chapter 11

*NICO*

So it’s been about a month since everything’s blown up on us.  We’ve all settled into this routine.  Serena and Matthias are on decent terms, though nothing like before.  He still splits his time between work, the two of us and his boys.  He doesn’t stay the night anywhere though we have come to an agreement that until he fully decides on what he truly wants it’s only fair for him to stay in a room of his own.  Poor guy is wearing himself thin.

So today is a Sunday and we are outside his, well I guess at the moment it could be considered Serena’s, house.  We are here to spend some time with the boys.  He managed to talk me into coming with him yet again.  Not that I don’t love his boys, I do.  They are just too cute.  I just don’t want to get too attached to them just in case this whole situation doesn’t end in my favor.

Serena is not answering the door so he just lets us in with the key he still has.  The twins are in the kitchen when we walk in.

“Nico, Nico!”  Elijah jumps up at the sight of me and I have to smile at him.  Is it a good thing that he bypasses his dad and heads straight for me?

“Daddy.”  Zainey greets Matthias.

“Where’s your mamma at?”

“She’s sick again daddy.”  Elijah responds as I see Thias’ brow crease with worry.

“How long has this been going on?”

“Almost since you left us.”  Is it just me or do I sense a hint of resentment in Zainey’s voice?

“Zainey, we talked about this didn’t we?”  He hangs his head and nods.  Now that he’s scolded Zainey I can tell that his mind is wondering to Serena.

“Go.”  I mouth to him.  He looks at me with a question to be sure I’ll be okay.  I just nod my head towards the bathroom to let him know it’s fine.  I wonder what’s wrong with her and why she hasn’t mentioned being sick before.  To be honest I’m worried about her too and Matthias going to check on her will put my mind at ease also.

“So boys, have you two had breakfast yet?”

“No.”  I hear two responses at the same time.  It’s the rare times like that when you can tell they are twins.

“Okay then, let’s get you something to eat.”  With that I set about the kitchen looking for stuff to cook a basic breakfast for the two of them.

*MATTHIAS*

Okay so I’m getting pretty worried.  Basically according to Zain, Serena’s been sick at least a month.  I left Nico in the kitchen with the boys, but not after encouragement from him.  He should be okay with them.

“Serena.”  I call out as I knock on the bathroom door.

“You okay in there?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine in a bit.”

“You sure you don’t need anything?”

“Mattie, I said I’ll be fine.”  That stung mainly because she hasn’t called me Mattie since I told her about Nico.  At least not when I was around.

“Okay, but we need to talk when you get out.”  After I said that she opens the door and looks at me.  Gosh, she looks tired and worn out.  What the heck is wrong with her?

“Where are the boys?”  She asks.

“With Nico in the kitchen, I believe he’s making them breakfast.  Let’s go somewhere to talk.”

She just nods and leads me to our bedroom.  Ouch.  There’s another pang as I realize it’s not our bedroom anymore, it’s hers.

She turns to me after she shuts the door behind us.

“Well?”

“Well what Mattie?”  I sigh; she’s going to be difficult about this isn’t she.

“I want to know what’s wrong.”

“Nothing’s wrong, I’m perfectly fine.”

“Bull!  You were just in the bathroom puking your guts up, and Zainey told me you’ve been like this for at least the past month.  Not to mention you look exhausted.  What I want to know is what’s wrong and why you haven’t mentioned anything before.”

“You gave up the right to know when you cheating on me with Nico!”  She yells.  I flinch at that because she never yells, and a part of me knows she is right too.

“Look Serena I know I hurt you, but there is nothing we can do about that now.  Weather you believe it or not I still care about you, and right now you are sick.  Please, just tell me what’s wrong.”

“You might want to sit down for this Mattie.”  She sighs and I look at her questioningly as I sit on the bed.  This does not sound good.  Don’t tell something serious is wrong with my Serena.  Wait, my Serena?  I’m still so confused.  I’m not sure she’s even mine anymore.  Then there’s Nico, and there is no way I want to give him up.  I can’t have both though.  I realized I just got sidetracked, I need to focus.

“Okay Serena, so what’s this about?”  She takes in a deep breath, and my jaw drops open at what she says next.

“I’m pregnant.”
