Part 1 - Life Of A Princess

*For fans of the original movie, no, I will not be copying the songs word for word, but I will get the same point across. Plus, I'm adding a few extra scenes. The character development in the songs is being replaced by extra scenes. EDIT: Screw it, I'm linking the songs. I love these WAAAAY too much.*

Stephanie sighed, fiddling with her ring. It was a pretty thing, a thin gold band, with a pink gemstone. Her mother had given it to her at birth, knowing that someday she would grow to wear it. Once she was 6, her mother trusted her with it, and officially gave it to her. From that day forth, she never took it off.

"Ouch!" She suddenly jolted, looking down.

"Sorry, ma'am." Said the palace seamstress, a thin young woman with black hair and caramel skin.

"It-it's fine." She said. And she went back to fiddling with her ring.

"Um... your Highness?" Stephanie looked down at the woman again. "I... I need you to remain still while I work on the arms."

"Oh, of course." Stephanie nodded and dropped her arms to her side, still fiddling with the ring, only with her fingers on that same hand that time. She tried her best to stay still as the woman sewed the pale pink frills onto the dress's arms. The woman stepped back, looking at the dress.

"I think it's nearly ready, your Highness." The woman said, beaming. "It looks wonderful on you too!" She grinned.

Stephanie looked down at herself, standing in her soon-to-be wedding gown. It was a sort of creamy white dress, decorated with white and pink lace, with gold embellishments. She looked beautiful. She smiled, then tightened up in excitement. From the seamstress's perspective, it appeared as though she was disgusted by it.

"Oh! What's wrong?! Is it too pale? Is the pink not right? I can fix it!" She said frantically.

"Oh, no, no no!" Stephanie said, grinning. "I just..." She bit her lip, smiling. She leaned in close to the surprised seamstress. "Promise not to tell anyone?" The seamstress nodded, confused.

Stephanie stepped off the pedestal, stepping into her pale pink shoes. She looked around, making sure that the seamstress was the only one around, closed her eyes, and started dancing. The seamstress's jaw hit the floor and her eyes went wide, as she watched the princess, the soon-to-be ruler of a kingdom, dance and giggle around the room.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Stephanie stopped dead in her tracks. She ran back over to the pedestal, and stood up straight. The seamstress raised an eyebrow. Stephanie smiled. "What, can't a princess dance in her own wedding gown?" She said quietly. "Come in!" She called out.

The heavy wooden door opened slightly, revealing the Royal Scheduler, standing in all his possible insanity. "Ah! Princess." He said, going up to her. "Um, are we almost done here?" He asked the seamstress.

"I just need to add a few more embellishments. Then again, I don't think I need the model for that." She said. "But it would be helpful. We don't want a gold heart ending up in her armpit."

He stroked his chin in thought, a trait that Stephanie had always found rather amusing, but had never told him. "Alright, be we have twenty, maximum, twenty-two minutes for your royal fitting, and then, it's move, move, move, to your speech at the historical society." He took a closer look at the scroll, letting the bottom end drop and roll halfway across the floor. "After that, we have to rush, and I mean rush, to the Horticultural Society Tea. Then there's your math lessons, your geography lessons, your science lessons..."

Noticing that he was totally absorbed in the scheduled, Stephanie turned to the seamstress and put a finger to her lips, smiling. She stepped off the pedestal, making sure to grab her shoes, and quietly went off in a different direction.

She did have things to get ready for, and ironically, if she sat around listening to the things she had to do, she would never get them done. But if it made the Royal Scheduler feel important, she humored him. Not today though.

Stephanie wandered through the empty halls, passing the occasional servant, until she reached her room. As soon as the door was shut, she collapsed on the bed, hoping to lie down for just a second, but as soon as she did, her cat jumped up on her chest. She laughed.

"Skip!" *Yes, Serafina is a boy in this story* She laughed, sitting back up. She gave him a quick pet before setting him down next to her. Her smile faded, as she rested her head on her hands. Skip gave a concerned meow.

Stephanie forced a soft chuckle. She sighed. "Oh, sorry, Skip. I know, I'm not usually like this, but..." She got up and went onto the balcony, overlooking the garden, Skip followed her out. "I'm just a little... well, depressed." She snapped back into action, pounding her fist on the balcony railing. "But I can't be! I have a duty to fulfill! In marrying the king, I save my kingdom!" Even though she knew Skip couldn't really understand, she still turned to him. "Duty means doing the things your heart may well regret." Her posture faded, and her frown came back.

She looked down into the garden, spying her tutor, Matthew. He was examining the flowers, watching how they grow. He had planted them a while back, and spent many months carefully examining how they grow. He was so good with plants. She sighed. "Really, really, really regret."

Skip meowed.
