who'd you rather

Before you start reading, I just wanted to say that this isn't necessarily connected to the celebrity crush imagine series, but it's about what it would've been like if Y/N / you were the guest on The Ellen Show and your celebrity crush on Joshua was revealed instead of vice versa. That's it—enjoy!!

💭

"Our next guest plays Y/C/N, the new, mysterious teenage vigilante in the upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, please help give a warm welcome to Y/N L/N!"

The crowd cheered making you grin bashfully as you appeared on stage. You waved gratefully and blew little kisses towards the crowd while you approached the infamous white Ellen chairs.

You chuckled a little at the roaring cheers you received from the audience as you reached Ellen, who greeted you with a warm hug. "You look fantastic!" Ellen praised once the music cut off and the noise subsided.

She commented on the cheers received from the crowd when she arrived on stage and immediately followed up with a mild question that would ultimately lead up to the main segment of the interview.

"I haven't seen you since Marvel announced that you were going to be in their new Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier! How have things been going for you since then?"

"Yeah! It's been a while, but things have been going great. I mean, I get to travel around the world with some of the best people I know and promote this project that I'm so proud of, it's truly been a dream." You answered confidently with a professional Hollywood smile.

You had done other minor roles here and there, but this series was what gave you your 'big break'. It took a little while to get used to all the attention and recognition you received, but with amazing cast mates like Anthony and Sebastian who had been doing this for a while, you had learned how to gracefully handle being in the spotlight and embrace your sudden rise to stardom and stay humble while doing so.

"I imagine so! I remember just a year ago when you were on the show, you were so timid and now you're so confident and I can tell that during the past year you've really grown out of your shell." Ellen admitted truthfully. You clasped your hands together and smiled gratefully at the host, allowing her to continue. "You were telling me backstage earlier that it took you all 7 months to film this first season—I assume it's been a busy year for you?"

You let out a approving hum. "It's been a really hectic year, a couple months after filming we had reshoots and now we're on this press tour and the series is coming out in just a few weeks—it's surreal to think back to our first day." You passionately rambled.

"So I assume you're not dating anyone at the moment?" Ellen began. You could practically feel everyone's eyes on you as they awaited your—quite boring—answer.

"No, I'm not dating anyone right now—It's not that I'm busy I just don't know how to date." You admitted. Ellen tilted her head questioningly.

"You don't know how to date, how old are you?"

"I'm nineteen, about to be twenty. I'm nineteen and three quarters." You spoke matter-of-factly as you held your index finger in the air. "Let me rephrase, it's not that I don't know how to date—I'm just really.. awkward? I don't know how to explain it."

"Well, we're going to help you find someone to date." You furrowed your eyebrows inquisitively but nodded along anyways. "Because at some point, you're going to have to date. You're beautiful, you're smart, kind, independent, and you're funny."

You blushed at the compliments and stared at your lap for a moment. "Ellen, are you asking me out on a date?" You wiggled your eyebrows towards Ellen, earning chuckles from the audience.

"No, Y/N. I'm married." You giggled and nodded, your face feigning heartbreak before you turned your head to look at the small screen across the stage that she was gesturing towards. "So let's play 'Who'd You Rather?'!"

Ellen went on to explain how the game is played and you listened intently. "We're going to put up two faces on the screen and you're gonna pick, okay? You've gotta be honest."

You pulled a loose strand of hair behind your hair and nodded as the first pair appeared on the screen. You laughed loudly in amusement when you noticed that it was your costars faces on screen.

"Anthony or Sebastian? I love them both so much!" You began, glancing at Ellen and at the audience. "They're both like family to me—Sebastian has a girlfriend and Anthony already has children—I don't know which one to choose!" Ellen narrowed her eyes as she observed your face contort while you concentrated.

You knew neither of them would be offended by your answer, so without further discussion, you stuttered out an answer that had the audience cheering. "Even if it's just a platonic relationship, I believe we can have a nice companionship together."

(Comment who you chose, I literally had so much trouble choosing between them that I've just decided to leave it up to you👀)

Next, a picture of Zendaya appeared, taking up the empty space. Almost immediately, you answered. "Zendaya. 100%."

Ellen's eyebrows lifted curiously at how quick you answered compared to the last one, but moved on. After about 5 minutes of the game, Ellen began to realise you were taking this game much more seriously than intended. Unlike most of her guests on the show, you were really putting thought into your answers and thinking out loud before you chose someone.

"Y/N, you're so bad at this game." Ellen sighed. "Remember, this is pretend. It's not really gonna happen."

As the game continued, the choices kept getting harder to choose from. Now, you had to pick between Sadie Sink and Joshua Bassett.

"You see, I've never met Joshua before. My best friend Dara Renée—who's backstage right now, she stars in another Disney Plus series with him, she says he's very kind." You played with your earring subconsciously as you admired Joshua's picture. "I have to admit, I do have a bit of a crush on him though."

You bit your bottom lip nervously as you pondered your decision once more. The audience's cheers filled the studio. "So Joshua?" Ellen interrupted your thoughts.

"Well, Joshua is also nineteen, he has an amazing voice, we have a mutual friend—his hair.." You paused and tilted your head, staring at Joshua's light brown eyes. It was a no-brainer. So what if people found out about your celebrity crush?

"Yeah, Joshua Bassett. I'm so sorry Sadie!" You pouted and blew a kiss at one of the cameras. Ellen hummed, relieved the game was nearly over. You stuck with Joshua for the next few rounds, claiming that you both could have a beautiful companionship together, even though secretly you were hoping for something more.

"We had one last one for you, but based off of your last answer, I think we know who our winner is." Ellen began to wrap up the segment, but you interrupted her and waved your hand.

"No, this is fun! Let's do the last one." You grinned politely and since there was still time left, the crew complied and placed the final celebrity picture up next to Joshua's.

Tom Holland.

Your hands gripped the sides or the armchair and you dramatically swooned over the male. The audience made a 'ooh' noise as they watched you fawn over the picture of your favorite celebrity.

"I mean.." You threw your hands up and shrugged. "I've gotta choose Tom Holland. He's just so.. dreamy. Everything about him is just," You brought your right hand up and pinched your fingers together, kissing them, and releasing them in a dazed manner. Chefs kiss. "Perfect."

Ellen's eyes widened and you tilted your head questioningly at her. "Well, I guess you ended with Tom." Ellen spoke less enthusiastically than before. You focused on Ellen's nervous expression.

"Why does everyone seem so sad? It's Tom Holland." You deadpanned, expecting a couple chuckles but the studio was silent.

"That's because we're all kind of disappointed. But not as disappointed as him." You furrowed your eyebrows and peered behind you, only to find no one there. As your head craned back towards the front, two hands slowly lifted the top of the box in between the chairs from the inside, revealing a very solemn looking Joshua Bassett.

"Surprise?" He spoke out as more of a question as he set the lid of the box on the floor and stepped out. You stood up awkwardly and gave Joshua a delicate hug. Embarrassed wasn't strong enough of a word to describe how you were feeling.

Usually, this was the moment when the audience started clapping and Ellen started to make jokes or greet him, but all that could be heard throughout the set were murmurs from the crowd and the crew, who were trying to decide whether they should stop recording and edit out the last part of the segment or not.

"Ellen, I told you I was awkward!" You buried your head in your hands and let out a frustrated groan. "Has he been in there this entire time?" You whispered, as if he wasn't sitting beside you.

Joshua nodded and Ellen grimaced as she watched you attempt to keep the conversation going somehow. "I'm so sorry. How did you guys even know that I'd choose him?"

Simultaneously, Joshua and Ellen answered, "Dara Renée." You clenched your jaw and slapped the palm of your hand against your forehead. You were going to strangle her for this.

"Of course she did. I—Uh, if it makes you feel any better.. I still think you're really handsome and you have an amazing voice."

Joshua dismissed your attempt at an apology with a wave of his hand and shrugged sheepishly at you. "Thank you, that means so much coming from you. I can't wait to watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The trailer looks amazing—you look amazing in it."

Ellen's grimace slowly transformed into a satisfied grin as she watched you and Joshua dive into a comfortable conversation with each other.

"Joshua," Ellen interrupted after noticing a crew member on the side of the stage motioning for her to continue with the segment. "Didn't you have a question for Y/N?"

Joshua looked up from your conversation with wide eyes as he was reminded where he was and why he was here. He nodded nervously and rubbed his sweaty palms together.

"So I know that I'm not Tom Holland or anything, but I—um," He scratched his head awkwardly and paused to contain his jitters. "I was wondering if you'd like to go on a date with me sometime."

The crowed awed and yelled out for you to answer his question, but all of the noise drowned out when you stared into Joshua's hopeful eyes. You already knew your answer.

"I'd love to." Joshua's light brown eyes swirled with delight. Telling by the extremely wide smile plastered on his face, he had been preparing for rejection on live TV, so this was quite a surprise for him.

After staring at each other for a short while, Ellen called out to you both. "Well, hug, shake hands, do something!"

Joshua stood up after letting out a breathy laugh, you following suit and he enveloped you in his arms to give you a warm hug. This hug was much different than the one from a couple of minutes ago. This hug was full of happiness, hope, and promise to new beginnings.

"I think I'm cupid. I really do." Ellen declared happily as you both pulled away from your embrace and waved to the audience as the lengthy interview finally ended.
