200 Years

Rex wakes up again and pushes the door up, releasing him. He falls out of the pod onto his knees, throwing up.

"Disgusting." Rex groans, wiping his mouth. He looks up and sees his wife's empty pod. "Rachel...no."

Rex then stands and grits his teeth. ~I'm gonna find whoever took you. And I'll make them pay.~ He then sees something past the pods. It looked like some kind of chamber, he sees the control console and taps it, opening the chamber.

Rex laughs quietly, surprised at what he sees. "You've got to be kidding me."

"Never thought I'd see or put on one of these again. Better start the suit sequence." Rex stands on the platform next to the suit and taps the power sequence. Suddenly large mechanical arms appear and take parts from the suit of armor and latch them in place around Rex's body suit.

Once finished, Rex then flexes his arms satisfied with the armor's fit. ~Not bad.~ Rex then sees some weapons nearby.

Rex puts the SAW on his back and the pistol on his leg. He then takes the DMR and loads it. Rex puts the DMR on his back and then makes his way to the door.

Stuck.

~Great. Power's out.~ Rex then pries his hands into the door, all thanks to the enhanced strength from his armor. He pushes the door open and then gets attacked by some teardrop-like spider thing.

Rex struggled with the thing and smashed it into the ground, making it a slimy mess. He stood up and looked at the thing. "The Flood's on Earth?! How?!"

Being on the safe side, Rex took out his magnum and kept it on hand in case any other Spores decide to attack him. He makes his way down a hallway and sees more Spores in a pile. Rex immediately takes out his SAW and mows them all down before they could jump on him.

"This place is infested with them, I gotta get above ground ASAP." Rex runs down the corridor and finally makes it to the door that leads to the elevator. "Door controls. But they're fried."

The Rex remembered something. His Mark VI suit had a custom device built into his left gauntlet: the Artemis.

"Let's see." Rex waves his hand across his gauntlet and a miniature screen appears over it. "Okay, link up with the door controls." Rex tapped a few buttons and the large metal door opens, showing the stairs that lead towards the elevator. Rex then hears something behind him and immediately takes out his DMR firing at it. The figure then falls, revealing it to be a dead Flood, having infected a human body.

"This is nuts. How the hell did the Flood get to Earth?" Rex hisses as he reloads his weapon. The former Captain then gets in the elevator activating the controls. The elevator then makes its way up. As it reaches the surface, Rex drops his jaw underneath his helmet at what he sees.

"My God..." Rex breathes as he walks off the platform and makes his way down the hill. "Did the explosions do this?" Rex then sees his home town and jogs down the path. As he reaches the center of town, Rex sighs seeing all the broken down houses and busted cars. "Rachel...where are you?"

Suddenly a clattering noise is heard and Rex turns to see something in between the houses in the shadows.

"Show yourself!" Rex orders, leveling his DMR at the figure. It then staggers out...revealing it to be B1!

"H-hel-lp-lp-" The droid glitches as he falls to the ground.

"B1!" Rex puts his rifle on his back and looks at his robotic friend. B1 was missing his left arm and his antenna was completely bent. "Geez, hang on buddy."

Rex picks up the damaged droid bridal style and walks off. ~Where's the house? Hopefully his spare parts are still there.~

He spots the house and runs through the doorway. Rex sets B1 down on the shredded remains of the couch and looks for his toolbox. He finds it in the garage, right where he left it before the explosion. Rex grabs it and looks through the garage for B1's spare parts. He then located a new left arm and brand new antenna, grabbing them both and racing back into the living room.

"Hang on, B1." Rex then attaches the new left arm onto B1 and screws it in place. He snaps off the old antenna and replaces it with the new one. Rex then opens B1's back panel and activates his power switch.

B1's photoreceptors then came back online, turning white and not black. "Where am I?" B1 then sits up on the couch and sees his long lost master. "By the motherboard! Master Rex! It's you!"

"B1, what happened to you? Wha-What's happened to Earth?!" Rex cries standing up.

"Are you alright sir?" B1 inquires standing as well. "Where have you been these last 200 years?"

"HOW MANY?!" Rex yells.

"Well, to be accurate 211 years. Sir, what happened to you and Madam Rachel?"

Rex freezes at the question. He sighs and looks at the droid. "She's gone, B1. They took her. And I intend to find her and put a bullet in the monsters who took her."

"Well sir, I am your servant. As such, I see it my duty to help you retrieve Madam Rachel and bring her back safely." B1 declares.

Rex smiles at his companion. "Thanks B1."

"Of course sir." B1 nods.

"B1, why were you so damaged when I found you?" Rex asks.

"Some ghastly large monster, sir. Humongous enough to rip even you in half, Master Rex."

"Monster, huh?" Rex then takes his DMR off his back. "Well it won't have the chance to even touch me should it ever show its face again."

B1 then sighs in relief. "It feels good to be at 100% efficiency again."

"Glad to hear it, buddy. Let's get moving. First, you're gonna need a weapon." Rex then heads into the garage. He pulls something off the wall and loads it, handing it to B1.

"You're gonna need this." Rex says.

"I've never used a weapon of this size before. But I will do my best." B1 replies attaching it to his back.

"Let's go. Concord's our best bet at getting transportation and supplies." Rex states.

"Understood, sir." B1 nods and they both head out.

Rex and B1 head down the path that leads into the forest of dead trees. "B1 what's happened to the world?" Rex questions.

"A century and a half after your disappearance sir, an armada of Covenant cruiser invaded Earth. Seeing as how it wasn't all completely desolate, they decided to use whatever was alive as resources for their armies. Not long after, another ship crash-landed on Earth; carrying numerous disgusting creatures. I saw some sort of creature as small as a cat infect an animal I saw and it turned into this horrid monster!"

"The Flood. Dang it!" Rex curses.

"Ever since the explosion sir I've yet to see a human face. Just those small creatures and large ghastly monsters. It's been awful!"

"Well, I'm back now B1. And I'm not going anywhere." Rex says confidently.
