SHATTERED HOPE

I heard from a little bird of things sour to swallow:
she has been engaged by none other than the man
I once saw her embracing.
And now, what has become of me?
If not hope shattered to dust and resolve gone to waste?

At last, I'm a failure.
Never won at anything in life.
For I failed at success,
and I've now failed at love.
