Chapter 8: A New Mission

Elron was lead back to his cage, forecfully. The one handed man had been taken to the medical bay, after fainting from loss of blood. The new device was stronger then the last one, it seemed to be more in control as well, but Elron could still fight, every movement he made was a fight. He tried to get away from the humans, destroy them, but the machine was stopping him, barely.

Sometime's he just stopped in the middle of the hallway, snarling with defiance, but the machine kept him going. The scientists around him were nervous, they kept on glancing at the snarling dragon. He even tried to pull it off, but it was stuck fast, no amount of pulling would free the device. The only good thing was he was able to touch it without worry of it hurting him.

The scientists eventually got him back to the breeding cage. Scarlet was there and she was surprised when Elron was almost chucked back into the cage, snarling like an animal. The scientists hurried away, leaving Elron laying by the half finished metal nest. She walked over to the cage and she heard what she had never heard before, sobbing.

"Elron," she said, "Are you alright? What happened?"

The huge dragon was facing away from her, his shoulders heaving.

"Elron?" she said again.

Elron growled at her. She took a step back, whatever had happened to him made him extremely angry. She walked back over to her nest, and lay down. Elron would talk when he was ready.

Scarlet waited for over an hour before Elron finaly spoke.

"I broke free, Scarlet, I broke free," he said.

Scarlet's head shot out of the nest, "Really! How?"

Elron smiled and turned to face her, "I pulled it out, it was actually quite easy, but it hurt, a lot, and I fainted again."

"Really," she said excited, "What was it like, and how did they recapture you?"

"It felt amazing," said Elron, "Like, a hundred baths. I could actaully think for myself, I felt like I could do anything. I even killed a human, like it was nothing, but when I did faint, they recaptured me, and tide me up in chains. I broke free of those pretty easily, and attacked the human that was trying to reattache the device, but they had magnets in the walls, and I was in full metal form. The magnets caught me easily, and the human managed to reattache the device, but not before I sliced off one of his hands."

Scarlet smiled, "It must have been wonderful."

"It was," said Elron looking into space, a tear trickled from his eye, "I was so close Scarlet, so close to what I most desire, and then they took it away from me again."

Elron closed his eyes, the tears were coming again, "All I want to be is free! Why can't the humans just leave us be. We are free creatures, no some pack animal. They can have there wars, take our land even, but our freedom, that's just... that's just...unfair."

Elron let loose a huge sob.

"Your right Elron," said Scarlet, "It is unfair, and now that you have experienced it, you know what they have taken away from us."

Elron nodded slowly, then he growled. He looked up at Scarlet, defiance in his eyes.

"I will free us Scarlet," he said, "I promise you, I will do whatever it takes but I will take these humans down, even if I have to kill myself."

Scarlett nodded, and gave a sad smile, "Well let's just hope that that doesn't happen."

Elron smiled.

"But... how will you free yourself?" she said.

"I don't know yet, but I will find a way," said Elron.

He said it with so much confidence that Scarlet was beginning to believe him.

'I don't want to get my hopes up,' she thought, 'But if Elron does free us, then that will be the best thing that has ever happened.'

"ELRON!" said a human voice from outside the stable.

Both Elron and Scarlet looked towards the voice. The human opened the door of the stable and walked inside. He had a pistol in his hand. Elron narrowed his eyes when he recognised the human.

"You?" he said, and cursed when he realised that he couldn't speek english anymore.

"You know this human?" said Scarlet.

Elron nodded, "As far as human's go, he's alright."

"He looks angry," said Scarlet.

Elron nodded, "I killed his friend."

"Well that's just great," said Scarlet.

Elron nodded.

"Stop conversing in you dragon language, and talk!" he yelled at Elron, "I know you can."

He pointed his gun at Elron's head. Elron let his armour fall down.

"Talk," said the human, his voice cracking.

"Why are you so angry?" said Elron, his metalic voice echoed through the room.

The human's eyes widened in surprise for a few seconds then narrowed again.

"You know why," he said.

"If you are still angry about your friend, don't be," said Elron snarling, "He deserved it."

"Why!" said the human, "He didn't deserve anything. He was drunk, everyone does that."

Elron snorted, "It didn't kill him because of that. I killed him because of what he did, because of what all of you did."

"What did we do?" said the human, "We have taken care of you, fed you, made sure your race isn't wiped from extinction."

"Wiped from extinction!" said Elron roaring, "By taking us and trapping us like animals! By controlling our lives! You call that taking care of us, saving us!"

The human was glaring at Elron, "You think you've got it rough? My parents were killed when I was only five, I was forced to join the army, it was my only choice left, and then I was forced out here, to be put in a secret army force, and then learn that dragon's really do exist! My whole life I lived a lie, I still am."

Elron laughed, "You think your life is tougher then mine! I never new my parents, from the moment I hatched I was treated like an animal, an outcast. Add the fact that my every movement was being controlled by a human scums, that think that they are doing as a favour! At least you have a choice, I don't! I never had a choice, or a say in what I want or don't want! You took away the one thing that matters to dragons, freedom! I would rather the whole race die out then be seperated from that one thing!"

The human took a step back, surprised. Tears were in his eyes.

"I... I never knew," said the human.

He dropped the gun to the ground.

"Tell me one thing, human, if you spent your whole life seperated from the one thing that matters to you, tell me, would you hesitate to kill the people responsible for it?" said Elron, looking down at the human.

The human looked up at the dragon, "No... no I guess I wouldn't."

Elron nodded his head, then walked to his nest and curled up, trying to get comfortable.

"Now if your done with your questioning, leave," said Elron.

He heard the scrapes of the human walking towards the door. Elron let his let his armour retract. The human suddenly stopped walking.

He seemed to hesitate before, "I know how to get those things of your head."

Elron's eyes widened. He never thought that there was a way to get them off.

"I'll tell you, on one condition," said the human, "You get me out of this place. If you want you're freedom, you have to give me mine."

Elron looked towards the human, what did he have to loose. He could always kill the human afterwoulds.

"I'll do it," said Elron.

The human smiled.

"Okay then," he said, "All you need to do is..."

"Liam!" said a voice, "Where are you? You were supposed to report to the mission head quarters an hour ago."

"Hide me," said the human desperatly.

Elron cocked his head at him, "You still haven't told me how to get free."

The human thought for a moment, "I'm going to be on a mission. I'll ask for you, no one else wants you because of that inncedent this morning. It'll be an easy escape."

"Liam!" said the voice again.

"Pease," said the human, looking at the dragon with pleading eyes.

Elron gave in, "Alright, but you better tell me tomorrow, or I will be very mad."

The human nodded then dived into Elron's nest. Elron covered him with his wing. The human that was calling for him passed the stall. He looked inside then kept going. The human behind Elron's wing sighed with releaf.

"I'll definitly get you out of here," said the human, before sprinting off, the opposite way he had come in.

Elron looked after him.

"Can you trust him?" said Scarlet, she had heard the whole convisation.

"No," said Elron, "But he's our only chance. Now get some sleep, we'll need it."

With that Elron curled up and instantly went to sleep. He never thought he could be so tired.

When the next morning came Elron was woken up by the grating of metal gates, again. He shook his head and looked towards the sound. There were three humans, all with guns pointed towards Elron.

"You're to come with us," one of them said, "You have been selected by some crazy kid who thinks you won't hurt him."

'He actually did it,' thought Elron.

He got up and walked over to the humans. Scarlet had woken a long time ago, and wasn't in her stable. He sighed and the human's started to walk him through the mass of corridors. Elron creaked his neck. He was about to go on another mission, and hopefully his last.
