Rivals
Alright, I finally decided on a name for Eevee. I decided that @MasterofCupcakes 's suggestion was best suited, mainly because the other names suggested I had already thought of. But again, thanks to everyone who made a suggestion and for waiting for me to update! The cover should be coming soon!
Onto the story!
Third POV
The next morning had come, and after checking out of their hotel, they were quick to head out and into the city.
For such a large city, the streets were quite tight and empty, mainly because everyone was outside the stadium shopping in the main plaza. While Lloyd focused on the Pokemarts, buying potions and Pokeballs for later, Jay wandered around the various stands, buying every accessory possible. And when they crossed paths again, Jay was holding a small green bandana, the other blue one wrapped around Wisp's neck.
"I see you went on a shopping spree," Lloyd smirked and Jay awkwardly laughed. He noticed Wisp's bandana had her name sewn onto the side in cursive. Once he took his, he managed to read the name; Candy.
"Seriously? Candy?"
"Well, you spent half an hour talking about candy on our way here..." He said. "Do you have anything better?"
He hesitated before answering. "No..."
"See?" He said with a smirk. "Come on, let's go back to our taxi, we've gotta get to Ignacia!" He grabbed his hand and ran, with their Pokemon running behind.
They went to Cornviknight, Jay rushing a little too much to get in. They flew up, and the blabber started.
"I've never really been to Ignacia but the stadium is on this really cool hill," Jay started. "Oh, and there's a lake where the Gym Leaders always train in-well, mainly Nya and you should see how much she can hold her breath, it's amazing!"
Lloyd put a finger over his mouth. "We're not going there to find your Perfect Match, bud. We'll just do the challenge and leave."
"But we can speak to the Gym Leaders, right? Get some training advice?"
He couldn't help but chuckle. "Sure."
He laughed even more seeing both Wisp and Candy lowering their ears in annoyance. This was going to be a long ride...
When they eventually arrived, Jay's description wasn't far from the truth. Although the town was rather small, the large stadium stood at the top of the hill, next to a small fountain-like lake. Outside the gym was a sign which was too far to read, and another nindroid reading said sign.
They landed right outside the stadium. Jay was too focused on drooling over the posters depicting the Gym Leaders, well, mainly the Water-Type Master. But Lloyd spoke to the nindroid instead.
"Hey, we're here for the Gym Challenge," he went to take his trainer card out but was interrupted.
"This Gym no longer counts in the challenge," he said and showed them the sign. "The Gym will be closing today, don't bother entering."
"What, why?!" Jay exclaimed.
"Cliff Gordon has decided that having eight Gyms increases the difficulty level to an unnecessary degree."
"Well, he'll still be battling them!" He grabbed Lloyd's shoulders and showed him off, Wisp and Candy barking in agreement.
"This Gym only works in the double-battle format. You will need to enter too," the nindroid said with a sigh. "If you'll excuse me, I'll have to inform the rest of the citizens."
And with that, he left.
"Come on, it's worth the extra credit!" Jay pleaded.
"Are they even going to be in there?"
"Well, we won't know unless we try!" He grabbed his arm yet again and dragged him inside.
His backpack fell off, and almost everything in it was scattered on the ground.
He hurried back to pick everything up with Candy, finding a Pokeball. It's the Pokemon his uncle had given him. He hadn't even taken it out of his Pokeball yet.
"Guess I'll save you for later." There was a small symbol on the bottom of the Pokeball, particularly one of a leaf. "Must be a grass type..."
He saw Jay had already gone inside, so he of course followed. Once they entered, they were met by two doors; a blue one and a red one, obviously representing the two types.
"See you on the other side!" Jay ran with Wisp through the blue door.
He looked down at his Pokeball. "Wait!" It was too late. "I'm weak against fire types..." He sighed and let Candy jump onto his arms.
Heading inside the red door, he was met with... an empty hallway. There were props and even abandoned Pokeballs on the floor. It seemed that the challenge room had already been taken down. Well, at least luck was on his side.
He walked with Candy on his shoulder till the very end, and once he got through the exit, he saw Jay. He was staring at the two Gym Leaders talking, until they finally noticed them.
Their faces immediately lit up. Nya approached Lloyd with a smile. "The Gym is closing today, you didn't need to come."
"Unless you want an autograph, that is," Kai winked and Nya smacked his arm.
"Can we battle you?" Jay popped in with a grin.
Their expressions immediately changed, both glaring at him, with Nya still smiling.
"Oh, of course, you would be able to. But won't that be too difficult for you?" She said ironically in a sweet voice, taking more steps towards him.
Jay took a few steps back with a blush. "Okay, so if you let us battle you, will you come with us on the Gym Challenge?"
"Why would we do that?" Kai said.
"Well, if he becomes Champion and I get to my dad, we can convince him to open your Gym again."
The siblings looked at each other with a smirk.
"Please?" He picked up Wisp and shoved her in their faces.
They both sighed with a laugh. "Fine," they said in unison. "But we're doing it for him," they gestured at Lloyd and Jay sighed in defeat.
They each took a few steps back in the large, empty room, taking out two Pokeballs each. They threw them all in unison, and four Pokemon came out. Weird thing is, one of their respective Pokemon was of their sibling's type.
Kai had Pyroar, a large, dark, Fire-Type leonine Pokemon with a large red mane. His Water-Type though was a Sharpedo, the torpedo-shaped shark Pokemon. Its sharp teeth and dark blue scales were enough to terrify them, along with its glowing red eyes.
Nya's Pokemon meanwhile, were a lot more elegant. Of course, there was her famous Milotic, an aquatic, serpentine Pokémon. Its cream-colored body and red eyes, which had long, pinkish antennae above them were weirdly pretty. Even the blue, black and pink patterns on its body looked like a beautiful mosaic. Meanwhile, her Ninetales, a large, cream colored, nine-tailed fox was equally as cute and terrifying at the same time with its slanted red eyes.
"Pick and choose," Nya said.
They looked at each other and gulped. All their Pokemon were too over-levelled for them to defeat. Lloyd took one last chance and took out the Pokeball. He threw it on the ground, and out came a Snivy, a bipedal, reptilian Pokemon. It was mostly cream and green-colored, with leaves as a tail and golden markings around its eyes. He looked at Lloyd happily but he didn't have the same response.
The siblings looked at their faces, then at each other. They burst out laughing.
"What's so funny?" Jay said.
"Did you really think we'd let you battle us with a level five Snivy?" Kai said between laughter.
"We'll come with you," Nya said. "But you'll be our rivals till you beat us."
"We'll help you train, basically," Kai said.
They let out a sigh of relief. "Deal," Lloyd said with a smile.
"We'll meet you outside," Nya said.
"Wait!" Jay made her turn around. "I was wondering, maybe you could show me how to handle Water-Types?" He said with a sheepish smile, his hands fidgeting.
Nya looked back at her Pokemon, which immediately ran to her side looking at Jay.
"Sure," she said with a smirk.
Jay exchanged a thumbs up with Lloyd, who only shook his head and sighed. This was going to get a lot more complicated.
C ya!
