Chapter 19: Recovery

A/N: Hey-o peoples, welcome back to Danny's war bunker

Danny: Hello

Me: Hopefully this will be enough protection from the angry mobs

Ghost Writer: What do you mean hopefully?

Me: *laughs nervously* Well, um. Hey why don't we get on with the chapter?

Danny: I have a bad feeling about this.

Fright Knight's POV

I wandered around my castle, conversing with the maid I had bumped into the other day. After Danny had left I searched for her and began to spend more and more time with her. I truly enjoyed her company. She certainly was easier to have a conversation with than Talia.

"So you were once Master Danny's enemy?" Nina asked. She was off duty today and let her black hair out of it's bun, revealing it to be shoulder length. Her green eyes sparkled and her blue skin was spotless. Aside from the little mole above her top lip. She wore her white blouse and a blue skirt.

I smiled at her, "Yes, and he once bested me in battle using my own sword."

Nina's eyes widened, "The Soul Shredder? And he was only a young child?"

I laughed, "Yes, when it occurred I was furious. Me, the great Fright Knight, defeated by a mere child? Preposterous."

Nina chuckled. "But in time I learned he was a worthy foe, and a good friend," I continued.

Nina hand brushed against my own, "I can see that."

From the corner of my eye I saw her look at me, "I remember when you served the Dark King Pariah. You were merciless and cruel. But I am now thinking that was not the real you."

Her hand intertwined with mine, "I am thinking, that this is the real you."

We stopped walking, "Kind, fair, reasonable. Pariah Dark used you as his weapon. You had to do his bidding or he would destroy you."

I turned to Nina, staring into her eyes, "And how did you come upon this conclusion?" I asked.

She shrugged and smiled, "I have been told I am an excellent judge of character."

I lowered my head, "I can never undo what I have done. Some still see me as the Fright Knight."

She gently grabbed my chin and lifted my head, "In time, they will see the real you as I do."

Our heads leaned together, preparing for a-

"KING PAVOR!", the castle screamed.

I jerked away from Nina, causing a hurt and embarrassed look to appear on her face, "I.... I am sorry my King, I thought that-"

"No Nina, it is not you. It's the castle," I quickly explained. Nina slightly relaxed at hearing that.

"What is wrong?" I asked the castle doing the best I could not to sound angry.

"The young Phantom has arrived. He is weak and needs to see you and the Time Master immediately!" the castle replied quickly.

My eyes widened, "Nina, come with me," I said as I grabbed her hand.

We flew through the castle, arriving at the entrance. I saw Danny being held up by two guardsmen. He looked very weak. I rushed to Danny's side with Nina close behind.

"Danny? What happened?" I asked.

"G-ghost...... Attacked..... Pendant..... Clockwork," he said quietly.

I knitted my brow together. Turning to Nina I told her, "Help Master Danny to his room. Tend to any injuries he has and make sure he is comfortable. I must contact the Time Master."

Nina nodded and began to lead the guardsmen away. I pulled out my sword and slashed the air, creating a portal. I stepped through and found myself just outside The Realm Outside of Time.

I quickly flew towards Clockwork's Tower. Not bothering to knock, I crashed through the doors and called out for him, "Clockwork!"

No answer.

I started searching his tower. Not in the main room. Not in his chamber. Not in his study. I dashed to the library and threw open the doors. I instantly spotted Clockwork, along with the Elder Spirit Nocturne, standing by the fireplace with a book on the table between them. The book was open had a small chest on top of it. I saw Clockwork holding a strange necklace in his hand.

Both Nocturne's and Clockwork's heads whipped in my direction. "Pavor? What is the meaning of this?" Clockwork asked, sounding slightly annoyed.

"It's Danny. He came to the castle weak and speaking of an attack. He mentioned you as well," I told the Master of Time.

Clockwork frowned, worry obvious on his face. Nocturne remained neutral. "We must hurry," Clockwork said floating towards me. He turned around, "Nocturne?"

The starry ghost shook his head, "I will remain here."

"Nocturne, it is time for you to put your past feelings aside. You are an Elder Spirit once more, you must move on from your petty grudge," Clockwork scolded.

Nocturne frowned and grumbled something under his breath as he joined us. "Good, now let us be off," Clockwork said, spinning his staff as the three of us were enveloped in a blue portal.

I AM THE MIGHTY LINE BREAK! FEAR ME!

We arrived in the castle's entrance hall. "I asked for him to be taken to his room," I said, but Clockwork was already floating away.

Nocturne and I followed after him. We rushed through the castle to Danny's room. Clockwork reached the door first and opened it. He flew in and I followed with Nocturne behind me. Nina was sitting on the bed beside Danny's sleeping form, pressing a wet towel on his head.

Her head whipped around when she heard the door open. A smile graced her beautiful face when she saw me. I rushed to her side, "How is he?" I asked.

"He seems to be running a fever and keeps muttering the same words over and over in his sleep. But other than that he appears unharmed," Nina said as she continued to wipe Danny's forehead.

"What is he saying?" Clockwork asked.

"He says many things. Mostly the words cloak, Clockwork, and pendant, but every now and then he'll say complete phrases. Sometimes in a language I can't understand," Nina responded, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.

Clockwork put a hand on his chin, "Nocturne, can you see inside his mind? See what he is thinking about?"

Nocturne was silent. Clockwork turned to the other Elder Spirit, "Nocturne, this is important. You must let bygones be bygones."

Nocturne sighed and approached the bed. He went to Danny's side and placed a starry hand on his forehead causing Danny to shiver. Nocturne closed his eyes in concentration.

"I see...." Nocturne began, "....red eyes. A cloaked ghost.......attacking. Pain...... so much pain I-" Nocturne suddenly cried out and collapsed onto the floor as Danny sat up quickly with a scream.

I knelt down to Nocturne while Nina grabbed Danny's shoulders, trying to get him to calm down.

I shook Nocturne's shoulder, urging him to rise. His eyes fluttered open and placed a hand on his head. Slowly, he stood up and found a chair to sit in, on the other side of the room.

Danny was lying down on his pillows once again while Nina patted his forehead with the wet towel. "Clockwork?" he whispered.

"I'm right here Danny," Clockwork said floating beside the bed, "What happened?"

Danny's eyes fluttered, "Sam, Tucker and I..... were out on patrol. Sam was attacked by a ghost so Tucker and I rushed to help her. I..... used my Ghostly Wail but somehow the ghost trapped me in a shield that also trapped the Wail. He knocked Sam and Tucker...... unconscious and he talked to me. He mentioned the..... pendant. After I made sure Tucker and Sam were ok, I brought them home and barely had enough energy..... to make it here," he managed to say.

"Who attacked you Danny?" Clockwork asked.

Danny's eyes focused on his mentor, "Steve."

Clockwork's eyes widened, "He found you?"

Danny nodded weakly, "He's the one working with Dan. This is all being run by him."

Clockwork frowned deeply, his eyes narrowing in anger. Clockwork reached into his cloak and pulled out a small necklace. It was a red stone in the shape of a heart on a golden chain. He placed the necklace on the bed and reached back inside his cloak, pulling out a folded piece of paper.

I placed a hand on Nina's shoulder, "Can you go find Talia?" I whispered to her. She nodded and stood up. She exited the room leaving the four of us alone.

I turned back to Danny, who was now holding the strange necklace. "Nocturne and I discovered another secret in the book," Clockwork said holding up the piece of paper. He handed it to me and I unfolded it. I read the letter aloud.

Once I was finished I glanced up at the young halfa. He clutched the necklace tightly in his hand. "What does it all mean?" he asked.

"We are not entirely sure," Clockwork replied.

"You've been saying that since this all started! You're supposed to be 'All-Knowing' Clockwork! How is it you can't find anything on this stupid prophecy !" Danny yelled.

My eyes widened and I even saw Nocturne stand up. Clockwork's eyes narrowed. Danny clapped a hand over his mouth, realizing what he said. "Clockwork I...... I'm sorry I didn't mean-"

"It's alright," Clockwork interrupted, "I understand your frustration. It is a very trying time for me as well. I believe we are all stressed about this. The Day of First Death is fast approaching and we have no information on what possibly is to come."

"When exactly is this 'Day of First Death?" I asked, "You never told us the exact date."

Clockwork waved his hand and an astral map appeared in front of him. After a moment of him looking over the map and muttering he said, "Less than two weeks from today."

I sighed, "I asked for an exact date Clockwork."

The Master of Time sent a glare my way, "Let's see, the exact date would be." More muttering, "The Sunday after this coming Sunday."

Danny gulped, "Today is Friday."

Clockwork nodded, "It is close approaching but we still have plenty of time to find the answers and prevent the prophecy from coming true."

There was a knock on the door. The door opened and Talia's head poked in. She spotted Danny and rushed to his side. "Danny are you ok?" she asked.

Danny nodded and Talia gently grabbed his hand. She sat on the other side of the bed beside him as Nina entered the room. I walked over to her and gently grasped her hand.

Clockwork had floated over to Nocturne and the two were silently discussing something. Talia had grabbed the wet towel and began stroking Danny's forehead with it.

Nina squeezed my hand reassuringly, but I couldn't help but worry about what was to become of the young halfa.
