The Long Winding Road

2 days later, and after the blood transfusion had taken place, Lexi slowly began to wake up.

Lexi: Ugh... god, my head...

She slowly turned her head to her left and noticed her boyfriend was still asleep. As she slowly began to get to her feet, she felt a bit dizzy as she slowly staggered towards Josh.

Lexi: Please come back, Josh, we all need you... I need you...

Lexi couldn't help but break down and cry silently at the sight of her boyfriend in this condition. Still on IV's and drips and all sorts of different machines wired into him, but at least there was no tube in his mouth anymore, a sure sign that Josh was slowly recovering. Lexi then grabbed his hand and held it close to her. After a while, she went to go back to her own bed but she noticed Josh wasn't letting go.

Lexi: Joshy?

He still wasn't letting go, if anything the grip was tightening. Right on cue, the doctor arrived.

Doctor: Miss Kaufman, are you okay?

Lexi: It's Josh... I-I think he's waking up.

The doctor saw the grip she was in and she was actually right, Josh was waking up. He groaned as he felt pain all around his body, but felt it go away once he saw Lexi by his side. She was now crying tears of happiness. She could barely believe her man had pulled through.

Lexi: Oh my god, Joshy!!!

She hugged him tightly and he slowly hugged her back, without trying to cause himself too much pain.

Josh: Oh, god... what the heck happened? Where am I?

Doctor: I think it's best if your lady friend explained.

The doctor then left, leaving Josh and Lexi alone.

Josh: What happened, Lexi?

Lexi: You were hit by a car, at some speed too. You had really bad injuries, like a broken elbow, for which you had surgery for, a punctured lung and a broken ankle.

Josh: Whoa... sounds pretty bad. Still doesn't really explain why you're dressed like that though.

They both laughed slightly as Lexi then carried on.

Lexi: Apparently... y-you almost died during surgery because of the main problem... you lost a lot of blood in the crash. You needed a blood transfusion before today otherwise... you w-wou-wouldn't be here. You've helped me so many times in the past... so I figured it was time I helped you. So I gave you some of my blood, considering we're the same blood group.

Josh: Wow... I dunno what to say... you basically saved my life, Lexi. I literally can't repay you enough for that...

Lexi: As long as you're still here, with me, that's good enough for me. I love you too much to lose you... I can't imagine life without you, you make me so happy...

She cried into Josh's shoulder as he wrapped his good arm around her.

Josh: And you make me happy. You make me more than happy. You make me the happiest person in the world, full stop.

Lexi smiled at his statement and kissed him gently.

Josh: I don't really remember the crash itself, but I do remember what caused it, it was a side impact with a car who ran a red light, and the car looked familiar. The only faces I remember seeing before I blacked out was one I never want to see again... it was... Murphy and Natasha...

Lexi scolded at the mention of their names and figured that they were behind this. She gently stroked his hair as she spoke.

Lexi: I swear to god, I am going to kill Natasha...

Josh: Not before I kill Murphy first...

They both sighed before Lexi sat down on the edge of the bed, and held his hand tightly.

Josh: Ugh, I bet this whole injury means I have to give up the title...

Lexi: Yeah, I'd guess so, but don't worry. Lots of people give up their titles, you'll have it back before you know it.

Josh smiled as he stared at his girlfriend.

Josh: Whatever happens when we go back, we do it together.

Lexi: Together... forever and always.

They smiled and kissed each other once more, and just as it was getting more passionate with some tongue action, the doctor returned.

Doctor: Okay, Josh... looking at your injuries, the ankle is too badly damaged and since we can't do anything but wait for that, you will be out of action for up to 6 weeks. Thankfully, the elbow wasn't that bad, and we repaired it due to the surgery. Usually, that would take the same amount of time, but we think that with the surgery, you should be ready in about 3 weeks. As for the punctured lung, just take plenty of rest, you should be okay with that in a few days.

Josh: Okay, then how am I supposed to get around?

Doctor: By wheelchair. Once your elbow has healed, we'll move you to crutches, and then when your ankle is ready, we'll see if we can clear you.

Josh: Okay, that's good.

Doctor: In the meantime, we do recommend you stay with someone, at least until your elbow has healed.

Lexi: He'll be staying with me.

Doctor: Is that okay with you Josh?

Josh: Yeah, fine by me.

Doctor: Okay then, I'll fix you both up with your discharge papers, as well as a wheelchair for Josh.

He left leaving Lexi and Josh alone once more.

Josh: You sure you're okay looking after me?

Lexi: Of course I am, Joshy. Like I said to the girls before the transfusion, you've proven to me that you'll go to any lengths to help me, now I want to help you by looking after you.

Josh: Thanks for this. And for everything else, I appreciate it. When were the girls here?

Lexi: Literally just before they put me to sleep for the transfusion. They were shocked.

Josh: They were?

Lexi: Yeah, they were. They miss you, but not as much as I did. I still do, even though I'm right here with you now.

The doctor then returned with both their discharge papers, and a wheelchair for Josh.

Doctor: Okay, you both are free to go when you like.

Lexi: Thanks, doc.

After carefully getting him in the wheelchair, Lexi pushed Josh out of the hospital, and they both waited in the taxi ranks, waiting for a cab to take them to Lexi's house.

Lexi: You can stay at my house. I'll get the girls to drop off both our stuff.

She then took a selfie with Josh just behind her in the wheelchair.

alexa_bliss_wwe: So, as you can see, this guy has had a minor scuff... he's feeling just fine, as am I. Thanks to everyone to has sent messages of support to us, he should be as right as rain in a few weeks, and as for his return date? Wait and see...

itsmebayley: OMG!!! Thank god you're both okay! Sending lots of hugs your way!

wwerollins: Still got that cheeky smile on his face after what he's been through... one heck of a guy!

yaonlylivvonce: You pair of cuties! Here's to a fast recovery for the both of you!

After a taxi ride back to Lexi's house, they made their way inside, and Lexi's dogs and pet pig immediately came to the door.

Lexi: Hello, my babies!!!

Josh just smiled at the sight before him, and he made his way to the sofa, and clambered out of his wheelchair and relaxed. Lexi had now made her way to the kitchen and got lunch ready for him, as well as herself. When she got lunch ready, she saw Izzy and Teddy snuggled up to Josh, with Larry-Steve on the floor.

Lexi: I'll take care of you with my last breath, if I have to.

Josh: Same here... now come here...

Lexi put the plates on the table, and snuggled up next to Josh and her dogs.

Josh: Thank you... I love you.

Lexi: No need, I'd do anything for you, I love you too, my Joshy.
