11 - 'Til Death Do Us Part
"Shame about her", a voice said outside, making Hyde growl because he knew exactly who it was and why she was here. "Such a pretty face. And she was really scared too; it was classic". Keres leaned on the doorframe and stared at him the way Hyde used to with Bella, and a long smile appeared on her face.
"Got any more friends I can play with?"
"Bring her back", Hyde answered.
"Who said I could ever do that?"
"Olalla".
"You should know by now that Olalla lies", she lulled, and Hyde shoved her outside. Shrugging off her jacket to reveal a sleek, sequined dress, she extended her claws and snarled. "Face it, she gave you false hope". She threw her claws so they left a long scratch on his face, but Hyde didn't even flinch at it.
"Is that really the best you can do?"
"Oh, this really isn't". In her hand she conjured up a swirling, purple orb of energy and threw it at him. It hit him square in the chest and made him fly back into Bella's bedroom. A long crack appeared in the wall where he landed, and he glared at her as she strode over to him. She tried to get past the doorway, but couldn't. Hyde smiled, seeing her annoyance at not being able to get to him. According to the Jezequel book, vampires cannot enter a household without invitation. And this vampire definitely hadn't been invited. As she was distracted, Hyde reached up onto Bella's dresser and picked up a long chain from her jewellery box, hiding it in his pocket. "Now as much as I would like to stay here and chat, I've got to get going". She flicked a penny so it fell at his feet and a wicked grin arose across her cheeks. "Here's something towards the funeral". The familiar cloak of purple energy floated around her shoulders and she swiftly started to teleport, but Hyde was too quick.
"Here's something towards your funeral", he quipped and leapt towards her, grabbing her arms as they teleported away. It was a funny sensation, not painful, but almost felt like all his skin was being ripped off. They materialised in a room unlike all the others in Tenebrae's HQ. Well, it was to be assumed that that's where they were. It was almost cylindrical, metal, with no windows; just a door at one end. Keres had been knocked to the floor, so Hyde took the opportunity to strike. Holding the chain in his hand, he wrapped it around her neck and she screamed as the skin on her neck burnt. It was silver, of course it was. Hanging on it was a crescent moon shaped pendant, which he slid off it.
"Last chance. Bring Bella back", he hissed, holding up the pendant next to her face.
"Your little trinket doesn't frighten me, dear. You'll have to try harder than that, I'm afraid".
"So be it".
In an instant, Hyde was pressing the piece of moon-shaped metal against Keres's exposed shoulder. The vampire inhaled sharply at the white-hot pain that radiated from the point of contact, but did not scream. When he stepped back, there was a red raw burn in the shape of the crescent where it had touched her. "I told you, I can't bring her back. No, no, I won't do it", she whispered.
"Everytime you say no to me, I touch your skin with the silver. You may be able to heal, but I can burn you to ashes with this. Bring her back". His expression was calm, but his eyes betrayed his boiling rage.
"No".
He pressed the burnished metal to Keres's flesh a second time. The Vampire Queen set her jaw in an effort not to cry out. After a minute, he removed the pendant, leaving a burn identical to the first one, contrasting against her pale skin. Hyde still held the chain around her neck, which left a collar of scarlet around her throat.
"I've got all the time in the world, really I have. And don't think for a second that I would show you mercy. For Bella, I would burn every city down to show her the lights. So, resurrect her?"
"No".
Burn
"No".
Burn
"Feel like bringing her back yet?"
"No"
Burn
She leant back against the chain around her neck, and then jumped forwards, a red hot sensation on the back of her neck.
"I know you can do it, so bring her BACK!" Hyde shouted, tightening the chain on her throat.
"There's just one problem", she smiled, and she went so close to Hyde that she could taste the liquor on his breath. "I. Don't. Want. To".
She then bit her lip, her eyes fluttering in an innocent manner, and Hyde snarled. He ripped off the chain and she sighed quietly with relief.
Slowly, he turned away, hunting in his pocket, and he eventually found what he was after. He had stowed it away in his pocket for a short while after he 'borrowed' it from Olalla: a silver bullet pistol. He didn't want to use it, but, given the circumstances, he had no choice. Hyde started to walk away, and he could hear the tap-tap-tap of Keres's heels on the metal floor. Clicking the barrel into place, he turned around to face Keres, and without another thought, shot a bullet of silver into her abdomen. She collapsed to the ground, still alive, but in more pain than you could imagine. He turned around to go and she cried out.
"Please, please, help me", she begged, wrapping her arm around herself as a black pool of blood spread across the floor.
"There's just one problem", Hyde retorted. "I. Don't. Want. To". And without another word, he shut the door behind him and headed down the corridor. Keres's screams echoed behind him, but he just carried on, knowing now that Bella had been avenged.
But resurrecting her now was harder than ever...
