The Opening Ceremony
Yup, I won't have time to make the cover I promised. If you have a better idea for a cover (or willing to draw my original idea) let me know!
Anyways, as you can see, I love the modern aesthetic of Sword and Shield, with Pokemon Battles being like a sport rather than a chosen one god type of thing. So I'll be basing my book on that.
Also, since this will be a semi episodic book, chapters may be shorter than usual!
Anyways, onto the story!
Third POV
"So your phone is a Pokemon?" Lloyd asked, slightly disturbed.
"They're the new Rotom Phones! It's just a machine, but it works with the help of Rotom!" Jay said. He reached into his backpack and pulled out an identical one, only it was green compared to his blue one. "Here you go, I thought you'd need one," he handed it to him.
"Woah..."
"Yup! It's like any other phone, but it's also a Pokedex!"
He didn't get to thank him before the Corviknight landed, the door automatically opening in the carriage. They got out and saw the huge city in front of them. The Corviknight flew to the side along with the other taxis, while Eevee and Wisp jumped into their arms just in time.
In front of them was a huge stadium, although they couldn't see it well through the crowds of people at the entrance. Next to the huge, oval-shaped stadium were a Pokemon center and another tall building. Upon examining it, he recognized it as that 5-star hotel his father would always stay in.
Jay looked at him and grinned. "Come on, let's go inside!"
The door opened automatically and they both went inside. Every single challenger was either waiting inline or generally hanging out in the room. When their turn finally came, they were welcomed by a android. It was weird that ninja-looking robots with black skin, red eyes and white costumes were the main employees of the League. In the end, everyone just called them nindroids.
"Register your names," they said in a bold tone.
"Lloyd Garmadon."
"Middle name?"
Lloyd blushed, sighing. "Montgomery." Jay burst out laughing in the corner. Even Eevee and Wisp started laughing with him.
"Trainer ID?" The nindroid asked again. Lloyd just looked at him confused.
Jay popped in after calming down. "It's the number they'll show on your uniform. It's like your challenger number," he said, petting Wisp.
"Okay then..." He said. "Five."
The nindroid typed something into his computer, then looked back at them and nodded. "He pulled something out of his desk. "Here is your challenger uniform and League Card. The ceremony will begin in a few minutes." And with that, they left.
"We both have front row seats, so go change and meet me at the stadium!" Jay said. With Wisp still barking in his arms, Eevee jumped out of Lloyd's and into Jay's backpack. He gave his Eevee a small wave before he went to the small changing rooms in the back.
In the entirely white room, there were treadmills, punching bags, and even yoga mats. He sat on one of the benches and put on his costume, one by one. His white shirt has the symbol of the League on the front (a golden dragon with purple mist around it), while his name was written on the back, along with the number five. In his white shorts' pocket was his League Card. It was a fairly recent picture of him, smiling with crossed arms in front of a green and gold background. He didn't know how they got the picture, but he didn't want to either. He put on his white shoes and black, knee-length socks, quickly heading out to the main room.
Everyone was gone. He rushed to the stadium. Everyone was already on their seats, so he rushed to find Jay. Luckily, he found him rather quickly. He was sitting in the front row with Wisp in his arms, while Eevee was sitting next to him in another seat.
"Hey!" He waved at Lloyd, patting the seat next to him.
He nodded and sat down, Eevee resting on his lap as he watched the empty field. "So, what now?"
"Well-" He didn't get to finish before the lights all closed, with only a single one pointing at the center of the stadium.
Four people walked out of the door. Soon, they stood at the center of the stadium.
Two of them were their fathers. Garmadon and Cliff Gordon; The Champion and Founder of the Pokemon League. The other two, meanwhile, were different. One was Cyrus Borg, the biggest sponsor of the Pokemon League and the very reason all the employees are nindroids. Speaking of them, his assistant, a tall, silver-haired and green-eyed female nindroid that pushed Cyrus in his wheelchair.
He didn't even hear the opening speech, and before he knew it, it was over. He was too deep in his thoughts. Jay was the one to bring him back to reality, shaking his arm violently, while Wisp was trying not to fall off his lap.
"Oh! Here she comes!" He said a little too happily with hearts in his eyes.
"And now, to introduce our fellow Gym Leaders," Cliff said and the crowd cheered. The four stepped aside as nine other figures entered through the door, waving at the crowd around them. The crowd went wild.
Cliff continued. "Violet, the Dark-type mistress," the punk-dressed girl posed for the crowd, cheering a little too loudly. From her long black hair that was tied in a strange ponytail, to her purple face tattoos and almost white skin, her look almost terrified him.
"Morro, the Ghost-type master." Now, if Violet was scary, Morro was terrifying. From the weird green makeup to his shoulder-length raven hair with that signature green stripe, he looked like a ghost himself. Even his clothes were ripped.
"Pythor, the Poison-type Serpentine." His name really did do him justice. He was a literal humanoid, purple and black snake. Rumour has it he tried to fuse with an Arbok, but miserably failed and transformed into this monster-looking creature.
"Cole, the Rock-type Brawler." That would be Jay's best friend. It was a wonder he wasn't a Fighting-type specialist. You could tell extremely buff, even while wearing an oversized black hoodie and matching black sweatpants.
"Chen, the Fairy-type Cultist." This just kept getting weirder and weirder. Even if his outfit resembled Pythor's, especially with the snake-like hat, they were both sworn enemies. It was a wonder how he even became a Fairy-type Gym Leader.
"Nadakhan, the mightiest Psychic-type Leader of the seven seas." This guy was a straight-up pirate, from the hook he wore to the ripped jacket and his ponytail, which was identical to Violet's.
"Finally, Kai and Nya, the famous Steam-Duo." I guess Nya was the girl Jay was talking about, seeing as he was literally drooling over her with a goofy smile. She and her brother didn't look anything alike; She had Raven hair and brown eyes, while he had brown, spiky hair, and green ones. She was a Water-type specialist, he was a Fire-type one. Nya was waving at the crowd, while Kai took selfies with his red Rotom phone.
The Gym Leaders all stood at the center as Garmadon stood in front of them.
"We hope for the best of luck to all participants!" Cliff said and the crowd cheered for a final time. "The Gym Challenge has now begun!"
"Feel free to pass by our Champion Gift Shop!" Cyrus grabbed the microphone and spoke, as the crowd laughed.
Lloyd couldn't help but chuckle too, eyeing his father.
"We're going to Ignacia first, right?" Jay whispered in his ear with that same goofy smile.
Lloyd smirked. "Sure," he sighed.
Alright, I had a VERY hard time deciding the Gym Leaders here. For example, should I put Morro or Seliel for the Ghost type? But this is the best I could come up with; the Ninjago Villains (well, most of them) and a few of the main Ninjas. I know this would be a VERY weird type combination for a normal Pokemon Game, but these types suit Ninjago pretty well. So yeah!
C ya!
