Chapter 10

Above is a pic of Voodoo, it's a bit old, but it's an accurate picture. (And TBH I like this pic of her)
-------------------

The day after the group returned to the guild, FairyTail had been scrambling around the hall, and getting jobs in hopes of finding the Fearsome Five, not knowing they were right in their hall.

"Hm, this job here requires a lightning wizard." Erza said, standing next to Lucy and Gray.

Kayla perked up, using her enhanced hearing to listen in.

"It says that there's been a ton of lightning storms in this village." Gray said, reading from the job form. "We can't really call Laxus, he's on a job right now."

"The Village of Storms." Erza muttered, causing Kayla to look over at her. "It's said that the Storm Bringer is from there, we may have a chance of finding them, they could of taken refuge there."

"You're right!" Lucy exclaimed.

"Isn't Kayla a Lightning Mage?" Gray suggested.

"That's right!" Erza said, then she turned around and looked at Kayla. "You mind coming with us for a job?" She asked, "It requires a lightning Mage."

Kayla glanced at the others and they nodded.

"I don't see why not." Kayla told them with a smile and walking over, she had a hard time pushing the feeling of excitement down, it's been forever since she's been to the village.

"Let's get going then!" Lucy exclaimed.

"Hey!" A voice called out, causing the four to look over towards Natsu. "Were you planning on leaving me behind?!" He exclaimed. "We wanna go too!"

"Aye!" Happy agreed.

Erza sighed. "Fine, you can come along too. Let's get headed out, I don't think this job will take that long."

Before Kayla walked out of the guild hall, Finny grabbed onto her shoulder.

"I know you're excited to be going back to that village..." He started. "But remember, the guild isn't too far away from it. I want you to be careful." His eyes were showing concern, and his facial expression was worried.

"Don't worry. I know, Finny. Best bet is that we won't be going into the forest." Kayla said. "I'm trying hard not to think about it."

Finny nodded. "Just be careful. If you're not back in a week, I'm going after you."

Kayla looked at him. "Thanks for caring, but I'll be fine."

"Kayla! You'd better hurry up before the train leaves without us!" Natsu shouted from the doorway.

"Coming!" Kayla exclaimed, "Don't worry Finny." She told him before turning and running out.

"I'm giving you a week!" Finny shouted after her.

The five of them walked to the train station while Happy flew next to Natsu. After a while of going through a line and buying tickets, they were finally on their way to the village.

Even though Kayla was excited, she couldn't help but feel motion sick. She rested her head on the window, sighing as the cool glass made her head feel a bit better.

"You seemed really excited to be going." Erza stated, looking at the blond haired girl.

"Of course! I practically grew up in that village!" Kayla told her.

"Wow, really? Is it true that there's a dragon controlling the weather there?" Gray asked.

"Yeah? Is there?!" Natsu asked, excited.

Kayla looked at him, "Not anymore" She whispered.

"What do you mean by that?" Gray asked, looking at Kayla.

Kayla was quiet, and she looked out the window, shifting her head just a bit, the cool glass making her feel better. "The dragon died." She said, almost in a whisper.

"Died? How?" Natsu asked, before covering his mouth.

"A group of wizards were sick of having it control the weather, so, they killed it. It took a long time, but they killed it." Her voice cracked and she watched the rocks and trees fly past.

"Mommy, Mommy! Look!" A young blond haired girl, looking around 5, exclaimed, pointing to a footprint. "Someone was here!"

A large silver dragon walked up from behind the girl, her golden eyes looking at the footprint. 'It's fresh.' She said, 'They were here not too long ago.'

"Does that mean something bad?" The young girl asked.

'No, Kayla, it doesn't. The human was mostly just passing through. We shouldn't think too much about it'

"Oh, okay!" Kayla exclaimed, a smile on her face and her gray eyes shining.

'Why don't we work on your roar, you've almost perfected it.' The dragon asked.

"Okay Mommy!" Kayla exclaimed, walking behind the silver dragon into a clearing.

'Okay, aim the spell at that rock.'

Kayla nodded and got into her battle stance. "Storm Dragon: Roar!" Kayla exclaimed. A rush of clouds, rain, snow, and lightning shot out of her mouth and once it hit the rock, it shattered into tiny pieces.

"I did it mommy! I did it!"

'You certainly did.' Joy was in her voice, and there was a clear smile on her face.

Suddenly there was a rustle in the bushes, causing Kayla to turn around, raising her guard. The silver dragon stepped in front of Kayla, growling with her golden eyes narrowed. A man walked out of the bushes, short blond hair rested neatly on his head and bright blue eyes scanned the clearing, resting on Kayla, a small smile on his face.

"Kayla." He said, his voice was calm, soft.

Kayla looked at him, unsure. She sniffed the air, he smelled like her. "Who are you?" She asked, grabbing onto the dragon's back leg, more like one of her back leg scales.

"Why Kayla, I'm your father. I've been looking for you for quite a long time."

Kayla looked at him, she felt like she could trust him, his eyes were kind, and he had her scent.

"Why don't you come home with me, you mother and I have been missing you for a long time."

Kayla looked at him. "But Eria's my mommy!" She said.

Her father looked at her, "How can she be your mother?" He asked, "She's a dragon."

"Eria's my mommy!" Kayla exclaimed, holding tightly onto Eria's leg. "I'm not leaving her!"

Her father looked at her, the soft expression on his face was gone, replaced with one of scorn. "You've grown attached. That was a mistake. Men, you know what to do."

Suddenly, Kayla was pulled away from Eria, and she was held back by strong arms.

"Let me go! Mommy!" Kayla exclaimed, her eyes watering.

'Let my daughter go!' Eria screeched, roaring in anger, her large silver wings stretching up.

Suddenly there was a net around her, and no matter how much she struggled, she couldn't get out.

"That net nullifies magic." Kayls'a father exclaimed. "It was personalized for you, as long as you're in there, you won't be able to attack us." He raised his hand and balled it into a fist, lightning surrounding it. "That means you'll feel every bit of the attacks my men throw at you!" He laughed like a mad man and shot lightning at Eria, Kayla watched in horror as more men came from the trees, shooting powerful magic spells at her mother.

"Mommy!" She shouted out, tears running down her cheek. "Stop it! You're hurting her!"

"Shut it brat." The man holding her growled, covering her mouth with a large hand.

Kayla watched as her mother was hit with spell after spell. Soon, she let out a loud roar and fell to the ground, breathing heavily.

"Mommy!" Kayla screeched, managing to get out of the man's grip. She ran up to the net and tried to pull it off of her. "I'll get you out mommy! You'll be fine!" She sobbed, sniffling.

Eria looked at the little blond girl, a small smile creeping on her face. "Kayla, my Stormling, I've enjoyed watching you grow up. You're a great wizard already, and I bet the future will hold wonderful things for you. But, I can't stay with you anymore..."

"What do you mean mommy?"

Eria weakly reached forwards, only her claw fitting through the net. She placed it on Kayla's head.

"You'll meet wonderful people, I'm sure of it. And remember, always smile in the times when it's hard. Never let the bad times bring you down."

Eria removed her claw and moved it to her mouth, scraping it against her tooth. Something feel off her claw she held it in her fist, reaching it through the net. "Open your hands." She said softly.

Kayla did so, and something was dropped into her hands. She looked down, seeing a piece of Eria's claw in her hands.

"Always keep this with you, you won't understand now, but you will when you're older." Eria said. Then her eye dulled and she went limp, her claw falling to the ground in front of Kayla.

"Mommy?" Kayla asked, no response. "Mommy?" Still none. Tears were streaming down her face as she hugged her mother's claw, the peice of it in her hand. She was soon picked up and pulled away from Eria's claw.

"Let's take you home, shall we?" Kayla's father said, holding the sobbing little girl, a smile on his face.

Kayla sighed, wiping her eyes as she felt them start to water. After that, she was taken to Deaths Storm, becoming friends with Finny and the others after a while, and Melody, once she arrived at the guild hall. The piece of Eria's claw was still with her, the lightning shaped charm that was on her necklace. She had carved it into that shape, and strung it on a black thread, looping it around her neck.

"Hey Kayla, were you crying?" Gray asked, "Did you know that dragon?"

Kayla looked at him, "Everyone in the village knew the dragon." She said, "There were offerings brought up to a certain place each month, if they were good, then the weather was good for that month, if not, there was bad weather."

"So it's sort of like worshiping a god?" Lucy asked.

"Kind of, yeah. When she died, it hit hard on all of us. I was only five when it happened."

"That must of been awful." Erza said.

Kayla looked at her, "You've probably all been through worse." She said. "It's nothing you should pity me for." She felt the train jolt to a stop and she stood up, feeling better already. She stretched, and she looked out the window, seeing familiar wooden roofs peeking out from the trees.

"Come on, let's go guys!" Kayla exclaimed with a sudden mood change. She started heading out of the coach and stepping outside, taking a deep breath of the fresh air. "I'm home." She whispered, listening to the breeze through the leaves.

Hope you guys are liking this! I've had Kayla for a while, she's gone through many changes, but I like this story a lot.

Anywho I should probably work on Two Tortured Souls... But I have no ideas for it at the moment sadly. Once I do I'll update it, don't worry.

Also, BACKSTORY! WOO! I've developed Kayla so much, and I finally get to write her story!
