The New Teacher
Y/N's POV
RRRIIINNGG!!!
I slung my backpack over my shoulder, walking to 2nd period, Max and Nikki at my side. "I heard there's a new teacher for English!" Nikki exclaimed, bouncing a bit.
I arched an eyebrow and looked at her. "Why, did Mr. Gomez get fired?" I asked.
Nikki nodded. "People have been saying that he was drinking alcohol on school days."
Max's face twisted up in disbelief. "Jesus Christ. That's messed up."
I shrugged. "I mean, he did seem kinda weird and out of it when he was teaching us."
Max nodded. "I guess we should've seen it coming."
By that time, we had reached the classroom. There, sitting on the teacher's desk and nervously flipping through a manual was...
"DAVID?!" Max, Nikki and I screamed in unison.
David looked up from his manual and gave a nervous wave. "Hey, gang. P-please take your seats."
The three of us stood there with our mouths agape. Then I decided to slowly saunter my way over to my seat. Max and Nikki followed my lead.
When we sat down, Nikki whispered to me, "When they said 'new teacher', I didn't think that they meant a camp counselor."
I have a humorless chuckle. "Yeah. I wonder why he didn't tell me and Max about this."
A nervous cough interrupted Nikki and I's conversation. Everyone's eyes moved to David, who was nervously scratching the back of his neck. What made me want to kill myself the most was that David never took his Camp Campbell shirt off, so he was standing in front of 30 judgmental eyes in a. Camp Campbell. Shirt.
Kill me please.
"Um...hello, class," David greeted nervously, smiling a nervous smile. "My n-name is Mr. David. And this-" he gestured to me, Max and Nikki, "-are kids that I met when I worked at the legitimate Camp Campbell. Say hello, guys."
EVERYBODY ALREADY KNEW US, THOUGH.
My cheeks heated up as everyone's heads moved towards us. I nervously glanced at Max, who had his face buried in his hands. I pointed to Nikki, signaling that she go first.
Right when Nikki was about to introduce herself, Max removed his face from his hands and began screaming at David, his face red from embarrassment. "DAMN IT, DAVID! YOU COULDN'T JUST ACT LIKE YOU DIDN'T KNOW US?!"
David did that "tsk" noise with his mouth, and he eyed Max sternly. "Max! We're gonna have a conversation about this when we get home."
Chuckles rang throughout the room and a couple "Max lives with him?"s.
Max then began to hit his head on his desk.
"As I was about to say..," Nikki said, "I'm Nikki! You guys already knew that, but who am I to disobey the teacher?"
David smiled. "Thank you, Nikki. Okay! Who's next?"
I feebly raised my hand, just to get this embarrassing moment over with. "All right! Go ahead, Miss. Y/N."
I didn't know where the sudden formalities came from, but I shrugged it off and attempted to introduce myself. "Like he said, I'm Y/N," I muttered.
"Hun, you're gonna have to speak up," David said softly.
"I'm Y/N," I deadpanned, louder this time.
David smiled, turning his head over to Max. "And lastly, Max. Come on. Introduce yourself."
"Frick off, nerds," Max growled. "But yeah. I'm freaking Max. Happy?"
David smiled. "Very! Now, we shall begin our lesson! Oh, and, Max? Mind the language, please."
I kind of just zoned out the entire rest of the class. The only words that I actually heard David say were "Latin" and "poetry".
Then, my savior rang. The bell.
I then ran out of there as fast as I could.
***
On my way to 5th period, I saw David sipping a cup of coffee in the hallway. Max was walking to class with me, so I nudged him to get him to stop walking.
"What?" Max said, stopping.
I shushed him, pointing at David.
Max's body went rigid. We then both stared slowly tiptoeing across the hall to not trigger David's super-senses.
It seemed to work well, until Preston spotted us. "Oh, hello, Max and Y/N!" Preston called to us in that adorable voice of his. "I was just wondering if you wanted to join the theater club!"
Max and I did frantic hand motions to try and shut him up, but David's green eyes had already moved to us.
R.I.P., Our Social Life.
"Oh, hello, guys! How's your day going so far?" David asked, kneeling down so he could get to our level.
(GET ON MY LEVEL🔥💯)
"It was fine until you came to our school and ruined our lives," Max muttered, rolling his aqua eyes.
"Well, my day is going swell! Let me tell you all about it!"
And, off he goes. Mission Control, we lost David.
While he was talking, Max and I managed to sneak away. He didn't even notice that we had left, so he was just a sad, lonely man talking to himself.
I made a mental note to stay away from David at all costs.
But that's not easy when you're in need.
