Memories & Dreams pt. 1 || Chapter 10
The entire day was spent with Mrs. Morg explaining all the type of colors to Alice. It was confusing, but Alice tried to remember what color did what. Including hers.
"Alright kids, wrap it up!" Yelled Mrs. Morg.
Kids from all stations gathered there things, as they headed back in front of the classroom. Mrs. Morg then pressed the button on the side of the wall as she transformed the room back in its original form. She then turned to Alice.
"Go back to you're seat, and I'll assist you in a bit."
Alice nodded, and went to go sit in the back of the White's. She waited for Mrs. Morg to say something, but she was just standing in the middle of the class, staring back at them. Then suddenly she spoke.
"You all did wonderful today. I'm sorry if I couldn't do my proper teaching, since we had a new recruit on such short notice. But hopefully tomorrow will be different. You all may be released." And with that said, all kids from different rows got up and began leaving.
She just sat at her desk, unknowing of what she's suppose to do. That was until Mrs. Morg approached her desk way in the back.
"Alice, do you know where you're suppose to be at?" She asked her.
"Um...no I do not."
"Well no worries, I'll give you instructions. Now since you're a White, you have to go to the White dorms. Do you know where that's located?" She paused to ask her.
"No." Was the only thing she could say at her question.
Before Mrs. Morg could explain further to her, out of nowhere, Winston and Max stood at her desk with heaving breathes.
"We can take her!" They both said in nearly a yell.
Alice just looked at them surprised, while Mrs. Morg just gave a stern look.
"I have to say, that that was absolutely rude of you two to approach us in such a manner. But..." She paused as she cleared her throat. "Since you both offered to take her, I don't see a problem with that."
Alice watched as she slowly strode away, as if she was the fairest of all humanity.
"Alright then. Follow us." Winston said.
She hesitantly stood up and began walking with both boys. Just as they were about to exit the door, she called after them.
"Don't get her into any trouble you hear?"
"We won't." Max said in an annoyed tone.
She must of didn't notice Max smartness, which was good on his behalf. If she did, she knows it wouldn't end so well for him. As they walked briskly down the hallway she remained silent. She was kinda shy when it came to meeting new people.
"So...Alice I wasn't quite finished talking to you earlier." Max said as he walked a bit close to her for her discomfort.
"Oh?" She said to him, as she tried to remember what he was talking to her about.
"I asked you where was you from. Do you mind telling me?" He asked her.
She looked down at the ground as she thought long and hard. She realized she couldn't quite remember anything at the moment. Its like every since she's arrived here in this strange world, her memory was acting funny. All she wanted to know, was why couldn't she remember?
"I don't remember..." She said honestly.
Max just gave her a funny look. "What do you mean you don't remember, that's-
He got cut off from Winston nudging him hard in the side. She watched as he gave him a strange look, before he nodded.
"Never mind, that I said anything." Max said with a frown.
Alice just looked over at Winston, wondering what did he do that for.
"How does it feel being a White?" Winston asked, quickly changing the subject.
She stared him strangely, before answering."It's kinda confusing. I don't really understand none of this." And she was really telling the truth.
"Don't worry, you'll eventually understand why you're really here. It takes time for new recruits to adapted to this reality." He explained to her.
The way he spoke, made him sound so knowledgeable. She couldn't help but wonder what was he? His suit was after all grey, and she don't think Mrs. Morg explained that color to her.
"What are you?" Her voice came out as a whisper, but she knew he had to heard what she said.
"I'm a Seeker. I'm destined to know all the knowledge there is." Winston says with pride.
"Don't you mean destined to be the nerdiest guy ever?" Max joked.
Winston just scoffed, "Nothing wrong with being smart."
They came to a stop. They all stopped in front of a case of stairs. But not just any ordinary stairs; floating stairs. Each stair was slightly floating in mid-air, and kept getting higher until it reached the top. Alice just took a step back.
"Whoa..." She said in shock.
She watched as Max started hopping on the steps like some little kid.
"Hey Alice look at me!" Max said as he took the steps two at a time. "Its completely harm-...whoa!" He lost his footing and fell on the side of the stairs. It wasn't a high fall, but if it was he could have been seriously hurt.
"You're doing nothing, but scaring her more you idiot." Winston said, as he was tired of his friend's childish ways.
"Never knew stairs could float." Alice said as she just stared at them.
"That's not even all. There's so much more besides floating stairs." He said as he hopped on a step.
"Like what?" She asked.
He kept going up a few stairs. "Interesting things, that would practically blow you're mind. Now.." He reached his hand out to her. "We should probably get you to you're dorm."
She shook her head. "I am not getting on those."
"Come on its safe. Just because Max fell don't mean you won't. He was just being Max."
"I heard that!" Max said as he came walking towards them, rubbing his soar shoulder.
She slowly took his hand, and stepped on the first stair. When she let go of his hand she started walking up them deadly slow.
"Okay...this don't seem quite as bad." She said as she stepped on another step.
"Told you, now let's get moving." He replied. He started taking the stairs two at a time until he reached the top.
Alice was still near the bottom and tried to speed up her pace. Max wasn't too far behind her either, as she kept hearing his painful moans. Just as she was about to step on the last step, she somehow lost her balance and felt herself about to fall. Before she could, Winston reached his hands out and caught her by her waist. The move was unexpected, and she couldn't stop the nervousness that washed over her. She heard Max cleared his throat and turned to look at him.
"You two love birds can finish staring at each other later, but can we just please move along?" Max groaned as he tried to move past them.
Winston immediately removed his hands and stepped aside from the entrance. "Ugh...its not like that Max."
"Sure..." Max mumbled, earning him a punch in the arm from Winston.
Alice just tried to forget what happen and followed after them. When they made it to the White dorms, Winston spoke up.
"Were here. But we need to go to the office here to get you're key and know you're room number."
"And where's that?" Max asked.
"Right over there." Winston pointed to a big large white door next to the dorm doors.
Winston was the first one to walk over and knocked on the door. And in that instant, a tall man in white came out. His gaze grew sharp as he looked Winston up and down.
"Why you're no Traveler. What's the meaning of you're presence?" The man asked.
Winston pointed towards Alice. "Sir, she's a new recruit. I was instructed to bring her here."
The tall man just looked at Alice, before motioning for her to come forward. She did as told and stood next to Winston.
"And what is you're name?" He asked her. His eyes seemed to lighten up when he saw her.
"Allison Paige." She said to him.
The man just smiled at her. "Step into my office if you may."
Alice looked at Winston and Max both, before going into the office. They were going to go in after her, but the man stopped them.
"I'm sorry, but only she is needed. I hope you two understand."
Both boys had frowns on there faces, but nodded in response.
"We'll see you around Alice." Said Winston.
"Yeah we'll see ya." Max said with a goofy wave.
She smiled slightly at them, before the man closed the door. She turned around to look at his office. She expected his office to be all white, but to her surprise it looked like an original office. It had blan shady colors. She watched the man go behind his desk and typed some things in on his virtual computer.
"I would ask you questions, but it is awfully late. It would have to wait. But instead I'll just take you to you're room." The man said.
"For now, let me see you're PC."
Alice digged in her pocket and handed him her card. He took it and pressed it onto the computer screen. He pulled the card back.
"It looks like you're in room two-thirty-four with Nhung Huynh. I'll show you the way. Oh, and my names Mr. Lent." Lent said as he handed her card back to her.
She took it and waited on him patiently. When he was done with the computer he handed her another, but smaller card.
"This is the key for you're dorm. Keep it with you always." Lent said with a strict tone, but he soon smiled again.
"Now let's get you settled. Right this way." He walked into the hallway.
Alice didn't knew he left out that fast, and hurried after him. Mr. Lent to her seemed okay, but he looked to be as strict as Mrs. Morg. Maybe even stricter with a look like his. Mr. Lent didn't do much talking with her, but would only ask her small questions at the most. While she tried her best to answer as simple as she could. People has been asking her too many questions already. She would like to be at rest with them for now. Mr. Lent stopped in front of a white solid door. The numbers engraved in the door was exactly, two-thirty-four. She watched as he gave a slight, but loud knock to the door.
It was awhile before the door open, revealing a short girl with long black wavy hair. She looked as if she was Vietnamese by the way her eyes slanted a bit around the edges. The girl smiled at them, as she looked at Mr. Lent in question.
"Hello Nhung, I'm sorry if I disturbed you, but this couldn't wait. I'd like you to meet Allison. She's going to be you're roommate for now on." He explained, as he pushed Alice to meet her.
Alice didn't know what to say, so she just waved at her. "Hey."
"Hello Allison, its nice to meet you. I'm Nhung." Nhung said with a wave of her own.
