Panic and doubts
Jeremiah's world was dark, everything in her mind seemed to be a blur. A smudge that made it impossible to think straight. She tried to focus on her senses. Though quickly regretted it when she started to feel a burning pain all throughout her body. She wanted to groan, scream even, but nothing escaped her lips.
She heard a sound. Straining, she tried to focus on what she heard. If she focused on something else, perhaps she wouldn't feel the pain that much anymore. It seemed like a person, maybe? She was able to recognize words, but didn't fully understand them. So she tried to focus harder, tried to hear what was being said.
".... Really think .... work?" It was working, sort of. Though some of the words she didn't quite get. "Look... her! .... Out cold! Don't forget.... Bruises." She was almost there; she could feel it. She just needed to concentrate a bit harder. "No! we should call for emergency, or warn security!" It had worked. She understood the sentences. The voice she heard seemed to be in distress. "YOU ALREADY GOT US IN TROUBLE! There was a pause, as if the disembodied voice was waiting for someone to reply, but that reply never came. Or at least, she didn't think it did? "They're going to find out. Either we tell them, or she does." Another silence followed. Perhaps the person in question was calling? "WE CAN'T DO THAT! DO YOU WANT US DECOMISSIONED?" .... "I don't want to go either, but what choice do we have? Maybe if we just go along and BEHAVE, things could turn out fine! ... Oh, who am I kidding, there's no way they'll let us live after this." Jeremiah could feel the heaviness in her eyes slowly disappear. She could pick up light coming from somewhere behind her eyelids. "I'M NOT FIDGETING!" .... "Our first day outside and you already blew it" ... "Well, it's true, isn't it?" Jeremiah tried to move, she pretty quickly managed to gain control over her left arm, slowly lifting it up to her head. "Oh snap, I think she's waking up" ... "No, that is a TERRIBLE idea!"
She slowly blinked open her eyes as she groaned. The sudden bright light made her eyes hurt. She was disorientated, and it took her a while to adjust. She looked around, she was in a mostly red room. One she didn't immediately recognize. She tried to get up, but when she put force on her right arm, she collapsed again. Her arm hurt. It hurt a lot. She had trouble remembering how she got there. "You shouldn't move." She heard the voice again. Suddenly, it didn't sound as human as she thought it did. She was able to hear the robotic undertones very clearly now. She looked in the direction the voice had come from. The animatronic was sitting there, on a heightened platform, looking back at her. She was able to remember what had happened. That robot had attacked her! She could have been dead if it weren't for one of the kids- "... The kids!" she said, or at least she tried to. Her voice was hoarse, and speaking hurt like hell. "Don't worry, the kids are fine. I asked that girl, Lilith, to keep an eye on them. Here, drink this." The animatronic handed her a cup of something, Jeremiah looked at it suspiciously. "It's just cold water, I'm not allowed to give people anything else. But it should numb the pain a bit." Reluctantly, she accepted the cold drink. It was a bit soothing on her throat. After her drink, she tried to reach for her fazwatch, she needed to contact someone, anyone. Her right arm was bruised. And when she tried to activate the watch, she saw it didn't respond. "It must be broken, I'm sorry." The animatronic said.
She looked around a bit more. She knew where she was now. She was in the spare room where they used to store some theater props, as well as the animatronic itself, whenever no shows were being performed. Now, it had been connected to the daycare as well, so the attendant had an easily accessible room to stay in where the kids wouldn't be able to go. She knew her way around, she could escape whenever she wanted to. Which comforted her. She could leave now too, but she was afraid that she might lose her balance. Her head hurt, she must have hit it at some point without realizing it. No, it would be best if she rested a bit longer. Even if that meant sitting so close to the thing that had tried to kill her earlier. It didn't seem to be aggressive in that moment.
Jeremiah started wondering how she even got into that room; "What happened after?" she asked. Sun's rays were mostly tucked away behind his faceplate. His expression looked almost regretful, though Jeremiah doubted it could feel any sort of regret. The animatronic looked at her, then shook its head. "I don't know. Moon refuses to tell me. Everything was going fine, and then suddenly, I was able to feel pain in my back. Then, Moon became upset with something. I know that he was angry, but I don't know why. I tried to calm him down, but he refused to listen to me. By the time the lights were on, I found you lying on the ground, unconscious. So, I brought you here. It was the only thing I could think of. You don't have to talk, but I need to know. Did... Did Moon do this to you?" Jeremiah nodded, slowly. Sun gave a robotic sigh. "I was afraid so, I mean, I had my strong suspicions, but I hoped he wouldn't have-." The robot cut itself off, covering it's eyes with its hands. "Ooooh, we're gonna get destroyed for this!" She watched as the animatronic slowly lowered its hands again, and let them hang limply next to its body. "I don't want to go yet." It whimpered.
This had been what Jeremiah wanted, what she had hoped for. A reason to get rid of the thing that had been a danger to all of them. All she had to do was tell someone, anyone, what had happened and request a decommission. She could go back to being a solo attendant. What reason would she have to not get it scrapped? But then why, when she looked at the animatronic, at its sad face, the way it had slumped down it's own body as if it had given up everything it might have cared for, did a part of her want to protect it from its soon but inevitable fate.
She didn't think this one could have any feelings, because the old model wasn't capable of that either. But it should have the same program as the main crew now, right? She had seen them sad before, and it had felt like they legitimately felt those feelings. She had seen Freddy be absolutely devastated when he accidentally got a guest stuck inside a room he couldn't reach. Monty had been upset when one of the spoiled kids broke his favorite sunglasses. Someone had thrown rocks at Chica, which had seriously damaged her beak, resulting in her wailing, saying that it actually hurt. On several occasions, she had even walked into Roxanne crying backstage after a bad performance or when someone had called her names. She had never questioned it when this sort of thing happened to them. Could the animatronic in front of her have genuine feelings too? She honestly didn't want to think about it. She couldn't forgive it for what it had done, feeling bad for it just felt wrong. Though, before she realized it, words came out of her mouth. "Are you... sad?" she asked the animatronic. It looked at her. "Sad? I'm devastated. We were so happy to finally be out of maintenance. For the testing and changing and then retesting to stop. To finally fulfill our purpose, and to finally meet the kids. But we've been outside for less than 24 hours and everything's already gone to ruin. I've done my job, I've behaved, I've listened, I'm trying to learn, yet I will be punished too. If I'm not destroyed, then they'll still take away Moon. I don't want that! I don't want to lose Moon. I don't know why he did what he did, why he hurt you. He never wanted people to hurt! And I definitely don't like what he did but losing him would be like losing a part of myself. I care about him! I can't let them take him from me! Not again!" Sun had moved one of his hands back towards his face, while he gripped the edge of the balcony with his other hand. He was looking to the ground.
"Again?" Jeremiah repeated, confusion welling up in her mind. Had they tried to remove Moon at some point? Sun's eyes snapped back at her. "It doesn't matter." He said.
The two of them sat in silence for several minutes. Thoughts were spinning through Jeremiah's mind, It made her head hurt. On a positive sidenote, her throat didn't hurt as badly anymore when she talked. Sun suddenly moved. "I should call someone over. You need proper treatment." Jeremiah tried to get up. "I'm fine, I can see myself out on my own." She said. She was still a bit unsteady on her legs, but managed to stand up straight. "You really shouldn't-" Sun began, as it tried to reach out for her. "Don't." Jeremiah stretched out her hand, causing it to halt. "Did the kids see?" she asked eventually. "What?" Sun looked at her, confused. "Did any of the kids see what happened?" Sun shook its head. "I don't know. Moon says David might've, but the other kids should've been out of viewing range. Why?" She waved her hand around. "It doesn't matter." She said as she started making her way towards the door. At that moment two men came through the door, she was able to stop before she got it slammed in her face. The men were from First Aid. Sun must have already called them. The men came to her side. "Are you okay? Can you tell us what happened?" one of them asked her. "I'm fine." She started. Pausing to gather her thoughts. She couldn't believe what she was about to say. "I don't remember clearly. I think I got caught in something when the lights were out, had a pretty bad fall." She explained, hoping the guys would buy it. "What about those marks on your neck?" The other one asked. She shook her head. Don't remember." She lied. The same man pointed at the animatronic. "What about him, did he do this to you?" She looked at Sun, it was looking back at her, with what she assumed was a shocked expression. "He has nothing to do with it. He's the one that brought me here to rest, and that has called you two. Now, if you excuse me, I'd like to get some painkillers, maybe some ice too." The two guys looked at her. "Of course! Can you walk, or do you want assistance?" She walked out without looking back, allowing the two guys to walk her to the First Aid station. She thought about what she had said. She was willing to give the animatronic one last chance, she had broken the rules too by getting from behind her desk and pushing Moon after all. She just hoped she wouldn't come to regret this.
