Ch.37

3rd POV.

It was the next morning, and the 1/2 crew were nearing Zou. They would probably get there around noon that same day if they continued at their current speed.

Even though Sanji was determined to watch over Shinsa the whole night, he couldn't stop himself from nodding off a couple of hours before sunrise.

Meanwhile, right before the sun started to go up, Shinsa's eternal clock went off and she began to stir awake.

She released a soft groan and sat up, holding her head in pain.

'What the hell...?' She thought to herself not knowing why her head hurt so bad. She couldn't remember much from the moment she took a nap yesterday afternoon.

A nauseating smell hit her, making her gag, and nearly vomit right there on the bed.

'Why do I smell like sake?? Did I get drunk  yesterday? But I don't drink?!' Recognizing the hangover, Shinsa released a groan, trying to remember yesterday's events, but failing.

'Heh, heh, heh... don't tell me you don't remember how pathetic you were last night?' A booming voice grumbled in Shinsa's mind, making her wince in pain.

'What the hell are you even talking about right now?!' She questioned the tailed beast inside of her that started laughing again. Each one caused more pain than the last.

'Come on, you must at least remember how you clung to that pathetic fool while crying like a baby in his arms!' Shinsa widened her eyes in disbelief and furrowed her brows. She looked up to see Sanji who was dead asleep on the chair in front of her. He had his arms crossed and would shiver from time to time.

'I cried and clung onto him?! Him of all people?! The most annoying member of this crew?!!' She thought in disgust. No matter how hard she tried, she could not remember last nights events. 'Dammit! If only Kakashi was here, he would have stopped me from drinking and making a fool of myself!' Shinsa subconsciously thought of her partner.

He was the reason why she stopped drinking anyways. She always found herself in questionable situations whenever she drank, which is why she stayed away from the intoxicating beverage.

"Ugh!" Shinsa covered her mouth, feeling another wave of nausea. 'I have to get out of here!' She thought to herself, wanting to get out of the suffocating room. She soundlessly got out of the bed, and was going to walk out of the infirmary without a second thought, but froze when she looked at Sanji.

She still couldn't believe the Kyuubi when he said she was crying in his arms. His face was a little flush, and he was shivering. The Uchiha bit her lip in frustration and grabbed the blanket she slept with, and wrapped it around him before leaving the infirmary.

It was still pretty dark out, the sun just barely starting to come up. Both Nami and Sanji were early birds so she knew they would awake soon. Even Momonosuke, despite his age was always up early, so she wasn't surprised when she sensed him waking up.

Shinsa made her way into the kitchen, and started to prepare herself a cup of Oolong tea. This beverage was something Kakashi always made her the rare times she was at home, and not out on a mission.

"I used to hate this." She said out loud to herself whilst staring at the tea that she had grown to love and crave over time.

Taking a sip, her migraine was slowly disappearing, and she started to feel relaxed. She ignored the sick feeling in her stomach, and did what she normally did whenever she was depressed.

Suppressing her emotions.

'A Shinobi must not feel.' She tried telling herself this, but couldn't help the agonizing despair she felt just by thinking about Itachi.

Shinsa took another sip of the hot tea, pushing the emotions down like usual, and started to feel her mind ease.

"G-good morning, Shinshi..." a meek voice greeted the girl. She turned her head to see Momonosuke poking his own head into the kitchen.

She wasn't in the best mood, but she didn't feel as irritable as yesterday.

Shinsa looked away from Momonosuke, not paying him much mind. Since she didn't respond to him, Momonosuke walked fully into the kitchen, and sat in the chair next to her. He poured himself some of the tea that Shinsa brewed earlier, and drank it with a satisfied smile.

"I wanted to ask you Shinshi... you're a kunoichi, right?" Momonosuke hesitantly asked the Uchiha.

'So they really do have them here.'

Shinsa didn't respond to his question, and instead got up from her seat, and wordlessly walked away from the kid.

"Wait-!"

But she didn't wait. Instead she flickered right in front of the infirmary with the tea still in her hand, and opened the door. Even though she wasn't as heartbroken as she was yesterday, she was still pretty upset and being around Momonosuke was stressing her out.

Sometimes when she looked at his curious face, she saw a young Itachi, which greatly distressed her.

Upon entering the infirmary, Shinsa momentary froze in place seeing that Sanji was awake, and was rubbing her blanket on his face.

"What the hell..?" She muttered not understanding what she was seeing. Immediately the cook jumped up from the chair, and stopped what he was doing. His face flushed from embarrassment at being caught in the act.

"S-Shinsa-Sama! Where did you go?!" He quickly changed the subject.

When Sanji had woken up, he was surprised to find Shinsa had disappeared. Before he could start looking for her, he felt the weight of the blanket on him, and was confused as to how it got there. It was only when the smell of lavender hit his nose that he realized that it was Shinsa's blanket and she had wrapped it around him.

'It smells like her.' He thought to himself, and couldn't help drowning his face in the scent, since he didn't expect for Shinsa to come back at that exact moment.

"You're disgusting." She coldly stated. For a moment, Shinsa forgot he was a weird pervert since he's been somewhat normal the last couple of days.

Ignoring her statement, Sanji got up from the chair and walked up to her.

"Are you feeling better Shinsa-Sama?" He asked her hesitantly, reaching his hands out.

"Let me just say one thing. I don't remember what happened yesterday and I don't care to remember." She pushed the worried hands away from her, and placed the cup of tea on Chopper's desk.

'She doesn't seem like she's lying, but I wanted to ask her what made her so upset...' Sanji thought to himself with a crestfallen expression. 'Maybe I can ask Nami what they were talking about later'

Shinsa released a sigh, and brushed her hair back with her hand. She took off her gloves and unwrapped the bandage that covered the artificial limb. Since Sanji already knew of its existence, there was no reason to hide it from him.

She really didn't care about hiding it in general anymore.

'I feel gross. I should probably take a shower.' She thought to herself, wanting to scrub her body clean and then soak up in nice hot bath.

"By the way Shinsa-Sama, is there anything specific you want for breakfast?" Sanji had seen her hand multiple times now so it didn't really surprise him as much as it used to.

"I'm not hungry." The Uchiha quickly responded.

"There's no way you're not hungry! You haven't eaten in almost two days now, so you have to eat something!" Even Sanji was beginning to get annoyed with the Uchiha's constant refusal of food. What did she have against it?

"Do you know how annoying you are?" Shinsa suddenly asked him, with her eyes narrowed. Her Sharingan wasn't activated for once, and she had the genjutsu she usually casted, dispelled. Whatever reactions or feelings she would witness from the Straw hats now would be their true self, but she didn't care.

She didn't care about anything in this world anymore.

Shinsa turned so she was fully facing Sanji, and pushed him back harshly, making him fall into a seated position on the bed that was behind them.

"You're always butting in to my business, and act so concerned with everything I do, when you don't even know me." She poked his forehead in a condescending way, clearly showing her irritation. "Nakama this, nakama that! I don't care about building bonds with you all. I joined this crew for temporary convenience, and will leave once that no longer aligns with my interests."

She went to poke him hard again, but he grabbed her finger in place.

"I can tell you don't mean that." Sanji softly said to the Uchiha. His mind kept flashing back to her crying yesterday and all he felt was guilt for not knowing why she was so distressed. He prided himself in his chivalrous ways, so seeing a lady hurting was affecting him greatly.

Shinsa's eye twitched in irritation, and her mouth formed a scowl. Sanji was definitely getting on her nerves. One thing that Shinsa hated was when people would act familiar with her when they didn't know anything about her. She hated it when people gave out unconditional acts of kindness, especially because it reminded her of how she used to be.

And where did that get her?

Constant betrayals and loss.

"Oh I definitely mean it all right. I don't know what kind of noble image of me you have in your mind, but you should erase that." Shinsa started, pulling her finger out from Sanji's grasp, and reaching for the chest pocket on his blouse.

The sudden action made Sanji flinch, and his face redden. His heart began beating faster, not knowing what the Uchiha was doing.

'I-is this what I think this is?? Shinsa-Sama!' His eyes shut when her face got close to his, and he lightly opened his mouth.

The Uchiha pulled out the pack of cigarettes  and the lighter from his pocket, and when she looked back at Sanji's face, her eye twitched again.

'This guy is so dumb.' She thought, hiding the disturbed expression that threaten to show. Since she's been in this world, she's been too expressive, which she didn't enjoy at all. She hated it when people knew what emotions she felt. Showing emotions was a flaw in the Shinobi world that could lead to death, and she was already neglecting that important rule.

Shinsa took one of the cigarettes out, and threw the pack onto his lap, making Sanji open his eyes at the sudden object hitting him.

"Just what did you think I was going to do?" She asked him while putting it to her lip.

His eyes widened, and his entire face all the way down to his neck flushed a deep scarlet.

"S-shinsa-Sama, of course I didn't think you would do anything!" He defended himself, but then his attention was grabbed when she lit the cigarette and began smoking it. "You shouldn't do that when you're not feeling well!" He exclaimed, worried about her health.

As she usually did, she ignored him, took a long drag, and turned away from him when she released the smoke.

Shinsa didn't smoke that often, but right now she wanted to relieve some of the irritation she felt. She wanted to numb the pain in both hear head and heart.

"Once again, stop acting so concerned with what I do. I don't care for your weird perverted fetishes with women. Stop assuming people will be grateful with your "chivalry", because honestly, it's so pathetic." Shinsa was cruel with her words, reverting back to how she was when she first met the crew.

Whatever progress they made in causing her to open up to them, disappeared.

"As long as it's you calling me that, I can die happy!" Sanji exclaimed, not even the least bit upset with her harsh words.

Her eyes squinted, and she pressed her lips together.

Sanji's beaming face, and eyes with hearts in them were pissing her off. He always gave the opposite expected reaction to her insults, which only further irked her.

"Tch." She clicked her tongue, and grabbed his face with her hand, pushing him hard. He fell onto his back with a soft thud, not really resisting the Uchiha. He never felt the need to be on guard around her, because deep down he knew she wouldn't do anything to physically hurt him.

"Fine. I'll eat whatever you prepare. Bring it to me after I finish my shower." His grin only widened at this, and he sprung up from the bed excitedly.

"I'll cook you a hearty delicious breakfast my love, just wait for me!" And he sprinted out of the room.

The dark laughter echoing in her mind, mocking her, made a vein of irritation appear on her forehead.

Sanji was so ridiculous that she didn't even know how to deal with him. Sometimes when he was concerned about her, it reminded her of Kakashi, but then he would act like a stupid pervert, making her mad that she even compared him to her beloved.

'Yeah, I'm going to start looking for a way off this crew.' She thought to herself, not at all enjoying the interaction she just had with the cook.

_______________

So, Sanji is kinda delulu.

His love and obsession with women is making him blind to the fact that Shinsa would really kill him if she needed to.

Even though she's had a lot of emotional interactions with him, she isn't that fond of him. If she were to rank the crew in order from most liked, to least, he would probably be at number 7 or even 8. Luffy and Chopper were the two she liked the most. Zoro coming in 3rd because he left her alone the most.
