Tuesday Mornings

Jeremiah was standing outside of the entrance of the pizzaplex, it was Tuesday morning, about an hour and a half before opening time. She usually only came in about half an hour before the place opened, but came an hour earlier by Josh's request. She checked his massage on her Fazwatch again. She was nervous, and wished she was still in her apartment right now. She wasn't looking forward to today.

She had gotten a few messages from other employees, mostly stuff along the line of "everything'll be fine" and "You're going to do greatly." Right then a message from Roxy came in. She opened it, it simply read "You rock girl" with 2 doggy paws next to it. It managed to lift up her spirits a bit. Roxanne was her favorite of the animatronics. Originally, she had tried to get a position in her area, but she had been too late with handing in her resume, and got the Daycare instead. She hadn't minded, she liked the daycare too. But now, standing there in front of the pizzaplex, about to meet the new attendant, she wished she could go back in time and tell her old self to react quicker.

Truth be told, she needed this job. In the four years between her failed attempt at going to university and her joining the Fazcrew, she had gone from job to job, each one seemingly being worse than the previous one. The few jobs she liked had awful pay, and the ones that paid well, she could never see herself do for more then a few months without getting a burn-out. Her job at the plex had truly been the best thing she'd managed to find in those 4 years, it was the reason why she wasn't homeless or miserable. She just hoped it would stay that way, but couldn't imagine a future in which she wouldn't be miserable when that thing was around. She shook her head clear. The decision had been made, this was out of her control. She'd just have to try and make ends meet for those next few months; she could always look for a better job in the meantime. Though she was going to miss this place.

She took one final, deep breath and walked in. She handed her badge to one of the staffbots posted near the entrance, who gave her a happy squeal as greeting. "Good to see you too, bud." She said, as she started to make her way through the entrance lobby of the facility. She first went by Faz-Pad, the coffee shop located near the main entrance, as she usually did during morning hours. This early in the morning, there weren't really any customers. After all, the place wasn't opened yet. However, a Staffbot had started coming to the place as early as 6 A.M, after the building goes out of lock-down, to give the early birds some coffee. Jeremiah waved at the robot, and upon recognizing her, he immediately started brewing her a Red Eye Coffee, which she usually ordered. She smiled at the robot, who responded by giving her one of the Blueberry muffins they also sold. "I shouldn't take this, you'll get in trouble." She said, knowing fully well that the employees were only allowed 1 free drink (unless its water, water was always free for employees) of choice and one free meal a day. So, any additional things such as snacks were to be paid for with their own money. The Staffbot however, pushed the muffin towards her. "At least let me pay for it." Jeremiah said, while she was grabbing towards her bag. The bot interjected her action, put the muffin in her hand and then pointed at himself. "On Me" he said, while going back to fetch her coffee. Jeremiah rolled her eyes, she wasn't sure if the bots were allowed to do that, but hey, she got a free muffin, so she didn't mind it that much. She decided not to report it as an issue, she knew the Staffbot was just being friendly. As long as this sort of thing didn't happen on a regular, she wouldn't tell on him.

After taking her coffee, Jeremiah headed towards the daycare. On her way there, she ran into Josh again. "Ah! Jeremiah! You're here." She nodded slightly. "Hey Josh." She said while taking a sip from her coffee. "Are you excited to properly meet your new co-worker?" Jeremiah looked at him. As sarcastically and dry as she possibly could, she said: "Woohoo, I'm practically dying of excitement right now." Josh frowned at her. "He's not that bad, I promise you. Nothing is gonna go wrong. And the kids'll love him, you'll see.". 'Nothing was gonna go wrong,' like 'nothing was going to go wrong' in the Theater too, she wanted to comment. But she was wise enough to not point that out.

"Did you test it?" she asked instead. Josh looked at her with a dumbfounded look on his face. "The animatronic, did you test if it actually works, like does it do exactly what you intended it to do." Josh put his hand in his hair and scratched it, somethinging he often did when he was nervous. "Of course, of course. We tested him several times, no problems were found, like none at all." He answered. "Then why are you nervous?" Josh stopped smiling, a look of slight concern on his face. He seemed to think for a bit, then sighed. "Well, there might be one thing you'd like to know..." Before he could finish his sentence, both their fazwatched pinged. A message from Emanuel. "Where are you?" it said. "Looks like we'd better go." Josh's smile returned as he started walking down the stairs. "What were you going to say?" Jeremiah asked. "What? Oh, that. It's nothing Jeremiah, I was just pulling your leg. Seriously, you've got nothing to worry about. Now come on, we better go to the Daycare." Jeremiah sighed as she started walking after him. She doubted her friend was honest with her, but it was no use trying to get something out of him now. The time had come, she wouldn't be able to postpone this moment any longer. She was going to have to meet the new Daycare attendant, rather she liked it or not.

She noticed that the lights were already on in the Daycare as she went to open the door. "Oh, by the way, those lights are fully automated now, so you won't need to turn them off anymore. They'll go out automatically during Naptime and Lock-down, they'll be on during any other moment of the day." Josh said, Jeremiah just nodded. She was guessing this had something to do with the new Daycare attendant, but didn't bother questioning it.

As she opened the giant door, she was surprised when at first, all she saw was Emanuel, sitting on the desk while reading what looked like a manual. She set a few steps towards the head programmer. But as she was about to greet him, she suddenly heard a loud and rather high voice say, "Hello there, Friends!" Jeremiah was startled, and accidentally dropped her coffee, causing its still hot insides to land all over her clothes and the floor. She looked towards the direction the voice had come from. A very tall, skinny animatronic was standing next to one of the play structures, not too far away from the door. Its design had a lot of jester themed clothing parts, and it had a round face that seemed to have a crescent moon on top of it, as well as several spikes around its face that seemed to resemble sunrays. All those things were things the old design had as well, all be it a bit different in some places. But one thing was noticeably very divergent from the original design. Its expression seemed to be, what Jeremiah could only describe as, 'worried' in that very moment.

"Oh! I'm so sorry! Here, let me help you!" The Daycare attendant started reaching for her. Jeremiah immediately took a step back, annoyance and anger seeping through her voice. "Stay away from me!" she scoffed. The animatronic quickly pulled its hands back, causing the bells around its arms to jingle a bit. "I just-" Emanuel came in between the two of them. "Sun, I thought I told you not to scare people." The animatronic looked confused. "But it was an accident, I didn't mean to-". Emanuel sighed. "It's okay Sun, no harm done. Just be careful, okay?" "Okay..." The animatronic drooped its shoulders a bit. Emanuel turned towards Jeremiah. "I'm so sorry, I should've seen that one coming. Sun's a bit of a loud and enthusiastic pal. I hadn't noticed you came in, I was checking if his instruction manual was correct while waiting for you two."

"I'm fine." She said calmly, she didn't want Emanuel to feel too bad about it. She knew he had been working hard on this project, and guessed he might've taken some pride in it, even if he didn't show it. However, despite that, she couldn't change the way she felt about the outcome. She couldn't help it, she hated what that thing had done. And she doubted she'd be able to forgive it. But for her two college's sake, she'd at least pretend it didn't bother her, just like the other employees did.

Emanuel looked back at the animatronic. "Anyways, Sun, meet your co-worker: Jeremiah. She has been working at Superstar Daycare for quite some time now. I expect you to be on your best behavior." He said. The animatronic nodded. "Of course." Emanuel looked at the two of them for a minute longer. "I expect there to be no problems today. Joshua and I should probably get started, so we'll leave you two to get this place ready for opening time. Jeremiah, If you've got any questions on how Sun or Moon functions, we've left you a manual. Also, I'll call a Staffbot to bring you a towel and some fresh clothes, we should have some spares. Is a medium good?" He finished. Jeremiah nodded. It would probably be a bit oversized as she was used to wearing Smalls, but it would be good enough for today. After that, the two men left.

Jeremiah checked her Fazwatch. There was still about 55 minutes left till opening time. She sighed, if she needed to be this early at work, why did Emanuel and Josh leave so soon? She glanced at the Daycare attendant. She could guess why, but she wasn't planning on "getting to know" this one. She took the spare mob, noticing the other one was gone. She must have left it somewhere Sunday evening, and started cleaning up the coffee mess.

"Let me do that." She heard the animatronic say. She glanced over for a minute, it hadn't moved, it was just kind of fidgeting with its fingers while looking at her. "it's fine. You go get the area ready for the kids." When she noticed it hadn't moved yet, she spoke more sternly. "I'm serious, just go away. Make yourself useful." She heard what she thought was a robotic sigh. "Okay... Friend?" it said. Jeremiah bit her tongue. She wanted to scream "I'm not your 'friend', and I'll never be.", but knew it was just part of its programming. Getting angry would be useless. This was going to be a hard day, she knew it.
