Third Person POV
On top of his weird dream, the next day didn't go so well for the young halfa. His friends barely spoke to him, aside from the occasional greeting or a mutter of a reply. Sam would continue to give him odd looks during their English class while working on their assignments with their partners. It was only at lunch did his two friends actually start to speak to him. Well, more like yell. "I'm telling you, she's no good." Sam said, sitting beside Danny at their regular table. She kept fiddling with a strange golden chain that was hidden by her T-shirt. Danny sighed as he continued to eat his sandwich, shooting his technogeek friend a look that practically screamed 'help me'.
Tucker shook his head, "I'm actually on Sam's side with this one Danny. You have to admit somethings not right about her. I mean, you've barely known her for more than a week and already you two are making out-" Tucker cut himself off, realizing what he had just let slip. Danny set his sandwich down on his tray, turning his attention fully to his friend.
"How did you know about that?" Tucker refused to make eye contact with his dark haired friend. Danny's eyes narrowed as he turned his gaze to Sam, who was frowning at the geek, "Sam?" The goth looked away from Tucker and locked eyes with the young halfa. The two engaged in what could look like a death stare match. Usually, Sam would win in this type of thing, but Danny wasn't going to back down today.
His eyes flashed green, a very dangerous sign. Sam sighed. "We talked to Jazz," was all the goth said in reply. Danny frowned and his expression quickly turned to one of anger.
He quickly stood up, "How many times do I have to say it?! There's nothing wrong with Scarlet! Why are you two trying to scare her away?" Danny realized the attention he was drawing, so he quietly sat back down, "I know you guys are just trying to protect me, but you have to trust me on this. Scarlet is a good person."
Sam frowned, "We all can see she's trouble Danny. Why can't you? You need to open your eyes. Scarlet Cane is a no good, lying, two-faced-"
"Danny?"
Sam was cut off by the newcomer's voice. The group turned to see a pale skinned girl with waist length orange hair and sad blue eyes.
Scarlet.
The girl held a tray of food in her hands and tears in her eyes. "Oh... hey Scarlet," Danny began as he stood up. Scarlet dropped the tray and it fell to the ground, spilling food all over the floor. The girl ran out of the cafeteria with her hands over her face. Danny watched her leave the cafeteria, then turned to glare at Sam, who didn't look the least bit sorry. She just sat there, eating her salad and fiddling with the hidden chain.
The goth felt the half ghost's eyes on her and she looked up, placing her fork on the table. "What?"
"You hurt Scarlet's feelings."
"So what?"
Danny's brow furrowed as he sat back down. Taking a deep breath, he calmly asked, "Will you please go apologize to her?"
Despite Sam really not wanting to, she didn't want to get any further on Danny's bad side. The teen could be quite scary when he wanted to. So, rolling her eyes, she stomached her pride and stormed out of the cafeteria. She began to mindlessly roam the halls, muttering to herself about how she didn't think she didn't do anything wrong, while the necklace Clockwork had given her bounced against her chest. She had done some research on the necklace, hoping to gain some answers from what she found. Apparently, the heart shaped gem was a ruby. Otherwise known as the 'Queen of Gems'. It was said that's it's value surpassed even that of a diamond. Now where else had she heard mention of a diamond? And, according to one of the websites she had searched, the ruby "Stirs the blood and stimulates the heart, encouraging one to enjoy being in the physical world." The more Sam thought about it, the more she felt like this necklace was the key to everything.
The goth paused in the middle of a hallway, pushing away those thoughts and focusing on finding the orange haired girl. "Now, if I were an evil drama queen, where would I hide?" Her question was answered by the faint sounds of someone sniffling, coming from the girl's bathroom. Rolling her eyes once more, Sam pushed open the door and stepped into the washroom.
The bathroom wasn't much to brag about (if one could even brag about a bathroom). The stalls to her right were a dull gray that matched the tiled floor. The walls were an ugly blue and two large stained sinks lined the wall to her left. There were some automatic hand dryers and paper towel dispensers located near the sinks. Along the wall with the sinks were three mirrors, all equally spaced. And in front of one of the mirrors, was Scarlet.
Her eyes were slightly red and puffy from crying and she was desperately trying to clean up the trails of mascara running down her cheeks with a paper towel. Sam cleared her throat, immediately catching the girl's attention. Once Scarlet caught sight of the dark haired girl, she frowned and turned back to the mirror. "Why are you here? Still have more insults to throw in my face?"
Sam bit her tongue, as to prevent an insult from flying past her purple lips. She said she would apologize and that's what she was going to do, no matter how much it physically pained her to do so. Sam sighed, "No, I actually came here to apologize." Scarlet looked at her, wiping away the last bits of mascara on her cheeks. She seemed to be waiting for the apology. Sam inwardly groaned, "So I'm sorry for saying all those mean things about you."
Scarlet's infamous grin instantly appeared on her face, "Aw, that's okay Sammy. I understand."
"Don't call me Sammy."
"You know what Sammy? I bet we're gonna be great friends!"
"I said don't call me Sammy."
"Aw, but Sammy sounds so cute doesn't it?"
"No." Sam said firmly.
Scarlet put on a playful frown, "You're no fun." The peppy girl began to walk over to Sam, when a slight sparkle caught her eye. Scarlet's happy grin was now replaced with a sly smirk as she locked eyes with the girl, "Hey Sam, c'mere for a sec." Sam frowned and was about to shake her head no, when a thought popped into her head. Danny had asked her to be nice to Scarlet, now was her chance to fix things with him. She walked over to the bright girl, who was now grinning from ear to ear.
Sam came to a stop just a few feet away from Scarlet, "So, what's up?" She asked.
Scarlet batted her eyelashes, "I just wanted to see how cute you were up close." Everything inside Sam seemed to scream at once. Her mind arguing with her will. This girl practically had a neon sign hanging over her head that said 'CREEP ALERT', yet Sam felt the need to stay with her. Scarlet approached Sam, twisting a strand of her orange hair around her finger. "Now I can see why he likes you so much," Scarlet whispered as she played with Sam's hair, "You're so adorable when you're annoyed."
That was the final straw. Sam willed herself to move, to scream, to kick, to do anything, yet she couldn't. Her thoughts were becoming clouded, becoming more and more consumed by thoughts regarding Scarlet. Her deep blue eyes mixing with Sam's own violet orbs, like a rippling ocean.
Scarlet lightly brushed her hand against Sam's cheek, leaning in close to the goth's ear. "Now I know what you've been hiding, and I know why he likes you instead of her." she whispered.
Who the hell was Scarlet talking about. She seemed to be making less and less sense as time went on. Sam was beginning to get scared. Her heart was pounding in her ears and her breathing was coming in quick short breaths. "No need to get all worked up Sammy. I'm not going to hurt you," Scarlet whispered, "I just need to... borrow something."
Sam felt herself calm slightly and her thoughts cleared. She felt something cold move against her neck which was soon taken away by a sharp pain to the back of her neck. "See? That wasn't so hard now was it?" Scarlet cooed. She brushed some bangs out of Sam's face, "Wouldn't want to hide those beautiful eyes now would we?"
Sam felt herself getting light headed, and she was soon falling forward. As she slipped in and out of consciousness, she heard Scarlet's voice echo around her, "It's alright sweet heart, you just sleep now. Everything's going to be just fine."
With that, Sam fell into the abyss of darkness. Scarlet grinned, kissing the top of Sam's head lightly.
"Sweet dreams my princess."
