Halloween
After Sabine had finished school, and Kanan had finished work, the family spent their time preparing for Halloween night. Sabine was busy getting her Halloween costume on and doing her makeup, while Hera helped Ezra look for a costume from stuff around the house. Kanan was busy adding a few decorations to the front yard.
"Hmmm, let's see what we have here," Hera said going through a pile of Kanan's old clothes. "How about a thief?"
She held up a black and white striped shirt. "We could quickly make a mask out of this old black shirt."
Ezra went up and examined the shirt. "Sure," he said in agreement. Did he love the costume idea? Not exactly, but he didn't want to make things difficult, and they were running out of time.
"Alright, go ahead and get the shirt on and I'll work on figuring out a mask." Hera picked up the black shirt and some scissors.
As Ezra headed upstairs he saw Sabine come downstairs. She was wearing a princess jasmine costume. She hurried down the stairs to show her mom.
"Well, what do you think?" she asked proudly. She did a little twirl.
Hera put the mask she was making down. "Wow! That's looks amazing!"
"Thanks!" Sabine sat down next to Hera and kept touching the pretty sparkles on her dress. "Um, I was wondering, can we order pizza?"
"Uh, sure," Hera picking up her phone. She called their favorite pizza place and ordered two pizzas. She was actually grateful for the idea, this strange sickness she was getting would come and go. Right now it was currently in effect.
Ezra came downstairs wearing the striped shirt and some black jeans. The shirt was quite baggy on him, it was Kanan's old shirt after all. At least he was comfy. When he walked up to Hera and Sabine, Hera handed him the quickly made mask. He put it on happily.
"Hera, you sure you don't want to come with us? You could a leave a bowl of candy out on the doorstep," Sabine suggested.
"I wish I could come, but I'm not feeling my best," Hera explained. "I'm sorry."
"It's alright," Sabine said with a shrug.
"Are you gonna wear a costume?" Ezra asked Hera curiously.
"I don't know." Hera smiled and folded her arms.
Sabine smiled and looked at Hera. "Please? It can be really simple?"
Hera rolled her eyes playfully. "Well, alright. Fine."
Hera got up and headed upstairs to find herself a costume. Just as she disappeared, Kanan appeared holding two boxes of pizza.
"No one told me we were getting pizza tonight." Kanan placed it on the counter and smiled.
Sabine went into the kitchen. "I talked mom into it."
"Oh, did you? Well, sounds good to me," Kanan said. He got out a few plates for everyone. "Where is Hera?"
"She's putting a costume on," Sabine explained. "Which you should too!"
Kanan shook his head and laughed. "Me? Eh, I don't have any costumes"
"We'll find you one! Come on Ezra!" Sabine said grabbing Ezra's hand and leading him away to find something for Kanan to wear.
Kanan looked shocked. It seemed that he would be wearing a costume this year. A few minutes later Ezra and Sabine came holding something Kanan instantly recognized.
"Hey, that's not a costume!" Kanan said jokingly.
"It is now," Sabine said putting the outfit on the counter. It was Kanan's old barista uniform from when he worked at Starbucks. "Oh, and you also can hold this Starbucks cup I forgot to throw away."
Kanan took the things and went to put them on.
A few minutes later, both him and Hera came out in their costumes. Kanan a barista, and Hera a pilot.
Kanan, Sabine and Ezra headed out into the night while Hera stayed home. Ezra felt as if he had some memories of doing something like this, but mostly it was a foreign concept. Foreign, but fun. It felt awkward at first, especially being with this new family, but he had never felt this happy in a long while.
They stayed out later then they should've, and ended up with more candy then they really needed, but Ezra was finally starting to feel like he was at home.
