Chapter 9: Breaking Free

Elron followed the humans into the mission area. They were all very nervous around him. They kept their weapons at the ready, and they put as much distance between themselves and Elron as possible. Eventually they got to the mission breafing area. The human that was helping was already waiting there. He had an assault rifle in his hands and a sniper rifle strapped to his back. He also had a pistol and a knife around his waist.

Elron nodded a slight greating and the human nodded back.

"Here is the metal dragon," said one of the humans that had brang him to the mission hall, "Good luck, your going to need it."

The rider just smiled, "I'll be alright."

He picked up a saddle from a rail. He walked up to Elron. Elron growled at the sight of the saddle.

"Hey," whispered the human, "This is only a one time thing, just to make it look like we are actually going on a mission."

Elron hestitated then nodded. He lay down on the ground and let the human strap the saddle onto him. It slid against his metal back, The human narrowed his eyes and tightened the saddle. Elron growled, it was way to tight. The human quickly loosened it.

"Have we got any magnetic saddles?" he asked.

The human who had brought Elron up nodded his head.

"Yes, do you want me to go and get one," he said.

The human nodded.

"Okay then, I better get going," said the other human, with that he ran off to get the saddle.

Elron waited impationtly for the human to get back.

'Why can't they just ride bearback,' he thought.

Eventually the human got back with the saddle. The rider put the saddle onto Elron's back, the magnets sticking to it. The rider then climbed up Elron's side and into the saddle. Elron shifted uncomfortabley, the human wasn't heavy, but he gad an uncomfortable weight.

"Okay, let's get going," said the rider.

Elron walked outside and opened his wings. He took a large flap and flew into the air. The rider on his back held his horns and smiled, he always loved flying on dragons. As Elron got further and further away from the base he became slightly anxious.

"When do we get this thing off my head?" he said.

"Patience," said the human, "We want to be at least a day's ride out from the base. They have camera's set up all over this desert and we don't want them to know where we are."

'That could be a problem,' thought Elron, he wanted to get back here after he was freed, and rescue all the other dragons, but he couldn't if there were camera's everywhere. They would know he was coming before he was able to get there.

"Where are the camera's?" he asked the human.

"All over the place. They've placed over a hundred," replied the human.

"Is there a gap in the camera's, a place where I would be able to get through without them spotting me?" said Elron.

"Yes, just west of here there is only one camera, non of the others in sight. If you manage to destroy that camera you have a free way in and out without any body noticing," said the human.

Elron nodded, 'Good, that means my plan will go on without a problem.'

They continued to fly through the desert. The heat was starting to make Elron's metal shell heat up. He shifted, uncomfortable. The human on his back reached out and touched the shell. He hurridly pulled his hand back.

"Your back is very hot," he said.

"I know," replied Elron, "It's very uncomfortable."

"How do you cope with that," said the human.

"You get used to it," replied Elron, "Do you know how many times I've flown across this desert in scauching heat. This is my five hundreth time."

"Your counting?" said the human.

"No," replied Elron, "But this is my five hundreth mission and every time I fly over this desert it is very hot."

"Would that mean you've flown over it a thousand times," said the human, "Twice in every mission."

Elron hesitated, "I guess so."

The human smiled and relaxed back in the saddle, being careful not to touch Elron's back. They flew past the end of the desert and into a forest like area. It was a very sudden change, but Elron was used to it. As they flew Elron bgan to think more about his plan to rescue the dragons.

'I can't just waltz in there and say I want the dragons back, and an attack would be wasted, I wouldn't get anywhere near the dragons without getting magnified or something like that. No, the only way would be to wait, wait for dragons to get sent on missions, sneek up on them, and take off the stupid device. I just need to wait for this human to tell me how.'

WIth that he flew on. They flew for hours, and were now over the sea. There mission was only a little way from where they were. There was also a string of islands somewhere near. Elron was planning on landing on them. The islands also had a few tribes of humans. The human wanted to stay with them for some odd reason.

He eventually spotted the islands. The islands had gigantic mountains on them, which were covered with bush and scrub, making it impossible for him to land. He spotted a few villages around as well. He dibated on whether or not to land in one of the villages, but thought no. They would probably spook or something, but then again, that might not be such a bad idea.

"There's a clearing down there!" said the human, "Land."

Elron swooped down and landed in the clearing. It was just big enough for him to be able to fit. The human slid off the saddle and down onto the ground. He stretched his saw legs and yawned. Elron sat on the ground and waited.

The human looked towards Elron and laughed, "You must be very desperate to get free from that thing.'

Elron nodded.

"Okay," said the human with a smile, "But remember, don't kill me afterwould."

Elron nodded again, "I give you a dragon's word."

The human nodded slightly.

"Okay," he started, "There is a small gap in the back of the machine. It is tiny, but big enough for a small knife to fit through."

Elron changed his tail into a very thin knife.

"Would this fit?" he said, showing the human his tail.

The human nodded, "You reach into the gap and there you can cut through the wires that lead to your brain. This causes the machine to fall off and it's a small matter to pull the wire's out."

"How much will it hurt?" said the dragon.

"Not that much," replied the human, "It'll be like a small pinch or stig."

Elron nodded and reached his tail up to the machine. He poked it with his tail, feeling around for the gap. Eventually he gave up.

"I can't find it!" he roared.

The human just sighed, "Lower your head."

Elron did. The human crawled onto Elron's neck. He touched a part of Elron's head.

"Can you feel that?" he asked.

"No," said Elron, "My shell's in the way."

"Can you... I don't know, get it out of the way," said the human.

Elron snorted. He made that part of the shell disappearm revealing the yellow scales underneath. The human place his finger on the upper part of Elron's neck. Elron flinched at the contact. That part of his scales usually didn't get touched, he hardly ever revealed it.

"Can you feel that?" asked the human, oblivious to Elron's discomfort.

Elron gritted his teeth and nodded.

"Well, just about there you should feel a small gap," continued the human.

Elron reached up his tail and, being careful not to poke himself in the neck, he poked his tail into the machine. He immediatly notice the tightness of the space. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of his life. Electricity pumped through his metal tail, causing shocks to go through his body. It didn't hurt, it was more like the shock when you touch and electric fence.

Elron growled and quickly flicked his tail around, cutting neatly through the wire's in his head. The machine fell off his head. Elron felt that huge daze around his head instantly cut out, and his head felt light again. He smiled, he was free, and it didn't hurt one bit.

"Okay," said the human, "Just stay still, I need to get these wire's out."

Elron stilled his neck, getting ready to through the stupid human off. He was tired of him, he never wanted to see a human again, unless it was to kill them, but he stopped himself. He remembered what he had said to the human. He had given him a dragon's promise, a promise that is umbreakable to dragons, that he wouldn't kill him. He sighed.

The human pulled out the wire's one by one. There was four of them. Each one placed an equal distance from each other in a square. Elron flinched as each one was pulled out. Blood seeped from his head but he hardly noticed. Finally the last one was pulled out. The human flung them to the ground.

He slipped of Elron's neck. Elron shivered all over as he places the metal protection around his head. He laughed again. He was free, he was finally free. He could do whatever he wanted. He looked towards the human that had helped him.

"Thankyou," he said, "I wasn't sure if you would help, but you did."

The human bowed his head towards the dragon.

"We are now even," said Elron, "I don't owe you anything and you don't owe me. Next time we meet, if we do, we aren't enemies, and we definitaltly not friends, you going to have to earn that."

With that Elron flew off.

"Wait!" cried the human.

Elron looked down to him.

"I forgot to take off your saddle!" he said.

Elron snorted. He reached around with his tail and pulled it off easily. He then flung it down to the human. The human jumped out of the way of the saddle before it landed with a thud. The human looked up to the dragon, to find that he had already flown away. He smiled, he had helped free a dragon and now he was back in his home island. He picked up the saddle and walked into the bush.

Elron roared as loud as he could. He was flying fast, very fast. he flew right over the sea, and back again, in less then thirty minutes. He felt invincible, like nothing could stop him.

"I'M FREE!" he cried out.

He looked down at the ocean and spotted a shark swimming close to the ocean surface. He swooped down and picked it up with his claws. The shark struggled for a few seconds before Elron killed it with a bite to the head. He then began eat the shark in mid air.

He sighed and looked forward. He saw a dark smudge in the distance. As he got closer he recognised the smudge as a human battle fleet. He suddenly remembered the mission he was supposed to be doing.

'Why not,' he thought, 'It'll be fun.'

With that he flew towards the ships, letting his armour fall down around him, making him into the invincible metal dragon. He smiled as he let loose his first attack on one of the battle ships.
