Chapter 15: Nasty Burger and The Lab

A/N: And this makes 4 consecutive updates. Jeez, I have lost it. Well at least I hope you guys are enjoying all these updates :) Anyways, after this one I don't know if they'll be consecutive anymore, probably all over the place like usual. On the plus side I have a new writers room. It's guarded, human and ghost shielded, confetti cannons at the ready AND a 24 hour snack bar.

Ember: These snacks are really good

Kitty: Yeah we should come over more often

Danny: Hey pass me the popcorn would ya?

Johnny: And pass a couple sodas while you're at it

Sam: Grab them yourself lazy butt

Tucker: *has a mouthful of food*

Me: AW COME ON!!!! I honestly don't know why I try. Hope you all enjoy this next chapter

Ghost Writer: *pops head in through the doorway* Cool, snacks

Me: Ugh

Danny's POV

I kept seeing Scarlet throughout the day. She even had lunch at the table next to Sam, Tucker and me. And oddly, we had almost every class together. The bell had finally rung, signalling the end of school. I walked out of my class and stopped at my locker. I spun the combination into my lock and opened the door, swapping out books.

I closed the door and almost screamed when I saw Scarlet's face smiling face on the other side of it. "Uh, h-hi Scarlet. What are you doing here?" I asked as I shifted my bag onto my back.

"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out after school and work on our project for English," she said as she flashed me an even larger smile. How does this girl smile so much? She's like one of those creepy clowns that you see at the circus and then have nightmares about for weeks. I shuddered.

"Uh, I was actually going to hang out at the Nasty Burger after school today with-"

"The Nasty Burger? Sounds cool! Can I come?" she asked.

I rubbed the back of my neck. She was making it really hard to ditch her without hurting her feelings. "Look Scarlet I-" I paused as our eyes locked. I never really noticed how blue they were, almost like a endless ocean. "I..... I'd be glad if you came," I told her.

She let out a happy squeak and grabbed my hand, pulling me through the halls and out of the school. We reached the steps and I stopped, much to Scarlet's surprise. "We have to wait for Sam and Tucker," I told her.

She put on a pout, "They can meet us there. Come on, I'm still new in town and want to see the sights." Our eyes locked again. Maybe we could meet Sam and Tucker at Nasty Burger. They wouldn't mind if I showed the new girl around a bit. Maybe we could all- "Danny!" a voice shouted, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I pulled my hand out of Scarlet's grip and turned to see Sam and Tucker exiting the school. Sam noticed Scarlet and frowned. She walked over to me and gripped my arm. "What is she doing here?" she whispered in my ear, putting emphasis on the 'she'.

"She wanted to come along, I didn't know how to say no," I told her.

"Like this. No," she whispered back.

I sighed, "She's coming along. Maybe this way we'll figure out if she's up to something."

Sam grumbled but agreed and we walked over to Tucker, who had already begun flirting with Scarlet. "So my name's Tucker Foley. That's TF, for 'Too Fine'," he said to an obviously annoyed Scarlet.

Sam and I chuckled at our friends poor attempt at flirting. "We'd better get going, my curfew is still before 10 and I have a bunch of homework to do," I said, walking down the steps.

Scarlet instantly rushed to my side while Tucker walked beside her. Sam walked on my other side and I could sense the anger radiating off of her. And was that..... jealousy? No way. Sam jealous? Of Scarlet? Not possible. But still, if Sam didn't like her maybe there was something going on here.

THE ALMIGHTY LINE BREAK

Vlad's POV

I floated around my lab waiting for Cloak to return from his 'errand'. This partnership would not last much longer if my mysterious associate, who refused to even show his face, continued with these secrets.

"You should relax," a voice said from above my head.

I looked up to see the ghost that Cloak had sent to the castle to deliver the 'message', sitting on a support beam. His blood red eyes stared down at me. His white hair flamed and his cape hung lazily to the side. The yellow stone Cloak had given him for reasons unknown to me still rested around his neck.

I frowned up at him, "And what if I don't?"

The ghost shrugged, "You'll burn out hopefully."

I floated up to the ghost, "Who are you?" I asked.

He laughed, "I almost forgot how clueless you could be sometimes."

I raised an eyebrow, "Have we met before?" The ghost didn't look familiar, well maybe a little. Almost like he reminded me of someone. But I would think I would remember a ghost such as the one I was speaking to.

He closed his eyes and slouched against the beam, "Us? No. A different you yes.  But the you I knew is long gone."

I was now confused, and getting annoyed at his vagueness. "I am tired of riddles. Who are you?!" I demanded.

"Simmer down Froot Loop, you'll find out who I am soon enough," the ghost said, opening one eye to look at me.

My temper rose at the nickname. "Froot Loop?" I repeated. The my eyes widened, "No one calls me that except......" I trailed off, realization dawning on me. The white hair, the suit, the gestures, the nicknames, why he looked familiar. "You're...... you're-"

The ghost grinned and the stone around his neck began to glow. I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder and fell into darkness.

I thought about ending it here, I truly did. But that's cruel, even for me. So say hello to, THE SECOND ALMIGHTY LINE BREAK

Dan's POV

The cloaked ghost released Vlad's shoulder and he dropped to the ground. Mere seconds before he would have hit the ground, Vlad was caught by an invisible force and lowered gently onto the hard stone floor.

The cloaked figure looked up at me, their red eyes narrowing in anger. I merely scoffed. I thought I heard the old Froot Loop calling him Cloak as the figure never had said what his name was.

"That was reckless and you know it," Cloak scolded.

I crossed my arms, "Of course, why else would I have done it?"

Cloak sighed, "I'm going to have to make him forget all that."

I frowned, "Why? He's just gonna figure it out later."

"Then I'll make him forget again."

I sat up on the support beam and swung my legs over the side so I was directly facing Cloak, "But why?"

"Because he cannot learn who you are no matter what! To learn who and what you are could damage him. And I still need him."

Much to my own displeasure, I was silent.

Cloak floated closer until he was inches away from me. Before I could even react, his hand shot out of his cloak and grabbed the yellow stone around my neck. Bolts of electricity shot through me and I cried out in pain.

The pain continued for what felt like hours until it abruptly stopped. I panted and twitched, trying to catch my breath as the last bits of electricity faded. Cloak leaned in close to my ear, "You know what happens if I take this off. You will evaporate into mist along with your timeline. Part spirit or not, you can be easily removed," he whispered, "So I suggest, you do your best not to cross me."

I growled low in my throat, resisting the urge to tear the hood off his head and blast him into dust. Cloak released me and floated down to Vlad. "And don't even think about trying anything funny. With a snap of my fingers that stone can go 'poof'! And you will go with it."

I bared my fangs and curled my hands into fists, this feeling of helplessness, being weak at the hands of an enemy, I didn't like it. I was the powerful Dan Phantom. No one could tell me what to do.

"And don't think I don't know about your little 'visits' inside the young Phantom's head. You're lucky I still have use of you else I would have disposed of you a while ago," Cloak said.

My eyes blazed with fury. Cloak was about 10 seconds away from being on the receiving end of my Ghostly Wail.

Cloak laughed as he placed his hand on Vlad's forehead, "I can sense your anger Phantom. Your quick temper will be your downfall unless you learn to control it. I guess losing at the hands of your weaker self really put a dent in your pitiful pride."

That was it. I took in a deep breath and prepared to use my Ghostly Wail on Cloak. Before the first wave of sound could even exit my throat, Cloak charged at me and created a ball of energy. He threw it at me and it expanded. I was now trapped inside a large sphere, just as the first wail exited my throat. The sound bounced around the sphere, getting louder even though I had quickly stopped my scream.

I sank to my knees, clapping my hands over my ears as the wail grew in volume. I closed my eyes as my head pounded with screams. I felt liquid drip from my ears. Then it stopped. Everything went silent.

I opened my eyes and saw Cloak floating in front of the sphere, a smile barely visible on his shadowed face. He flicked his hand and the sphere disappeared, dropping me to the ground. I landed on the stone floor hard, my head making contact first causing my headache to worsen.

I pushed myself up onto my hands and knees, breathing heavily. I saw a small patch of green blood on the floor, no doubt mine. My hands had small spots of green blood on them as well, most likely from my ears. I curled them into fists as Cloak floated down and kneeled in front of me. I ground my teeth together and looked up at the ghost.

"Now will you listen?" he asked simply.

I looked down at the floor, my anger growing. But I wouldn't say a word. I wouldn't give him that satisfaction.

"That's what I thought," Cloak said as he floated over to Vlad's limp form.

My head continued to pound, screams echoing in my mind. Just you wait Cloak. I won't be the pawn for much longer.

Soon...... I'll be the King.
