed off and cut the tethers. Percy let the ships drift apart, then nodded to Leo. His hands still bloody from trying to find pulses on the bodies, he shot a stream of fire at the red-tinted ship.

Thalia felt tears prick her eyes as she watched her childhood, her home, go down in flames.

"May Hades judge you fairly for all your deeds." Percy said solemnly, saluting the burning ship. Turning to his crew, he let them have a moment of silence before moving on.

"Put her in the brig." He ordered Sherman before turning to Frank. "Take this one to the sick bay, make sure you tie them up in some way and check them for weapons, then get to work. If we get Will up and moving he can help with Annabeth."

Frank took the son of Apollo in his arms and headed belowdeck. Percy watched Sherman drag Thalia downstairs, then sent Ethan after him to help watch the four prisoners.

The sound of clapping arose from behind him and he whirled, his sword half out of it's scabbard.

"I'll admit, that was more than I expected. I had hoped he'd finish off the whole crew before you showed up." A hooded man was balancing on one of the rails, leaning against a rope net that stretched into the rigging.

"Who are you?"

"A spited man who is getting his retribution." The man smiled. "And you have stopped me from it."

"And?" Percy raised an eyebrow.

"I will kill Thalia Grace. And since you've gotten in the way, I will kill you as well." The man said calmly.

"I beg to differ." A dagger sliced through the man's hood, not quite knocking it off. He hastily pulled it back over his face so his features were indistinguishable. He glared at Piper.

"Get the Hades off my ship and don't come back." Percy ordered. His crew clustered behind him, weapons at the ready.

"We will meet again, Captain Jackson." The hooded man spat the name like poison, then disappeared in a puff of bluish misty smoke.

[A/N well that's an extremely long chapter....okay in this version, using the mist is not an ability any demigod can learn. Only children of Hecate, the creator and user of the mist, can use it. It's also more powerful, able to control minds fully and make completely solid objects that can be left where they are for an indefinite amount of time]
