Part 23 - False Rescue

Skip made his way out to the garden that night, looking for the ribbon with Stephanie's ring. Midas may have dropped it, so it was worth a try. But his search was cut off when he was suddenly picked up roughly. "Why, it's our missing feline!" He turned Skip around, seeing the sneering face of Preminger. Skip hissed.

"And with an attitude! I never liked cats." He leaned in, when Midas barked. Preminger looked down, seeing his dog holding a ribbon in his mouth, a ring attached to it. "What's this? Here boy."

Midas dropped it into his master's hand, prompting Preminger to pat him on the head. He pulled the roll of paper out of the ring and read it aloud. "Madam Carp's dress shop." He read. He looked down at Midas, before glancing at Skip. "This may be the answer to our mystery."

Meanwhile, Stephanie was still helping the other seamstress with her, (and Christina's) work. Outside, Herve was still waiting for her to come out, when he saw another horse, this one black, pull up to the shop. Preminger was upon it. He climbed off and searched the side of the building for a door.

Herve noticed that the saddle bag was moving. Using his teeth, he flipped it open, and Skip poked his head out. "Thank you, Herve." Noticing Preminger about to step into the shop, Skip gasped and jumped out, sneaking behind him.

Preminger started rattling the knob, trying to get it open. Inside, the seamstress and Stephanie heard the rattling. The seamstress was nervous, and ran upstairs. Stephanie was cautiously excited. "Hey! In here!" She shouted.

Preminger gasped. It was her. Looking around, he picked up a loose cobblestone and raised it to the handle, breaking the door open. He opened it and it swung inward. Skip followed him in and jumped onto the table beside Stephanie.

"Preminger! You found my ring!" Skip meowed. "Good boy."

"Princess..." Preminger started, smirking sinisterly. Skip hissed.

"Skip, what's gotten into you?" Stephanie asked, turning to him. Being distracted, she barley even noticed Preminger coming up to her. She only noticed him beside her when she felt him grab her upper arm tightly.

"Come quickly, Princess. You can tell me everything on the way to the castle." Preminger said quickly, practically dragging her out. Stephanie pulled back slightly, thinking of her new friend in the seamstress. She was upstairs; not knowing anything about this.

"But first let me-"

Preminger pulled her back, more aggressively this time. "No, no, no, no time." And he pulled her out faster this time. Stephanie, technically going along with him willingly, still hesitated to call out for Skip. "Skip! Here, boy!"

Preminger and Stephanie sat in the front of the wagon that Herve was attached to. Skip, still hissing, jumped into the back of the wagon, as they rode off.
