Today will be the day.
It was a quiet night in the City of Vale as people and business slowly shutting down for the night leaving the streets deserted save for one group. They were made up of 6 men with 5 of them dressed the same, wearing black suits and hats with red ties and red tinted sunglasses each carrying a suitcase. The man in front however was different.
He was a tall man with slanted, dark-green eyes and bright long orange hair, with orange bangs covering his his right eye. He wore a red-lined with long black-pants and black shoes. He also had a small gray scarf black gloves with buckled sleeves, a bowler hat hat with a small feather tucked into the red band and was carrying a cane.
This was Roman Torchwick, master thief and one of the most dangerous men in all of Remnant and currently he was one his way towards his next job. "Ah here we are." He informed his men as they came across a dust shop called From Dust Till Dawn. 'Cute.' He thought amused as he entered the shop with the counter being run by an elder man who seemed to grow nervous upon seeming them.
Calmly walking up to the counter the man was about to speak but Roman stopped him. "ah ah, there's no need to speak you know what my associates and I are here for right." Roman asked getting a shaky nod and was just about to open the register when he heard Roman sigh. "Okay, apparently you don't know why we would come to a DUST shop at this time at night." Roman said while empazing the word dust to get his point across. The master thief then turned to his men. "Grab the dust." He ordered simply as the man opened the briefcases and got out several containers before heading over to retrieve the dust from their dispensers.
The old man was shaking by this point but Roman and seemed to be trying to control himself as he quickly placed the dust that was behind the counter into the briefcases but eventually couldn't control himself and twitched his head over his left second for a split second before turning back to the counter. Unfortunately Roman caught this and glanced over to where the man had looked.
Only to notice a figure standing by the magazine rack reading a weapon magazine. They were about 5'9 and even though they were facing Roman, the criminal mastermind was unable to see them thanks to a red cloak except for rather feminine hands with Black nail polish. Seeing how she or at least Roman was assuming it was a she for the moment was either ignoring them or some how hadn't noticed them Roman deicded to go over and scare them off. Casually walking up to them and twirling his cane he stopped when he was standing right in front of them and cleared his throat. "Hate to be a bother Red, but me and my associates are currently in the middle of a business deal and you being here put's that in jeopardy. So if you could kindly piss off, that'd be great." He finished with his best winning smile.
Only to get nothing in return.
Frowning in annoyance at being ignored and resisting the urge to slam his cane into the punk he cleared his throat again.
Only to once again get silence.
Full on scowling now he grabbed Red's shoulder tightly. "A little piece of advice Red. When someone's talking to you, it's common curtsey to reply." Roman hissed into Red's ear and was ready to hit the brat with his cane only for an intense pain to erupt from his wrist of the hand gripping Red's shoulder, and when he looked his eyes to widen in horror when he saw Red's hand crushing it.
The pain and pressure was to immense and Roman was forced to his knees as he gripped Red's hand to try and pry it off him but they had an iron grip. However all of Roman's struggling came to an end when Red spoke in a Distinctly male voice.
"You know this isn't exactly how I saw my night going." Red said in slight amusement, looking down at the criminal allowing Roman to see him properly for the first time.
"Oh and just what were you expecting..." Roman trialed off fishing for a name while Red just chuckled in amusement. "Ross." The now named Ross revealed. "Ross Rose. Nice to meet you Mr.Torchwick." Ross grinned releasing the thief's hand who immediately started trying to regain feeling in it while keeping an eye on Ross. "You know of me?" He asked with a raised eyebrow getting a laugh from the boy. "Of course I know you, I don't think there's a Huntsmen or Huntsmen in training who hasn't heard of the famous thief." Ross continued to laugh before smirking down Roman. "Never thought I'd be the one to catch you though."
Hearing this Roman couldn't hold in his snort. "Oh really, you honestly think you can beat me?" Roman asked almost incuriously. The boy might have an inhumanly strong grip, but he was Roman Torchwick, master thief, and he wasn't going to be stop by some brat with delusions of grander. "Yup, and I'm about to prove it." Ross grinned while cracking each of his fingers ready to fight. Roman simply huffed. "We'll see." Roman said simply before swinging his cane at Ross ready to beat some humility into the boy.
Only for it to pass right through him and into the magazine rack.
Roman stood there dumbfounded as he stared at his cane wondering what happened before hearing a chuckle coming from Ross. "Alright." The red themed hero said as forming his hand into a fist. "My turn." Before Roman could even blink Ross slammed his fist into the man's with such force it sent the man flying back through the glass window in the front of the shop and only stopped when he slammed into the building on the other side of the street.
Casually strolling forwards while humming a little tone he stopped at the counter where he saw the store owner and Roman's goons stood there dumbfounded. "You alright sir?" He asked getting a nod from the store owner causing Ross to grin. "Good to hear." the young man said stepping out through the window and was about to to head towards Roman when he found himself surrounded by Roman's 5 goons with all of them pointing their guns at the young man's head.
Roman chuckled seeing this as he got to his feet and dusted himself off. "Well Red what do you plan to do now?" Roman taunted as Ross slowly looked around at the henchmen before slowly raising his fist before extending a single finger. Roman raised an eyebrow seeing this. "And just what do you plan to do with that?" He asked casually though he was on guard, having experienced the boy's strength first hand. Ross in return merely grinned and muttered two words.
"Finger Pistol."
In a split second all 5 goons were on the ground clutching what looked to be bullet wounds on their chest. Roman gasped, having not even seen the boy move, but it couldn't have been anyone else as evident by the blood dripping off his finger before he bent down and wiped it off on one of the goon's jacket before standing up
"Now that the helps been taken care let's get down to business." Ross suggested with roman glaring and was about to move and strike when Ross suddenly appeared in front Roman and hit him square in the chest with a Lariat knocking the wind and some bile out of him and sending him back into the wall. However something was wrong as when Roman looked down after noticing there was something weighing him down only for his eyes to widen when saw what appeared to be iron shackles wrapped around his chest. "What the hell is this?!" He demand looking up to Ross who only smirked. "Insurance." The boy said simply as he reached down to grab the man and drag him to the nearest police office.
That all changed when the ground stated to shake and before anyone could move black, viscous, tar like substance erupted from the ground like a geyser before forming a a large pool of the substance about 50 feet away. Ross's eyes widened seeing this. 'A Grimm Pool here?!' He thought to himself his eyes going wide in surprise.
Grim pools were nothing but bad news as they were spawning points for the Grimm. No one knows what caused them or how to track them. They just started appearing one day and about 20 years ago they've resulted in the deaths of countless people. They only upside to this, was that each had a set limit to how many Grimm could be created before though that was often a moot point as there have been pools that have been reported to unleash dozens of Grimm before drying out. There was even reports of one creating close to 300 Grimm.
Luckily that wasn't the case here as after creating around a dozen Grimm the pool dried up and vanished with most of those them being Boarbatusk though the real danger came from the three Death Stalkers in the back. 'Still this is much more manageable then I thought it could be.' Ross thought as he began to walk towards the beast who were snarling or clicking menacingly at him. "Oi Red, what the hell are you doing?! Get over here, help me up and let's get the hell out of here!" Roman demanded only to be ignored by Ross who was now standing directly of the now charging Grimm hoard.
Ross just watched them approach calmly before raising his left hand as it was suddenly covered in fire and pointed it towards the Grimm. "Cremate." Ross spoke blasting and engulfing the Grimm in fire killing them instantly as they were reduced to ash.
Roman and his goons stared transfixed at what they just saw and who could blame them them? An entire pack of Grimm was taken down in an instant and by a kid no less. They were only knocked out of their stupor when Ross started walking towards Roman. "Well now that that's out of the way, let's get you to a nice and. cozy cell." He told the criminal and was about pick him up when he felt something poke him in the back.
"Why don't you let me take care of that?" A female neutral sounding voice asked behind him though by the tone it was clear it was more of an order. "Any sudden moves and I will subdue you. Now raise your hands slowly into the air and slowly turn to face me." She ordered as Ross did as she asked and that's when Ross saw it was.
Upon seeing who it was Ross felt his eyes widened. "You are.." The boy breathed quietly not being able to believe it. "Glynda Goodwitch, deputy headmistress of Beacon Academy." Glynda introduced herself. "And who might you be?" She questioned while subtly readying her riding crop in case a fight broke out. Which is why she was taken by surprise when the boy snapped to attention. "Ross Rose ma'am, second year at Signal Academy." he introduced himself with Glynda mentally sighing.
'Well that certainly explains a lot.' She thought as she looked him over and noticed he shared a lot of similarities with a former huntress including a last name. 'Plus if he goes to Signal then it's practically guaranteed that he was taught by Qrow.' she thought as she began to put the pieces together before letting out another sigh as she looked around at the damage.
'It could have been a lot worse.' She admitted to herself as she took in everything.. The widow was the only thing truly damaged and that could be fixed in a matter of seconds. The criminals were all successfully detained either by containment like Roman or through injures like the goons. Even the Grimm were taken care of taken care of in a quick and orderly fashion.
'Still.' She thought with narrowed eyes. 'He's still just in training and needs to learn when to stay out of things.' With that she raised Roman and his goons into the air before turning to Ross. "I'm afraid you'll have to come with me as well." She told the boy with the boy nodding in acceptance. "Sure thing, not like I'll be arrested."
Line break.
"Are the handcuffs really necessary?" Ross couldn't help but ask in annoyance as he stared across at Glynda all trances of awe from before gone. "I mean I know vigilantism is wrong but I thought I could get a little more trust here." He complained with Glynda sighing and rubbing the bridge of her nose in annoyance. "It was the chief of police's request. After seeing the security footage from nearby cameras he grew concerned about having you in here. This was the comprise." She explained as she walked towards him. "If it were up to me you'd be sent home with a pat on the back and a slap on the wrist!" She finished as she suddenly slammed down her ridding her crop on top of the table. Ross didn't even blink. 'Didn't need Haki to see that one coming. He thought to himself.
Before anything could be said foot steps could be heard and when the figure stepped into the room holding a glass of water Ross found himself shocked for the second time that night. "Professor Ozpin!" He shouted as he watched the legendary huntsman enter the room.
"Ross Rose." Ozpin greeted the young man before leaning in close to exam him. "You have sliver eyes." He said slowly getting a nod from the red themed boy. "uhh yeah, I got them from my mother." Ross said nervously as he played with his hair, a nervous habit he's had since he was a kid. Ozpin nodded before handing the water to Ross getting a thank you from the boy has he proceeded to drink.
"So where did you learn to do this?" Ozpin asking indicating to footage of the earlier fight that Glynda had brought up. "Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they teach students at Signal how to do that." Ozpin continued with Ross looking unsure for a moment before mentally sighing. "Since I was a kid I've had these weird dreams." He began with the two professors paying rapid attention. "They were always about these amazing people who had these mind blowing powers. Powers that made any semblance pale in comparison." In addition to that I've always had a stronger body then any human should. To the point I was able to kick a tree down when I was ten." He reveled getting wide eyes from Glynda and a thoughtful look from Ozpin.
"Still I thought the dreams were just that dreams. That is until one day when I was about 6." Ross continued. "My dad and uncle were busy and Mom was..gone." Ross said while saying the last part quietly while the teachers gave him pitingly looks, ignoring this Ross continued his story. "Any way my brother Yin and I decided to play in woods behind the house." Here Ross face took a dark look.
"However."
Flashback
"Come on Ross, you'll never catch me at this rate!" A young boy with blond hair and purple eyes shouted over his shoulder with a laugh as he ran ahead with a young Ross trying to keep up. "Calm on Yin, wait up." Ross shouted back, as like him Yin was born with an inhumanly strong body and was currently use it to his full advantage. Yin once again looked back with a grin. "Sorry little bro, but it looks like you never catch me!" He said and was just about to run faster when
SMACK.
I ran face first into a tree, the impact knocking Yin back with knock some bark of off the tree while Yin clutched his nose. "ow, ow, ow ow ow!" He complained while trying to keep tears from falling from his eyes. Though he got a little distracted when he heard snickering from behind him and turned to glare at his younger brother who wasn't even trying to hide his amusement. "Stop you jerk!" Yin demanded an embarrassed blush on his face as Ross snickered harder.
That was until the two boys heard growling.
The boys instantly frozen for a second as the growling got louder until slowly the two inched backwards until they were back to back. "Y-Y-Yin." Ross asked shaking as he looked into the forest and could see glowing red eyes staring hatefully back. "J-Just stay behind me, let you're big brother protect you." Yin replied his legs shaking but resolved to protect his younger brother.
However both of them paled when out of the trees came six Beowolves each one snarling their eyes full of hate. Before the brothers could even attempt to run one of the Grimm charged forwards its claw raised to strike and swung it down right Ross cutting him right across the chest, blood flying everywhere as the boy soared through the air until he hit a tree with a painful Thump! "Ross!" Yin yelled as he saw his brother start to bleed out from the wound but couldn't get close because he slowly had to back away. Unknown to the young blond he had a powerful orange aura covered him just as a crimson aura covered Ross.
Said red themed boy slowly regained consciousness absentmindedly putting his hand on over his wound, only to find nothing there. 'What?' he thought his mind beginning to clear before he noticed that not just his wound but also the pain had disappeared. 'What happened?' He though trying to of some way to explain this. He was knocked out of these thoughts when he noticed 3 of the Beowolves looking ready to pounce again causing the young boy to go into a panic again. 'What do I do?! What do I do?! What do I do?!' Ross thought as he tried to figure out something out as he slowly got to his feet with his back firmly against the tree.
That's when a another vision occurred, shocking him since they had only appeared in his dreams. He wanted to write it off as some fantasy but it seemed so real and it came him an idea. It was absolutely crazy and he had no idea why he was trying it, but if he didn't do anything both him and Yin were going to die. So with the a shakily hand forming a fist and the giving the best glare a terrified six year old could he took a step right as the Beowolves pounced and threw a punch.
With cracks forming in the air a split second later.
For a second the whole world seemed to come to a standstill, until finally The Beowolves where blown back by a shockwave, two of them being destroyed in the process and the third lasting until it was impaled on a tree." Ross just stood there shocked until it finally sunk in. He did it, He actually did it! He killed his first Grimm, and he used the cool powers he saw in his dreams! Yin's going to be so jealous!
'Wait a minute!' Ross thought with wide eyes. "Yin!" He shouted turning to his bother ready to rush over to and save him!
Only to find Yin standing there alone an orange glow around him and a figure behind him causing Ross to gasp as he looked at it.
The two just stared at each other unwilling to break the silence even after the glow around Yin disappeared and the figure along with it until finally they spoke in unison.
"What the heck just happened?!"
Flashback end
"It wasn't long after that Dad and Uncle Qrow showed up, demanding an explanation." Ross smiled at the memory at how furious Qrow was while Tai fretted over them. "Turns out Yin was having dreams just like I was and just didn't tell anyone, just like I did." Ross laughed getting a small chuckle from Ozpin. "After that we started training exclusively with the powers and memories we received. What ever unlocked those powers also seemed to have upgraded our bodies even more."
"Well it seems to have payed off." Ozpin nodded bringing up the records he had from Signal. "You and your brother are the top students there, even the teachers don't seem to have anything to you." Ozpin said before shaking his head. "And to think you did all of this with out Aura or a semblance." This got a shocked look from Glynda and a shrug from Ross.
"What can I say? They didn't seem necessary." Ross said simply while Ozpin had to hold back a snort at the obvious statement. "Right, so young man why do you want to become a huntsman?" Ozpin asked getting to the matter at hand. "Ross sat there for a moment looking to be deep in thought until he answered. "I don't really know." He answered truthfully. "I've got so many memories and so many different views and opinions I'm still trying to figure that as well who I am. Figured being a hunter was my best chance of that." Ross shrugged. "Besides can't think of a better way to put these powers to use then helping people." He added.
Ozpin nodded and was silent before speaking "You want to come to my school correct?" Ozpin asked getting nod from Ross "More than anything.". Ozpin looked at Glynda who gave a hesitant and reluctant nod.
"Well okay."
Line break.
"You did well today." Was the first thing he heard as he opened his eyes and took in a sight he had seen so many times before but will never get tired of.
"Well I couldn't have done it with out you and your training Ma'am." Ross told her as he turned to face the speaker.
The woman smirked. "Don't under estimate yourself, I wouldn't have taken the time to train you if I didn't see potential. Even if the training was only in your mind." She said waving off her praise. "Still you should hold your head high, Roman Torchwick was not someone to underestimate and you still managed to capture him." She smirked in pride and if Ross wasn't mistaken amusement. Ross just rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah the family was pretty shocked when they heard the news as well as Ozpin's offer." Ross chuckled as the memory. Tai was split between stress at his son willing put himself in danger and crying tears of pride at getting into Beacon early. Qrow just laughed and said he was becoming more like Summer everyday, and Yin was beyond ecstatic that his little brother was going to beacon with him.
"Yes Ozpin's offer." The woman said her smile becoming a natural look getting a raised eyebrow from Ross. "Be carful around him Ross, a man like Ozpin always has alternative motives for things like this. The woman warned. "So are you saying I shouldn't take the deal?" Ross asked getting a shake of the head from the woman. "No take the deal just keep an eye out at all times, and remember what Ive taught you." She warned Ross with nodding towards the woman who had been training him in secret.
"Of course Ma'am, I wont let you down." Ross promised before disappearing in a flash of light leaving the woman alone who started to chuckle a peaceful smile coming to her face. "I know you wont Ross, I know."
