Chapter Seventeen: We're Coming

A few days later, class 1-A hasn't gotten over Aoyama's choice. They remain divided. Midoryia hasn't been coming out of his room, so Shinso heads up to him.

As the purple-haired boy passes other dorms. Aoyama exits his. Shinso suddenly halts. The two stare at each other silently. Shinso's eyes darken for a moment before Aoyama cowers and continues walking down the hallway with his head down. Shinso continues as well, knocking on Midoryia's door.

"Who is it?"

"It's Shinso." The boy replies, "Are you coming out anytime soon?"

"Come in."

Shinso opens the door. Midoryia sits at his desk, tears stain his cheeks and many pictures surround him. All of them have (Y/N) somewhere inside. Some are with students, teachers, and even pro heroes. Shinso sighs, touching his friend lightly on the shoulder.

"They'll be back," He says, "But I can tell that you're bothered by something else. What's wrong?"

"I-" Shinso quickly takes control.

"Don't lie to me, what's wrong?"

Midoriya goes monotone, "A little girl was taken by Overhaul as well, she's being taken apart and put back together to make quirk-destroying bullets."

Suddenly, Shinso is in his mind. The purple-haired boy watches from Midoryia's perspective as a memory plays before him. It shows Eri running into Midoriya, clearly scared. The boy's instincts kicked in. At first, he thought that the girl was (Y/N). He was slightly disappointed. Until his eyes looked up to see Overhaul.

Anger coursed through him and he held Eri tighter and refused to let her go. Togata eventually forced him to, but he felt immense grief when they had to let her go back, knowing that she'd be terrified. But the hope that (Y/N) and Eri could be saved aided him.

When both of them are back in the real world, Midoryia is freaking out.

"Oh crap, now you know what the mission is about!" He squeals, "I'll be in so much trouble."

Shinso sighs, "Calm down, I won't tell anyone. I want to help."

"How?"

"I could help the heroes by using my quirk, obviously." He rolls his eyes, "I have to be there. (Y/N) will be disappointed if I'm not."

"Shinso, you don't have your hero license."

The purple-haired boy chuckles, turning away and shutting the door, "I don't care, I'll be there."

Midoryia smiles slightly, watching the boy leave. He lays down on his bed, feeling guilty for being the main reason that (Y/N) is gone.

"Shinso?" Aizawa asks.

"Huh?" The purple-haired boy replies, "Oh, sorry."

"Are you alright?" The teacher says, "You seem distracted."

Shinso sighs, sitting down on the ground and stretching, "I miss (Y/N). I need to do something to help in finding them."

Aizawa's eyes gloss over and he looks down, "I miss them too," He pauses, "How about we bump your training up a bit? You might not be able to fight, but you can protect them when they're rescued."

So Shinso's training begins to increase.

"So, has there been any improvement since last time?" Aizawa asks.

The mind reader nods, "Today, I was able to go into the mind of Midoryia."

"That's great, but I won't believe you until I see it in action."

He charges Shinso, using his scarf to attempt a grab. The student swings under his arm, grabbing the man's waist and throwing him to the ground. Shinso makes contact with Aizawa and is transferred to his mind. Suddenly, Shinso stares through the teacher's point of view of past memories.

As if Aizawa was panicking, the memories of people flash past like a slideshow. Calming down, the teacher rests on one short memory. Shinso watches the memory with a smile. It shows (Y/N) as they run around the island in Aizawa's kitchen happily. They had a giant grin on their face, warming their hearts.

When the memory ends, the two stare at each other in silence.

"You have no clue how much I wish to just go out on my own and save them." Aizawa finally says, "But—for the best chance, I have to wait for Nighteye's call. It's best to have a lot of heroes fighting at once."

Before they can continue, Aizawa's phone rings. His eyes go wide as he reads the caller ID.

"It's Sir Nighteye."

The next day, Aizawa, Uraraka, Asui, Kirishima, and Midoryia leave UA High for their first true mission. After the call yesterday, the green-haired pro hero was already done with his briefing. The heroes gather at Nighteye's agency, waiting for the cue to go.

Secretly, Shinso sneaks inside and waits for orders.

"Who are you interning with?"

Shinso turns, startled by Togata.

"Wait, have we met before?"

"No!" The purple-haired boy replies, "I've never seen your face in my life!" He pauses, thinking, "I'm with Eraserhead."

Togata smiles, "That's great! I hear he rarely picks interns."

When all the heroes have gathered, the groups head for the main base of Shie Hassaikai. Shinso fits in for a while until Aizawa notices him.

"What the hell are you doing here?" He asks, marching over.

"I'm helping," Shinso replies, "I'm going to protect them."

Aizawa shakes his head, calling over a police officer, "Escort him aside."

"How are you today, officer?" Shinso asks.

"Oh, I'm fine-"

Shinso takes control and forces the officer to let him stay.

"There," The purple-haired boy says, "Now we have no problems!"

Aizawa smiles slightly, patting the boy on the head and turning back to Nighteye.

"This is a one-time mission," The pro hero states, "If something goes wrong, we could lose this chance to save the kids for a long time. Do your best!"

The group attempts to calmly enter with a warrant. Instead, one large member of the Yakuza group smashes through the front gate. The dragon hero and her interns fight him while the rest of the heroes rush inside.

Sir Nighteye finds the area where one of the members of the gang put in the code for the panels. He pushes them in the exact order and the villains spew out. Bubble girl and Centipede handle them as the rest carry on.

A dead-end lies ahead.

Togata checks it out and realizes that it is just a short wall block from Overhaul. So Midoryia and Kirishima are permitted to knock it down. The hallway begins to shift and warp thanks to Inrinkata's quirk. That's when Shinso notices an (F/C) object nearby. Picking it up, he realizes that it's (Y/N)'s favorite pencil. They had discovered it in Aizawa's house and refused to let it go. Seeing this without the child nearby is an immediate alarm.

Togata, of course, travels through the walls in search of the two kids. Aizawa feels heartbroken that he is unable to help. Once Togata is gone, the floor suddenly falls in.

---------------------

Meanwhile, Overhaul and his henchmen carry Eri and (Y/N) to a secret exit. For the past few days, the intelligent child has been acting kind and obeying the group so the quirk-cancelling device might come off and they could make plans to escape.

So today, they have no device.

(Y/N) uses their mind-reading quirk and searches for other brains to read. They're seeing if the heroes know where they are. There are so many that it takes child a few tries to finally access their father's.

"Dad!"

Aizawa stops in place, eyes wide.

"Eraserhead?" Fat Gum calls, "What's wrong?"

With tears running down his face, he turns, "It's (Y/N), they're calling to me."

Suddenly, the heroes feel determination rise over them. They pick up the pace.

"We'll be there soon (Y/N), just hold on."
