Despite the missing note drama, Jungkook pushes ahead, writing another note while Taehyung is in the shower. He remembers Taehyung's smug face when Jungkook didn't receive one earlier, and he has to do something to change that.
Writing mid-sentence, the door to Jungkook's room opens, startling Jungkook. He quickly hides the note in his top drawer, closing it with a loud bang. He turns to see Taehyung—hair still damp from the shower, but thankfully, he's clothed this time.
"What are you doing?" Taehyung asks, his voice sounding almost demanding.
"Nothing, really."
"Doesn't seem like nothing to me," Taehyung says, eyes darting around the room.
"Anyway." Jungkook changes the topic. "I'll set up the game."
He cautiously stands to turn on the TV and the Switch, grabbing two GameCube controllers because you're a noob if you play Smash with anything else.
Taehyung claims the beanbag, Jungkook doesn't complain this time. It stops Taehyung from pressing on with any of his suspicions. Instead, Jungkook sits down on the ground next to Taehyung, handing him one of the controllers.
Jungkook pictures an alternative reality, one where Taehyung dashed to the draw after Jungkook stood up. They'd fight over it, Jungkook guarding the drawer like his life depended on it. He wouldn't be able to budge; he would sleep there in front of the drawer all night, thinking of ways to lock it or empty it of all its contents before Taehyung could find out.
He knows Taehyung, though. Taehyung isn't usually a curious person; he's more of a live-in-the-present and go-with-the-flow sort of guy; however, Jungkook has seen a shift in personality after Jungkook started receiving the notes. Perhaps it's a false alarm; Taehyung didn't push any further even after Jungkook slammed the drawer shut like there's totally nothing to hide. Or maybe Taehyung is just respecting Jungkook's privacy—which is a first.
"You should invite Soobin over sometime," Taehyung suggests. "I wonder if he's any good at Smash."
Jungkook nods, agreeing. "I think mum would love him."

Later, at the dinner table, Jungkook's father took much joy in exposing Jungkook. "I was told you're popular with the ladies at school?" Mr Jeon says to Taehyung, a smug grin displaying proudly on his face.
"U-Uhm, I guess so?" Taehyung replies, his cheeks turning red.
"Dad!"
"What? Maybe he can teach you a thing or two," Mr Jeon says.
"He's got no time for girls. He needs to focus on his studies," Mrs Jeon says. His mother has always been an advocate for education. He remembers being banned from seeing Taehyung for a whole week because he got a D on his report card. A D for P.E. Who cares about physical education?!
Taehyung nods. "That's right. Jungkook doesn't need a girlfriend."
"See? You're such a good example for our Jungkook," Mrs Jeon says.
Jungkook rolls his eyes. "Even if I wanted a girlfriend, no one would want me as a boyfriend." It's true. He's gone as far as sending himself love notes. How sad can his life be? Jungkook is sad. Life is sad.
"That's not true!" Taehyung interrupts Jungkook's thoughts. "Jungkook has been getting love notes lately from a secret admirer."
Jungkook nudges Taehyung in protest. "Don't tell them that!" He was literally just thinking to himself about how sad it was that he was sending love notes to himself. He doesn't want to be humiliated in front of his parents. Leave the notes at school, please.
"Really?" That's interesting," Mr Jeon says.
Mrs Jeon sighs, her cheeks turning rosy. "I remember when I used to get love notes in high school."
"Jungkook probably wrote them himself," his dad says, chuckling.
Jungkook's cheeks match that of his mother's. He looks to Taehyung to see his reaction, but his face is unchanged.
"Hey, have faith in our son. He's a handsome, young boy," Mrs Jeon says.
"He needs to grow up and be a man first. He won't be getting any action acting like a teenage girl," Mr Jeon says. "And stop playing those darned video games."
Jungkook sighs. "I know. I will go blind," he says sarcastically. "And I do not act like a teenage girl, thank you very much."
Taehyung chuckles before whispering in Jungkook's ear, "It's always entertaining eating with your family."
"At least someone is entertained," Jungkook replies, looking down his cutlery. He would much rather be spending time in Taehyung's house knowing that his mother isn't home. There he won't have to deal with constant embarrassment.
💌
The following day, Jungkook wakes up with a severe case of morning wood. Lovely. If only his dreams weren't filled with unholy thoughts about a certain someone. He palms his cock but stops, thinking that Taehyung could walk into his bedroom at any moment. Solving that problem, he heads to the shower, hoping that no one will see the obvious tent in his shorts.
Under the water, he starts to stroke his arousal, suppressing his moans. It shouldn't feel this good, stroking one out to the thought of his best friend. He wishes it didn't. The immense guilt he feels after climaxing is a pill he unwillingly swallows because what he feels right now is too good to stop.
The door opens and Jungkook almost shrieks, turning his body to the wall. He prays that the water is hot enough to fog up the shower glass.
"Oops! Sorry, Jungkook," Taehyung says but continues to walk in.
"What the fuck? Get out!"
"Hey, we are both men here. I've seen you naked before—many times at that," Taehyung says. "Besides, you left the door unlocked. Remember? It's basically inviting me to come in."
Of course he forgot to fucking lock the door. Stupid smug bitch. If he didn't have a raging boner right now, Jungkook would have shoved Taehyung out of the bathroom already.
He hears Taehyung brush his teeth, irritating Jungkook further. "Is there such a thing as personal space with you?" Jungkook asks.
"No." Taehyung spits the toothpaste out, rinsing his mouth with water before saying, "Nice arse, by the way."
The door closes, and Jungkook is left feeling embarrassed, wanting to drown.
💌
At school, homeroom is just another mundane task to get through before Jungkook starts contemplating his escape from social suicide. In his hand is the note Soobin was supposed to deliver yesterday. He has no clue how it's here now, in his homeroom. He rereads the note; Are you a designer? I think you are my style.
Perhaps Soobin found the note and put it here?
"Turkish delight?" Taehyung offers, hovering the box of sweets in front of Jungkook.
"Where did you get that?"
"It was left on my desk," Taehyung says.
"If you were anyone of significant importance, it would be far too easy to poison you," Jungkook says.
Taehyung shrugs, plopping one in his mouth. "They're good."
Jungkook turns back to the note in his hand. "No thanks."
Eyes back on the note, Jungkook scrunches it up, putting it in his pocket. If he pretends it never happened, maybe everything will undo itself. Maybe Jungkook can live a normal life. Maybe just maybe, he can be spared from the impending humiliation.
"Was that a note?" Taehyung asks.
"No. It's my to-do list."
Taehyung leans his elbow onto the desk, head resting on his hand, eyes glancing down at Jungkook's pocket. If Taehyung had to seduce Jungkook with one look, it would probably be this one. Unfortunately for Jungkook, Taehyung isn't glancing down at his nether region out of attraction. He's on to him. He must know about the notes.
"So, what's on Jungkook's to-do list today?" Taehyung asks, using his tongue to gloss over his lips.
You can do me, or I can do you, Jungkook almost says. "Stuff." A much better response. His shower thoughts are now causing problems outside of the shower. Not good.
"What stuff?"
Or maybe he's just appreciating Taehyung's looks to distract himself from the monumental mess that will undoubtedly change Jungkook's life trajectory forever. Conveniently, Taehyung just happens to be good looking enough to serve as a decent distraction. Other people do it, right? Like procrastiwanking. You know, when you wank to distract yourself from your problems. Doing it with your mind should do the same trick.
This has created new problems, though. Saucy thoughts about Taehyung aren't usually this frequent. It must mean that Jungkook is really, really fucked, and not even in a good way. Never in a good way—he's a virgin for Christ's sake!
"Like shower," Jungkook finally replies.
Taehyung raises a brow. "Didn't you have one this morning?"
"I-I did. Yes. I did have one this morning. That's why I got rid of my to-do list. Checked off showering... ha ha."
The roll call is called and a bell signals for their first classes to commence; Jungkook and Taehyung go their separate ways.
Before he reaches his first class, someone stops him.
Naeun.
"Good morning, Jungkook," she says, flicking her hair behind her. "Can we have a word?"
What on earth does Naeun—their school's token popular girl—want with him?
"Uh, sure?"
"I saw one of your friends lurking around your desk yesterday. He happened to have dropped a pretty note which had your name written quite lovely on it. I read the note, of course." She puts a hand on her hip before continuing. "The first person to show interest in you. How cute."
"Mind your own business, Naeun." It was her. She put the note on his desk this morning. Out of everyone, it just had to be Naeun. For fuck's sake.
"I wouldn't be so hostile if I were you," she says, looking bored. "I can tell everyone about your dirty little secret."
Jungkook furrows his brows, waiting to hear what she has come up with.
"I have two theories," she says. "The first being that Soobin likes you."
Jungkook nods cautiously. "And the second?"
A smug smile crosses Naeun's face. "You made him put the note there."
Jungkook's ears start to burn. This is the second time someone has guessed what is actually going on, but surely she knows nothing. All he has to do is act calm. "Why would I do that?"
Naeun shrugs. "I don't know, Jungkook. You tell me."
Jungkook shakes his head, glancing down at the time on his lock screen. "I have to get to class."
"I need a favour," Naeun asks.
"Why should I listen to you?"
"Well you see, whether or not it's true, I can make the entire school believe you are writing notes to yourself and who will they believe? Me, or you?"
"You wouldn't."
"Oh but I would. So hear me out."
Jungkook scoffs but listens nevertheless.
"I need you to set up a date for me," she says.
Jungkook frowns. "A date?"
Naeun nods. "Yes, a date. Specifically one with Taehyung."
"I can't do that."
There is no way Jungkook can persuade Taehyung into going on a date. Taehyung has no interest in things like that; he actively denounces the idea of girlfriends and dating.
"Well, looks like you'll have to figure it out. Good luck." Naeun turns on her heels, flicking her hair back before walking off.
Fucking great. Just what he needs.
