[Character Q & A]

Q: When is this story set?
A: As you can probably tell by the setting and the lack of technology, this story is set sometime in the 1800s.

🌻 Joy 🌻

Q: Why are you keeping it a secret that you're dating Christopher?
A: To be honest there is no particular reason. We thought it would perhaps be frowned upon by the school, as Christopher helps to caretake of the school property, despite having graduated last year.

Q: How did you and Christopher first meet?
A: It happened during the spring ball. I was feeling rather overwhelmed by all the chatter so I stepped outside and sat on the tree stump for a breath of fresh air. Christopher, for the same reason, had also wandered outside, and he happened to come by the tree stump, bumping into me. We chatted amiably for the rest of the evening and ended up having our own impromptu dance under the moonlight.

Q: What happened to your parents? (I don't think they have been mentioned in this book so far)
A: My parents, Amelia and James Stockil, are doing well. I live with them and I couldn't ask for more caring, loving parents. I have not mentioned them before merely because they are not essential to my love life.

Q: How did you fall in love with Christopher?
A: As I mentioned before, we first met during the spring ball. I do not know the exact moment... but there was just a certain something in his manner, a warmth, that immediately caused my heart to flutter. But I believe it was when we danced together that I completely fell for him.

Q: Do you know why your parents named you Joy? If you do then why?
A: My parents named me Joy because they wanted me to be a positive person and hoped that I would spread joy everywhere I go.

Q: Why do you dance with Christopher at night?
A: Because when we first met we danced together under the moonlight.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I am a caretaker at Oakfield School and also help out on my family's farm. I enjoy horse riding and fishing, though of course my most favourite pastime is dancing with Joy.

Q: Who made the first move, you or Joy?
A: Of course I did! How could I not when she is so cheerful and beautiful?
(Remember that girls never made the first move in this time period)

Q: How does the moon wake you up?
A: I am rather light-orientated. When I retire for the evening I leave my curtain slightly open, so when the moon shines in I am woken up

Q: Do you have friends? If so what are your friends names?
A: Well of course I have friends, jolly good ones too. Their names are William, Benjamin and Archibald. Though they often go by the nicknames Will, Ben and Archie.

Q: Does Joy talk about her friends when she is with you?
A: Yes, we always tell each other about our days, so she often mentions her friends.

Q: Do you talk about your friends with Joy?
A: Of course, she loves to hear of me and my fellows little adventures.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes, I have a sheepdog called Windsor whom I have had since he was a puppy. He is very intelligent and keeps me company when I am working.

Q: How long have you been dating Joy?
A: I have been courting Joy for nearly a year.

🌹 Grace 🌹

Q: How did you and Joy become friends?
A: Our mothers are close friends and they often had tea together, so it is only natural that Joy and I also came to be in one another's confidence.

Q: How do you feel about Caspian?
A: Caspian... what can I say? He is undoubtedly handsome and absolutely charming in both manner and speech. I must admit that his presence leaves me rather flustered at times.

Q: Do you have any siblings?
A: I do. A younger sister called Faith.

Q: What's your favourite animal?
A: I have always loved how graceful Deers are. In fact, I quite flatter myself that I am equally as elegant as they.

Q: Why did you make up a language with Joy? Just for fun or so no one could understand?
A: There was no particular reason for our personal language. I suppose we did it for both fun and privacy.

Q: Have you met Joy's lover yet?
A: I have seen him around a few times at school, although I have never had the pleasure of speaking with him. However, Joy talks about her 'dear Christopher' so much that I cannot help but feel as though I am well acquainted with him.

Q: Are you friends with Joy's other friends? If not do you have many other friends beside Joy?
A: Yes, I am also acquainted with Cassandra, Genevieve and Esmeralda.

Q: What is your favourite food
A: Gosh, what a hard question. I am a huge fan of all food. Though I guess if I were to choose just one... my favourite food is a good lamb roast.

Q: Why did you give Joy flowers?
A: Well why not? She appeared a pleasant, pretty girl. I quite mistook her ignoring of me as an encouraging sign that she was smitten with me, as is the fashion that young ladies of her era are apt to do.

Q: What do you think of Joy?
A: I think she is a pleasant, pretty girl. Though she certainly has a stronger temper than I gave her credit for.

Q: What do you think of Grace?
A: As her name suggests, she is a very graceful, elegant, well mannered girl. Very pretty as well.

Q: What kind of person do you think you are, personality wise?
A: I consider myself to be a very charming, handsome man whom many ladies consider attractive.

Q: Why did you move schools?
A: Because my father found work in Oakfield village and we had to move our whereabouts.
