"Evelyn!"
"Yes, sir?" She asked, glancing up from the papers she was organizing.
"Get me some coffee, please," her boss commanded. "My assistant's out today."
"Of course, sir." Evelyn stood up. "I'll be right back."
"Thank you."
As Evelyn walked in the direction of the coffee machine, she racked her brain for the last time she saw her boss' assistant, Nora Backer, fetch him a steaming cup.
Two sugars and cream, she recalled.

Evelyn rubbed her eyes. Exhausted, she turned the ignition and smiled when the car started.
"Praise the Lord," she murmured.

"Hi Mum," Lydia called.
"Hey Lyd," Evelyn said, kicking her shoes off by the door and walking down the hall. "How was school?"
"Fine," Olivia murmured as Evelyn entered the kitchen and pulled a container out of the fridge.
"Is your homework done?" She asked, scraping the buttered pasta onto a plate.
"Yes," the girls said in unison.
"Thank you." Evelyn put the bowl in the microwave. "What about Drew?"
"He did his too," Lydia said, scrolling through her phone.
"Awesome." Evelyn took her pasta out of the microwave, grabbing a fork as she sat down with a sigh.
"Long day?" Olivia asked.
Evelyn rubbed her temples. "The boss' assistant was out sick today."
"Ah," she murmured, unlocking her phone as she placed her plate and glass in the dishwasher. "See you in the morning."
"Good night, Liv," Evelyn said, taking a bite of pasta. "Lyd, you should get to bed too."
"Okay, mum," she said, walking towards the stairs. "Good night."
"Night."
Evelyn finished her meal and walk up to her room.
"I'll take the check in the morning, I swear," she whispered to herself as she shut off the lights.
