The Shape in the Rock
Okay, here we go!!! :) Hope you like the song even though this has nothing to d with the chapter! Thank you for being so patient guys! You are the best!!!
Solis and I walked down the cobbled street looking for an empty cave that could hold the trolls. Let's say we weren't having the best of luck. Already halfway done and still haven't found anything that might be of use. "Is there anywhere that we haven't looked?" I ask panting slightly.
"Well there always the northern part," He said gesturing to the list of places to look that he had made in his hand.
I nodded and turned right towards the northern end with Solis close behind me.
As we entered the said area, and a different color of crystals met us. For every different part of crystal cavern, there is a different color of crystal. This area had colors of blue crystals. The west had red, the East Orange, the North blue, and the South pink. In the center where the bearers meet was a large formation of all the different colors. They made a staff looking thing wrapping around each other. The structure caught my eye, and I turned to stare at it. I always how it looked. It reflected the light cast from the torches making the colors dance on the stone walls. I shook out of my distracted thoughts and turned back to Solis. "Where to now?" I asked
"Well we have to pretty far into the area before we can even think about looking for a place where they can stay," He said matter a factly
I nodded my understanding and led the way down the winding stone streets. When we turned a corner, we found we had wandered into a dead end. "That's not supposed to be here," Solis commented looking at the map he had also made.
Curiously I looked at it and traced my finger over a more massive crack in the thick gray rock. "What is supposed to be here?" I asked, not looking away from inspecting the rock.
"Well this is supposed to be a ruin of an old statue," He answered. "But that doesn't seem to be here."
I could hear him shuffle about and cry. "Carya! Come look at this!" I raced over to the spot he was at and looked at where he was pointing. It was a shape in the rock. But this was in the shape of my crystal. I looked slightly surprised at the shape than at the crystal around my neck. Well, not really surprised, nine years in Crystal Cavern taught me to expect the unexpected. Seeing there was only one thing to do, I put my crystal gently in the rock space. At once, the green light seemed to spread through the cracks in the wall creating seance of war and victory. Trolls were swimming in the sea and the volcanoes, in the fields and trees. Trolls I had never seen before lite up the darker space. A story of great passion and love. As I walked down the wall, the scenes changed into battle. I saw trolls die, and villages burned. I saw older male trolls rushing their wives and children to safety. I watched with slight horror as the images became more gruesome by the second. And then the final one was the four-armed ones in chains at the bottom of the feet of the Elementals. It was incomplete, however. The faces had no detail, and it seemed that some had been crossed out of redrawn. I realized that this was the history and past of the war that we are currently fighting right now. I turned to tell Solis and saw he was looking at a picture of a female troll with a child in her arms. I recognized Igétis standing over the pair, the rare smile on his face. I put a hand on Solis and lead him away from the picture. "What do you think these markings mean?" I asked him trying to help him stop the thinking of his mother.
"This is evidently the history of Crystal Cavern and the war so far," Solis said, looking closely at the walls. "I remember most of this stuff happening. Even though I was very young."
"The history of..the war," I muttered looking at the pictures. "But why did my necklace activate it?"
Solis shrugged. "I don't know. But let's keep looking for a place for the other trolls."
I nodded my understanding, and we turned to leave the carving/painting behind us when I spotted something. "Hey, what's that?" I asked, pointing to a lever looking thing.
Solis walked over to inspect it and pulled the thing towards him experimentally. The still lit up wall shifted, and the rock split apart. I watched besides Solis as a doorway appeared. The stone stopped moving, and Solis and I exchanged a glance. "So I'm guessing we go in," I said and started to move towards the doorway.
"Wait!" Solis grabbed my arm to hold me back. "You don't know what's in there." He said desperately.
"And we will never know unless we try," I answered and shrugged off his hand and walked through the doorway.
Solis, looking furiously at his actions, followed.
The room was vast and rectangular. Several separate rooms that looked large enough for separate one or two trolls. Several stone chairs around a stone table. Brightly colored crystal covered the walls cast brilliant lights to go on the stone objects in the room. A separate hallways lead off to smaller rooms. I walked forward in awe as I inspected the room. "Do you think this will do?" I asked over my shoulder.
"Very well I think," Solis concluded right behind me.
I jumped, not expecting him to be right behind me. "Don't do that," I said angrily
He shrugged apologetically, and we continued to look around the room. At last, we came to a hallway that leads off to another separate room. We walked in, and our mouths dropped open. This room was like the other separate rooms but humanoid. With a soft bed and rug lying on the stone floor. Various shelves lined the walls and boxes for storage. "Do you have the feeling this room was made just for our use?" I questioned Solis
"Yes," He answered, bending down to look at one of the shelves. "This all looks strangely new. Look," He picked out the cox and showed it to me. "No dust."
I ran to the bed and sat down on it. Sure enough, no cloud of dust erupted from the sheets. "Well, we'll figure out where it came from afterward. For now, we found out where to put the trolls."
He nodded, and we exited the room. As we walked back to the room where we were keeping the others I was thinking deeply of what I saw in the, well I don't know to call it except for a room. Why was it made for us? Why did my necklace activate it? Well, not time to figure it out now. We came to the cage and Solis walked in. "Can everyone please be quiet." He called.
I looked at him approvingly, "He is definitely getting better at public speaking," I thought proudly
"We would like you to get into a few orderly lines so we can take you to your new home," He called
The Trolls looked at each other with curiosity, and a few grumbled in annoyance that they just got comfortable, but they did as he asked and formed two long lines. Blinky was in the front of one line Jim in front of the other. I lead them out of the cavern and down to the area where Solis and I found the cave and found it was just like when we left it except it had seemed to have closed. Walking up and putting my crystal in the smaller like hole and the process started. I heard many oohs and awes. And I entered the room calmly followed by the others and Solis. The door shut closed behind us as Blinky jogged forward and I turned toward him. "How did you find this place?" He asked, "And why did it take you so long to get back to us."
'These trolls asked a lot of questions,' I thought and then answered. "We don't know all the details for certain, but as you saw, my crystal activated it. But the carvings were the war so far. I'm going to ask Igétis about it. I've never seen anything like it," I trailed off as I looked around the room again scrutinizing it.
"Are you okay?" He asked, and I nodded distractedly. "I'm fine you should get your troll situated."
He nodded and went to get the others organized.
Jim POV
I saw Blinky talking to Carya. To say I had been shocked to find out that she was my sister would have been an understatement. All my life, it had just been my mom and me. Then Mr.Strickler was started dating my mom. However, I always saw Blinky as my fatherly figure. But a sibling? No, never. She is trying to save us and her story. Ugh, I don't know how to feel about it.
On the one hand, I find it kind of hard to believe, on the other I'm happy to know that my Dad didn't just abandon my mom and me. But then I feel slightly betrayed. Why didn't mom ever look for her or tell me about her? Then again is the house burning down the real reason Carya left? Or..did something else happen. UGh, as I said, I didn't know how to feel. Blinky walks away from Carya, and she looks around the room, distracted as she finally goes into a separate room. Blinky calls the trolls into their separate area, and soon I am the only one standing in the main room. Making a quick decision, I went into the place that I had seen Carya go in. My first impression was that the room was obviously made for humans. I saw Carya sitting on the bed looking at what looked at ruby and gold ring she was taking to it like it was a person "Hey Dad. You made me promise to find my brother and Mom. And I was scared, but he is here! Jim looks just like your troll form. Except he is blue and you were red. Now I have to find a way to get him and his friends accepted. But I don't know-how. I don't know how I can save him. What would you do? I need you, Dad. Now more than ever." I cleared my throat awkwardly, and Carya quickly put the right in a pocket of her sweatshirt. "Jim i-I didn't hear you come in? Settling alright?"
"Yeah I'm okay, why were talking to a ring?"
"Oh, This. This was Dad's ring." She takes it out again and stares fondly. "It's the only thing I have left of him. Well, it's not the original. Not fully, but that is another story for another day. Anyways the gold is from the original, but the ruby had to be replaced by Solis. And he also had to remake the whole thing because it got smashed."
"He remade it?"
"Yeah he is good in the forge, and he loves the library. But I think he does it more in spare time. He has the gift of memorizing. He can Memoize the plan for a new trap or war canon. Or a text that contains the history of how the Elemental race started," She laughed quietly "And I thought I liked to read."
I smiled too. "Blinky is like that too, but Claire is the one who memorizes everything." My smile grew when I remembered my girlfriend.
She looked at me, "You really love her, don't you?"
"Yes," I said without thinking one bit. "Claire is and always has been the love of my life."
"Do you remember Dad at all?"
"Little bits and pieces. Not much. I don't need him in my life. Never had."
It seemed that I had hit a little too close to home when I said that she looked away. "I'm sorry you feel that way. I-i need to go. I need to figure out how to get you guys," She then left abruptly.
I sighed and hit my hand, violently on the bed. "Great small talk, Jim," I thought sarcastically. "You have already offended your only real link to your past."
I decided that I should try to make amends with Carya later. So I got up and tried to find Claire. She was talking with Blinky, Carya was nowhere to be seen, I shrugged it off and approached my girlfriend. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but I think I found your room Claire," I called, and they looked up at me as I walked towards them.
"There's one for me?" She asked, quite surprised "I thought they were for all the trolls?"
"Well this one was humanoid, so I think it's for you," I conclude
Blinky nodded his agreement. "That would be probable."
"Do you mind going to your room without me? I want to talk to Blinky alone," I asked
She nodded. I pointed to which one was her room and she left. As soon as she was out of earshot, Blinky looked at me concerned. "Are you feeling alright master Jim?"
"I'm...okay I guess I'm okay," I said looking at the ground. 'It's just."
"Just what?"
"Hm. I don't know if I should believe Carya's story... I don't want to put you all in danger because I made the phony decision to trust her. Plus what is there to say that she isn't lying there isn't an ounce of proof to say that she isn't lying. And I kinda don't want to believe her," I mumbled the last part quietly.
"Hm? Why is that?"
"I don't like the thought that my mom had lied to me all those years."
"So you think that if what your sister says is true you would have felt as if your mother betrayed your trust," Blinky concluded
"I guess,"
"Hm. But will your trust in your mother fade because you found out something that she had kept a secret,"
I didn't answer just looked away.
"Listen to me, Jim," Blinky put his stone hands on my shoulders. "Your human bond with your mother is so strong I don't believe anything to tear it apart. The next time you see her, you should question her on this. But I don't believe you worry about it,"
"Yeah, thanks Blinky. I-I needed that," I smiled at him
"Like you, humans say no problem."
CARYA POV
I smiled at Jim and Blinky. I don't know if it was weird that I had heard their whole conversation, but I'm glad I did. My brother tectonically did have a father. Even though it wasn't my Dad.
~~~~~~~~~(:D)
OKAY!!! Hope you liked it! I am so so so so so so so sorry it took so long! :'(. but it's here now and that's what counts!! :) I love Blinky as Jim's fatherly figure but I can't find many books that focus on that. :( Anyway, I will try to post more often.
