the first prank

💭

"Hey guys! Today we have a... different kind of video for you all to watch, Y/N and I are going to be pulling a little prank on Joshua!" Sofia exclaimed into the camera, starting the intro for their newest video on their shared youtube channel.

The camera was perched onto a desk in Frankie's trailer pointing at the girls who were standing in their usual positions, next to the Zac Efron cardboard cutout under the chandelier.

"I just landed in Salt Lake City to surprise Joshua, but Sofia came up with this brilliant idea literally on the spot, you tell them." Y/N winked and motioned for Sofia to continue.

"Agh, okay. So basically, I had this idea that we have Y/N pull the classic hickey prank on Josh, seeing as they haven't seen each other in a month he's totally going to flip." Sofia chuckled, Y/N responding by covering her face with her hands.

"Comment below if you think we should do more videos like this on our channel!" Sofia added while Y/N rested her hand on 'Zac's' shoulder.

(Seriously, comment!)

"Josh is on set right now busy filming, so we have time to make it look believable. Plus, we have Frankie as our lookout just in case." Y/N informed the audience.

"Sof, how are we going to do this? Are you going to give me the hickey?" Y/N inquired, turning to Sofia. The girl's eyes widened for a split second and Y/N groaned. "You know what I mean."

Sofia gave a breathy laugh, "well, Heidi is on her break right now, but I talked to her this morning and she said she'd be happy to come over and help."
(Heidi is the makeup artist for every episode in season 1, yes, I searched it up)

"Are you sure she doesn't mind?" Y/N questioned thoughtfully, not wanting to bother Heidi, knowing she was likely exhausted from their 8+ hour day.

"Nope, when I told her the plan she was all for it."
Y/N chuckled and shook her head, "she should be here any minute now, so let's get you set up!" Sofia exclaimed, clapping her hands optimistically.

Sofia picked the camera off of the table and filmed Y/N as she sat in Frankie's makeup desk, tied her hair back and turned on the giant ring light he used for selfies.

"This is going to be so great." Sofia sang excitedly. As if on cue, Heidi entered the trailer, a small makeup bag in one hand, and a cluster of brushes and blenders in the other.

Y/N wasn't very knowledgeable about makeup; she rarely even wore it, so she scrunched up her nose involuntarily, imagining the feeling of the bristly brush poking her neck.

"You guys don't know how sneaky I was on my way over here." She said, making the girls giggle.

"Hello Heidi!" She greeted, sending a sweet smile her way. "Hey, Y/N, how was the flight?" Heidi asked, walking over to the girls and placing the products on the desk, aware of the limited time they had before Josh arrived.

"It was good, a bit shaky though." She answered, "thank you for asking." Heidi nodded in response and Sofia spoke up. "So, Heidi, we've obviously never done this before, do you think we should have it be more subtle or noticeable?"

Heidi thought about it for a moment, "I think the could be more subtle, we won't make it pop, but we could do more than one. Are you planning on covering it up with a sweater first?" Y/N glanced over at Josh's hoodie that she wore on the plane and back at her plain t-shirt.

"I think i'll just keep the tee." She replied.

"That's good, that way you don't have to worry about it accidentally smudging." Heidi agreed, looking at her choices of products to use.

"Do you want one big, a bit more noticeable hickey," She started whilst pointing at a good spot on Y/N's neck, "or a few hickeys, just a little more subtle?"

Still holding the camera and pointing it at the both of them, Sofia and Y/N looked at each other, practically reading each other's minds before answering in unison, "a few subtle ones."

And with that, Heidi wasted no time and began doing Y/N's makeup. "Just to let you know, I'm going to put them here," she said pointing at different areas of Y/N's neck, "here, and here" pointing a little lower down her neck. Y/N's cheeks began to heat up.

How will he react when he sees the hickeys?

How will he react when I tell him it's just a prank?

"It's going to be fine." Sofia reassured Y/N, picking up on her nervousness. "He's just going to feel relieved and only a tiny bit angry when you tell him it's a prank." Y/N let out a big sigh and pushed her doubts behind her. "Let's hope so."

Not long after, Heidi had finished Y/N's makeup, leaving the girls to strategically plan how they were going to execute their scheme.

"I'm going to be sitting over here minding my own business, pretending to be on my phone." Sofia explained, running through the plan for the final time.

"I'm just going to be standing here?" Y/N inquired, standing by the door. Sofia nodded eagerly before her phone began to buzz.

"Frankie says him and Josh are on their way over here." Sofia shared, Y/N's eyes widening in response. They quickly double checked to make sure their camera was successfully hidden and angled towards the couch and the entrance of the trailer before heading to their places.

Joshua groggily opened the door to the trailer, mumbling something to Frankie about the last take they shot. His eyes were glued to the trailer steps, making sure he wouldn't trip over. All he wanted in the moment was to lay down and facetime-

"Damn, you look like hell." Y/N snorted. Joshua's head shot up and he had to take a double take to make sure he wasn't going crazy. Nope, definitely not hallucinating.

Y/N watched how quick his expression changed as he practically leaped and tackled her in a hug, making them both stumble slightly due to the impact and land on the sofa that was only a few feet away.

"I missed you." Joshua mumbled into her shoulder, crushing her with his weight on top of her. Frankie went over to sit with Sofia on his bean bag chairs and they shared a knowing look.

Y/N hummed and took in his scent. Even after working for so long, he smelled amazing. His cologne was faded and faint, but it just enhanced the scent of his (children's brand) green apple shampoo that made him so much more intoxicating.

Joshua pulled away from the hug and leaned down again to press the softest of kisses onto Y/N's lips. As cliché as it sounded, when their lips touched it was as if the rest of the world melted away. No words were needed to be said, the kiss said it all. The kiss was oh so gentle, and it made Joshua feel at ease knowing they were reunited again.

Joshua allowed Y/N to sit up again, but remained giddy to love on his girlfriend. He watched her like a lost puppy as she fixed her hair and brought it over her shoulders before turning back to him, giving him her full attention.

"Did you guys know she was coming?!" Joshua inquired, turning his head over to Sofia and Frankie, busy on their phones.

"They knew from the moment I thought about getting my ticket." Joshua nodded and gave you a lazy smile, stretching his arms out before leaning his head on the wall behind the sofa.

"I'm so happy you're here." The lovestruck boy grinned. "Thank god. I was worried that I was starting to become that annoying girlfriend that feels the need to be around her boyfriend all the time."

Joshua sent her a tired shrug. "What would be wrong with that?" He inquired cheekily. Frankie pretended to gag in the background but Sofia quickly stopped him by giving him a harsh elbowing to his side.

"That would be pretty great. That would mean cuddles wherever, whenever." He continued with a beautiful grin that made his face beam. His coffee coloured eyes had become 5 shades lighter since he entered the trailer and his sleepiness was (almost) long gone.

Y/N rolled her eyes playfully in response and pushed him away. Josh began to pout at her lack of affection and swiftly moved in the small space in between Y/N and the couch and repeatedly placed tiny kisses all over her face. "Love me." He whined and turned around.

Y/N rolled her eyes again and cuddled Josh, subtly moving her hair to the side to make the hickeys more seen.

The fact that he hadn't noticed the hickeys on her neck yet made her wonder if he'd even notice them at all. There was a slight chance that this prank would become a fail and all of her and Sof's strategic planning and Heidi's hard work would be for nothing.

Suddenly becoming more aware of the limited camera battery and memory card storage, Y/N forced Joshua to turn around and face her instead of spooning him.

He observed her features adoringly before pecking her chin. When he pulled away, he glanced down at her neck, eyebrows furrowing at the sight of what appeared to be small but visible marks on the upper side, the base of her neck and collarbone, near where the collar of her was.

He released himself from her embrace and tilted his head at her. "Love?" He spoke in a confused tone.
"Yeah." Y/N sat up and picked at her fingernails, keeping a straight face to keep her oblivious demeanor. "What's on your neck?" He inquired, making Y/N push her hair back in front of her shoulders 'nervously', "nothing."

"Look at me."

Her eyes met his as she let out a nervous fake laugh and he looked at her quizzically, a shaky hand reaching out to grab her chin, push her hair back and shift her head to the side. Giving those marks a second glance made Joshua's stomach churn. He didn't even want to think about how she got them.

"Y/N, why do you have hickeys on your neck?" Sofia and Frankie turned to each other, subtly winking before pretending to focus on their phones again.

"Josh, calm down, it's not a hickey. I just hurt myself the other day." Y/N answered sheepishly. Joshua shook his head repeatedly, comprehending the pure lies that seamlessly escaped his girlfriend's mouth.

"Do you think I'm that stupid? I know what a hickey looks like." Joshua scoffed and stood up from the sofa, glancing at his shoes, or should he say Ricky's shoes, which he still had to return to the costume trailer, but that didn't really matter. What mattered was why his girlfriend had a hickey on her neck that didn't come from him.

"W-Who gave that to you?" He inquired, absentmindedly rubbing his clammy palms against his jeans. Y/N remained silent and stared at the ground below her.

"Are you a lesbian?" He questioned seriously, making Y/N's head shoot up. She bit back a laugh, "what would make you ask that?" She responded curiously.

"You were in here with Sofia for a while..." He trailed off, gesturing his hands insinuatingly. Y/N's jaw dropped and she sneakily pinched herself to prevent her from bursting into laughter. She could hear Frankie's muffled giggle on her left but Joshua barely registered his friends' reactions, his emotions and thoughts consuming his brain.

"Josh, no. I'm not a lesbian and she didn't give these to me." She replied, gesturing towards her neck and letting out a little chuckle. Joshua brushed a hand through his hair frustratedly.

How could she be laughing about this?

"Am I not enough for you?" Joshua whispered, afraid of hearing her response. "No, love-" She began. Joshua shook his head as she spoke and held out a finger to stop her, "don't call me that."

Noticing the tears forming in Joshua's eyes, Frankie and Sofia glanced at Y/N with their eyes wide wondering when she was going to reveal to Josh that this was all a joke.

"I can't believe you." He uttered, waiting impatiently for her eyes to meet his. When they didn't, Joshua nodded defeatedly and exited the trailer, his footsteps light and feathery until he slammed the trailer door behind him.

With a guilty expression on her face, Y/N and Sofia rushed to grab the camera, a makeup wipe and catch up to Josh. They ran outside in a hurry, only to see Josh sitting a few feet away on the pavement, head in his hands.

Y/N approached him dropping to the floor to wrap her arms around his body. "Joshua, angel, it was a prank!" Sofia held up the camera to show all three of them as she cheered and gloated on what a success her plan was.

Joshua glanced up at the camera with teary eyes and looked at Y/N, who was holding a dirty makeup wipe in her hands before he shoved his head into Y/N's neck.

He ignored Sofia and placed his arms around her waist, finally letting a tear spill. He was feeling so many emotions; rage, frustration, sadness, relief.
Y/N placed her hand over her mouth and stared at Sofia, waiting for Joshua to say something, anything.

"What do you have to say, Mr Bassett? I think we did pretty good." Sofia inquired jokingly, crouching down and practically shoving the camera into his face.

He wiped his eyes on the fabric clad to Y/N's shoulder and lifted his head. He eyed the camera confidently, "I have to admit, you guys did well. I was not expecting that at all." He paused, "But I am so going to get you girls back."

And with that he gave his girlfriend's waist a tiny squeeze and began to pepper kisses on her neck (that kind of left the nasty taste of makeup wipes on his lips) while Sofia stood up again and turned the camera to film the outro with Frankie, who'd exited the trailer to see all the commotion. Y/N rolled her eyes playfully at his remark.

"Sure you are."
