Broken Lock

Heyo so uh I just wanted to clear something up tbh. If you hadn't somehow realised, yes this is a Kréme book. And uh I'm not sure how you could miss it, but there's Crossmare in it. Yes it's a side ship, and yes I'm giving it more attention than your normal side ship in a story. And that's because yes I'm obsessed with it, and honestly, I'm never in the mood to write anything other than Crossmare these days so for me to actually be asked to write this book I had to get it in. And I'll be honest, writing this book was a struggle and I don't even know why. Idk if it's cuz it's not 100% Crossmare, but inspiration to write really lacked here. Most of you seem fine with all this Crossmare, and I'm happy for that. Besides, they're a major part of the plot line, I haven't just added them cuz I want to. But still, just wanted to say all this for some reason. Um, sorry if you just came here for Kréme, but tbh I've read some books about one ship that spends like 5 whole chapters on some other random-ass ship lmao.

Jesus Christ why did I write all that?

Sorry, just keep reading pls

Please for the love of my sanity enjoy

"...ll..."

"K...ll..."

"Ki...ll...er."

"Killer..."

"Killer!"

"KILLER!"

He awoke with a jolt, his eyes flashing open and boy lurching uprising suddenly. "H-Huh?!" He gasped, panting for breath and clutching his chest.

Opposite him, Dreams anxious face broke out into one of relief and he lunged forwards, tackling him back down to the floor with a hug. "You asshole! I thought you were going to die on me!"

Killer groaned loudly, his skull ringing and vision spinning. But he managed to wrap his arms around Dream, pulling him close to his chest. "Mm, nah I'm still alive...somehow..."

And then he remembered the dogs, freezing at the memory of one locking it's jaws around his head. "H-Hey, what happened in the arena? Wh-Where are the dogs? Where are we?! Are w-we in heaven?!"

"There's no such thing as heaven shut up." Dream said, glaring up at him momentarily before pressing his face back into his chest. "And we're back in our cell."

Killer blinked, looking around. And then he did indeed notice that they were surrounded once again by the familiar rusty bars and cracking concrete walls of their cell. "But why? How?"

"The five minute bell rang out just before that thing could rip your face off... Much to everyone except my disappointment..."

"Jesus..." He looked down, his eyes resting on the smaller, who was still pressed against his chest. "You comfy down there?"

"O-Oh Sorry!" Dream squeaked, immediately pushing off of him and stumbling back, his face yellow with embarrassment.

"N-No wait that didn't mean you had to get off!" Killer protested, weakly trying to pull him back. He was certain his face had also darkened in colour a bit.

But Dream shook his head, staying a good meter away from him and looking at the ground.

"Fucking brilliant." He muttered to himself. "I just blew that chance, didn't I?"

"Hm?" Dream looked up at him.

"Nothing." He said quickly, scowling at the floor and his blood and sand covered legs.

The smaller winced, rubbing his arm that was still in a sling, his golden eyes seeming duller than usual. "Hey...the dogs didn't hurt you, did they?"

Killer didn't look up, snorting. "Apart from the guaranteed teeth marks on my skull, no. I'm fine."

"O-Oh...good to know..." He mumbled, looking away.

"What about you?" Killer looked up at him, his eyes focusing on the long gash on his leg that he quickly covered. "Does that hurt?"

"N-No!" He said quickly, shaking his head and laying an arm over it. "I-It's fine..."

Both of them went quiet, a painfully awkward silence washing over their dark cell as they both stared at the floor. It was almost as if they were ashamed of their own stupid actions.

"H-Hey Killer..." The smaller's was cut off suddenly as a loud bang rang out, scaring the life out of the two skeletons and making them whip around.

Walking through the main entrance to the dungeon, Horror walked through with another figure behind him. "You knew you'd loose that Error, I don't know why you even bothered."

"Shut it Horror, he'll take down Nightmare's dogs one day. Didn't you see, he fucked one of them up!"

"Yeah, the fucking runt. Even that pathetic mortal could take that one on." Horror barked a laugh, dropping his axe suddenly to the floor and pulling out some keys. "Anyway, you know the rules. If he looses, he spends the night in the dungeons, mainly so he doesn't drip more blood around the castle."

The tall figure called Error muttered something under his breath before nodding and letting out a shrill whistle.

Killer and Dream stayed completely still, watching as a large dark wolf-like creature stalked through the doorway, it's tongue hanging out and panting.

It looked like one of Nightmare's dogs, a bit smaller than the alpha. It's fur was dark and matted, covered in long scratch marks, both scars and deep and fresh. A heavy spiked collar was clamped round its neck, looking equally bloodied and beaten. The main difference though was it's eyes. Instead of icy blue like Nightmares, they were crimson red, looking more demon-like. It glared at them, peeling back it's lips to show those needle-sharp yellowing teeth.

"Fluffy down." Error growled.

But the dog didn't listen, suddenly springing at the cage and throwing itself against the bars, making both Killer and Dream scream.

It lashed out, it's sharp claws almost hitting Killer in the side as he sprang back with the same energy as a frog.

"FLUFFY!" The dark skeleton yelled.

Immediately the demon stopped, a low whine escaping its throat as it trudged shamefully back to its master.

"Bad dog." He hissed, pointing in a cage a few rows away from Killer and Dream.

The dog huffed, glaring harshly at the two once more before limping into its cage and collapsing to the ground, panting and resting on its side.

"I'll never understand why you called that thing something as stupid as Fluffy." Horror muttered, shaking his head and locking the cage door. "I think it's retarded."

"Nah, the idea is that I say I have a dog called Fluffy and whoever I'm talking to imagines a small poodle before bam! They see my demon." He said, slapping Horror on the back as they walked back over to the main door.

"Still retarded." Horror said, slamming the door shut behind them.

The two could be heard for a little longer, arguing down the corridor as they went.

Killer sighed loudly, glaring at door way in the distance. "If only we had a way to escape this cage..."

And then something happened that only ever happens in predictable films and cliché books; Killer noticed something wrong with their cage lock.

He blinked, lurching to his feet and stumbling over, his eyes immediately widening. When the demon had lunged at their door, it's claws had ripped right through the lock, rendering it useless. "Holy shit..."

Dream watched in surprise as Killer slowly pushed the door open, a wicked grin forming on the taller's face as he looked back at him.

"You know what this means?"

"Uh..."

"We can escape!" He jumped up in the air momentarily, laughing. "We can book it out of here!"

"No, not without my soul we can't." Dream muttered, coughing dryly. "We'd have to find that first..."

"Well c'mon then!" He stepped out of the cell, ignoring the demon's stare.

Dream nodded softly, biting his bottom lip as he tried to stand up. Immediately the gash in his leg stung like crazy and he cried out, falling right back down to the floor and whimpering.

Killer rushed to his side, frowning in concern. "I thought you said it didn't hurt!"

He winced, giving him a pained and guilty look. "Sorry..."

The taller buried his face in his hands, groaning. "I can't carry you, and we'd surely get caught if I supported you out of here..."

Dream looked down at his hands, refusing to meet his stare. "Go without me... But don't leave fully. Just look for my soul, if you locate it, come straight back and we'll figure out what to do after, Okay?"

Killer went silent for a moment before nodding, his hand reaching out and squeezing Dream's shoulder softly. "I'll be back before you know it, okay?" He turned, stepping out of the cell before slowly pushing the barred door shut again.

"W-Wait Killer!" He called before the taller walked off. "B-Be back within an hour, okay?"

"Make that two." He called, already walking over to the main door.

"Killer no!"

"Relax Dream, I'll be fine!" He called, slipping out the slightly ajar main door before creeping up the large flight of stairs that came right after.

He felt guilty for leaving Dream, but this was an opportunity they couldn't miss. They'd be stuck down there in that cell for eternity if they didn't do something. That or be ripped apart by those horrible dogs.

Killer shuddered, peaking his head round the corner of a hallway as he got to the top of the stairs, his soul pounding like crazy. "C'mon Killer, you've got this."

———————

It had been just over an hour and a half, and Killer had found nothing. He'd searched at least one whole half of the castle, dodging guards and servants every three minutes.

He was currently walking down a dark corridor, glancing at all the dark paintings hung up depicting mainly sacrifices and war.

But then suddenly he froze, hearing the sound of two voices. He pressed himself against the wall, holding his breath. Just to his luck, whoever was walking towards him stopped, their voices lowered to hushed whispers.

Killer frowned, planning on staying put. But then one of the voices said something, making him freeze.

"I-Is something wrong, Nightmare?"

He immediately slid along the wall, right to the very corner. Nightmare was there, and someone else. Maybe listening in on them could help him.

Breathing in shakily, he peered around the corner to see none other than the God himself and the mortal. He narrowed his eyes, looking closely at them.

Nightmare was looking down at him, smirking and cupping the mortal's cheek in his hand. The smol looked up at him weakly, his face slightly purple. The chain attached to the collar around his neck was taunt, Nightmare pulling him closer.

"N-Nightmare?" He stuttered, looking up at him and shivering as Nightmare's other hand wrapped around his waist.

Nightmare chuckled, rubbing his cheek softly. "Yes, Cross?"

The smol gulped, subconsciously pushing himself up on his toes to get closer to Nightmare's height.

The taller chuckled softly before tugging on his leash, pulling him into a kiss.

Killer almost choked in surprise, his eyes widening as he watched the mortal cling to him, slipping his arms up around the back of Nightmare's neck.

He watched as Nightmare walked forwards, pushing Cross back until he was pinned against the wall. The two pulled back occasionally, whispering softly to each other before kissing again.

The smaller panted, pressing closer to Nightmare as the kiss deepened. He gasped softly, Nightmare's hand squeezing his hip tightly. Immediately, the taller shoved his tongue into the smol's mouth, growling possessively.

Killer was in absolutely shock, watching as the two continued to aggressively make out. Nightmare was with a mortal? Surely that can't happen.

Eventually, the two pulled back for air. The mortal was panting heavily, his eyes half lidded and drool leaking down his chin. He looked in an absolute daze.

Nightmare on the other hand only panted softly, smirking as he gently wiped the drool away from the smol's chin with his sleeve. They both whispered something to each other, kissing quickly again before stepping away and glancing around.

Killer immediately hid back behind the wall, his soul pounding in his chest. Dream needed to know about this.
