my valentine
💭
"Shit." You sighed and rubbed your dry, tired eyes as the bright, golden sun peaked through your dark curtains.
Your hand reached out to the right side of the bed. Cold. You frowned, your eyes still shut, and grumpily buried your head into your pillows.
Another day without Joshua. The worst part about it was that today was Valentine's Day.
Joshua hadn't called you in about a week or two, but you weren't going to complain, you promised yourself you weren't going to become the clingy, needy girlfriend. He was currently working hard in Salt Lake City, filming for season two of HSMTMTS.
You knew he was busy, but being alone with your thoughts for 3 months without any affection or love from your boyfriend made your mind go to places you never thought of before.
"What if he's cheating on me?" You whispered anxiously, placing your chin in your palm as you looked across the diner table at your friend who was rolling her eyes at you.
"What are you even saying? Why would he cheat on you?" She questioned, munching on a fry as she watched your face contort with pure anxiety. "Why wouldn't he? He's been away from me for so long, he's spent the past few months with VERY beautiful, talented, famous women and he hasn't been calling!"
Your friend laughed at your panicked rant and distressed state as she set down her burger. "Y/N. He's just busy! You've met those girls over the phone! They were nice to you! You trust Josh, right? And you know that he doesn't always have to be the first person to call, right? He's probably thinking the same thing as you right now."
Wincing at the bright room surrounding you, you grabbed your phone, smiling fondly at your wallpaper of when you and Josh had your first date at an ice skating rink downtown. You typed in your password and pressed Josh's contact.
You bit your nails while you waited for Josh to answer the call. Why were you so nervous all of a sudden? This was your boyfriend, your best friend.
"Hello?" You heard after a few rings, making you freeze. "Hello? Y/N? Babe?" He repeated making you shake out of your dazed trance. "Yes? Oh, hey." You said, stuttering as you hastily mustered out a greeting.
"Baby! Happy Valentine's Day!" You blushed softly, the pink, rosey colour tinting your cheeks quickly. "Happy Valentines Day! Wait one second." A request to FaceTime appeared on Joshua's screen. His eyes widened and he quickly pressed the decline button. You furrowed your eyebrows and a small frown etched itself onto your face.
"Sorry babe, i'm just busy. Anyway, how are you? Did you just wake up?" Josh questioned distractedly, pointing out your raspy morning voice. You could tell he wasn't giving you his full attention by the pauses in between his words. Your imagination wavered back to those negative theories and thoughts from a couple weeks ago, but you shook your head, Y/N, you're overthinking, as always.
"Yeah, just a couple minutes ago. I'm good, uh, I miss you." You replied, glancing back at his cold pillow. "I miss you too, I wish I could be there in bed with you." Josh sighed on the other side of the phone. "Same, but there's only a week or two left before you come home." You reminded him, a smile replacing your previous frown.
"It's just been so long. Franklin doesn't even smell like honey anymore!" Joshua grumbled. Before Joshua left to Salt Lake City to film he took you on a date to Build-A-Bear Workshop and created Franklin, your and Josh's 'child'.
As they stuffed Franklin, Josh insisted they added a honey scent to him, because he said that you smelled like honey; You don't know how, you own lavender shampoo and a flowery scented perfume, but you accepted the compliment anyway and went along with it since Joshua was already so obsessed with the bear.
"Your hoodies don't smell like you anymore." You complained to your boyfriend grumpily, making him laugh. "When I come back, I will give you all my hoodies. I even bought a new one, just for you. I think you'll like it." Your heart fluttered at the thought of Josh purchasing a hoodie just because he thought you'd look good in it.
"Thanks bubs, you're adorable." You praised, making him shrug over the phone and blush.
"Any plans for today?" He inquired, twisting and fidgeting with the metal promise ring around his finger as he waited for your response.
"Probably going to eat a whole pint of ice cream and watch netflix all day." You laughed.
"Oh! I know we said earlier this year we weren't going to celebrate Valentine's Day this year since we weren't going to be together, but I sent you a package earlier this week and it should've arrived this morning!" Joshua spoke, shifting the phone in between his ear and his shoulder.
"Josh! We said no gifts!" You chuckled, shaking your head and throwing your legs over the edge of the bed. You set your phone down and stretched your arms out, letting out a tired, guttural groan as you felt your tense back muscles stretch and your feet touch the freezing wooden floor.
The doorbell rang, the sound ringing throughout your entire cozy apartment. "Maybe that's it!" You giggled, slipping on your slippers and walking towards your front door.
You turned the doorknob and opened the door, revealing Joshua standing in front of you with a beaming smile.
He was wearing one of his older hoodies and sweatpants. His hair was curly as ever, just the way you liked it. In his left hand, he was holding a bouquet of roses, a red heart shaped balloon in the other.
You both stood there, smiling at each other at the door, tears threatening to spill from both of your eyes. Only then did you realise you were both still on the line, so when Joshua finally stammered out a breathy "hey" making both your phones emit a high pitched, uncomfortable ringing noise.
Joshua cringed at the unsatisfying sound and took his phone off of his ear and shoved it into his back pocket, making sure to hang up first, before throwing his arms around you in a bone crushing hug.
"I missed this." Joshua whispered softly, tilting his head down to press a several kisses on your bed hair. You hummed out a response, taking the whole moment in.
You lifted your head out of the crook of his neck and looked up into his coffee coloured eyes. Your heart practically exploded as you noticed the loving look on his face as he looked back down at you.
"I-Um, How?" Joshua laughed at your surprised, shocked reaction and kissed your forehead, his arms still wrapped around your torso.
"I convinced everyone on set to work a little extra a few weeks ago so we could finish filming sooner. I hopped on a flight here last night." Josh explained, the curls dangling off his head bouncing as he spoke.
"Well, i'm glad they agreed. Now I can eat ice cream and watch netflix with my valentine" You giggled, placing your soft lips onto his. He let go of the balloon and placed his hand on your waist, melting into the kiss.
When you pulled away, you could see the look of pure happiness etched into Joshua's face. He glanced down at your lips again before looking back up at your eyes.
"I love you." You smiled cheekily, a blush spreading across your cheeks and you pulled Josh's neck down to press your lips onto his red, swollen lips again.
He smiled into the kiss and without breaking it, you both walked back into your apartment and Joshua shut the door with his foot. You had a wonderful, cozy Valentine's Day with your loving, caring, adorable boyfriend.
