Chapter Three: Best Friend's Secrets
As I walked out Grace fell into step beside me. Now, Grace and I were the best of friends, had been inseparable since birth, often able to read each others minds and having made up our own language. She caught my eye and then shifted her eyes with a slight nod of the head towards the benches. Translation: we need to talk in private. We both casually made our way over and made sure no one was in ear shot.
"Hali Grace, hatte trube ye?" I said, greeting her and asking what was troubling her. She smiled and responded, giving me a hug,
"Yev eben tih yer lorve agi". I blushed slightly as I translated her words to mean: 'you've been with your lover again'.
I looked down and nudged a rock with my toe, before answering
"Ua". Then I added, with a shy smile
"Ew karsd"
"Hatte?" Exclaimed Grace, a broad smile yet a look of astonishment at my revelation that we had kissed.
"Joy Imi seh haper orf ye". I gave a slight sigh of relief at her reply of "I'm so happy for you". I had been worried that she might not have approved. A thought struck me and I briskly grabbed her arm, saying with a firm voice
"Ye musten tal enican!"
"Ua, ua fo carse net!" Grace quickly reassured me that she wouldn't tell anyone. I released my grip and smiled,
"Ua, fo carse net, saret kaper" she flushed at the compliment, for I had called her 'secret keeper' a name for only the best and most trustworthy of friends. Giving me a final hug and a wiggle of stifled happiness, we departed.
