Chapter 15

I sit down next to Violet. "So, Violet."

"Yes, Stella?"

"Who was your friend? What was your friend like? What was the earth like?" I ask quietly.

Violet opens her mouth, then closes it. She leans back against the tree and sighs. "Alright," she finally says. "My friend, uh. I'm sorry. Ryker, Jay!"

My brothers jog up to the gem. "What is it?" Ryker asks, glancing at me and I shrug.

"Uh, would you mind going to the small pond of water over there and telling me what kind of water it is?" Violet says with a nervous grin.

Before Ryker can reply, Jay nods enthusiastically. "Sure thing, Violet!" Jay dashes away, followed by Ryker.

I raise an eyebrow at the short gem, but she smiles at me. "There isn't a pond over there." She tells me.

"Then why--"

"I didn't want them to know about this gem!" Violet exclaims with a hint of frustration in her voice. "Anyway, I'm talking about Auburn. Red Spinel."

I mentally debate if I should interrupt her or not, and quickly decide that I don't want her to get madder, so I nod.

"Now, Spinels aren't the most valuable gems out there, but Red Spinels had a certain feature to them that made them treasured on Homeworld. That was their power of persuasion."

"How is persuasion such a good power?" I ask.

"It was great in-battle. While the other, buffer gems fought, Red Spinels started talking to the enemy gems, convincing them to fight for our side or not to fight at all." Violet explains. "So the Diamonds brought Auburn to Earth so she could convince the humans to give their land to us. Auburn hated it, though."

"Why?"

"When they first arrived to Earth, they settled in a small town that was quite popular with humans. She met a human in that town, and she loved that human. The human loved Auburn, too. They were very close friends, and Auburn didn't want to take their home away from the humans. So she didn't." Violet stops talking for a few seconds to smile sadly at me. "The Diamond Authority soon got frustrated with Auburn, not understanding why she didn't do what they told her to do. Finally, the Diamonds poofed Auburn and left her behind."

I take a deep breath.

"And, eventually, Pine and I found her poofed gem. When she reformed, she was yelling about a human."

"What was the human's name?"

"The human's name... Connie."
