Chapter 4: Inspection Day Part 2

"Follow me," said the insepector.

The dragons followed the inspector to another part of the hanger. He walked through a door. Since the dragons couldn't follow him they sat outside, waiting for the next intstruction. Eventually a large door opened, big enough for the dragons to fit through.

Elron hesitated for a second, then walked in. It was a large spacious room. There was a walkway on top, with glass windows. The humans were standing there watching the dragons. Other then that there was really nothing special about this place.

"Dragons, I want you to wait on the side of the arena, until it is your turn to fight," said the inspector through a megaphone.

Elron looked where the inspector had told them to go and found ten dragons stables. He walked over and chose the one on the far left. The other dragons chose stalls far apart, the closest one to him was Scarlet.

The inspector looked down towards the dragons with a raised eyebrow. When he saw they were ready he pressed a red button. There was a control pad in this room, allowing him to control the everything in the arena. He pushed another button, changing the bullets that were going to be fired to blanks.

The dragons in the stables jumped in surprise as a platform began to move upwards, it stopped halfway to the ceiling.

"I want the fire dragoness to go to the top of the platform, get ready for you first test," said the inspector.

Scarlet walked out of the stable and opened her wings. She flew towards the top of the stadium, landing without a noise.

"Okay you first test begins... now," he said.

Elron saw a machine gun come from a hole in the wall. He couldn't see Scarlet but could tell she had seen it to.

"Your goal, don't get pushed from the platform," said the inspector, "You may fly and use your powers, go."

The machine gun started to fire. Elron heard a growl of surprise.

'What are these humans trying to do?' he thought, 'Kill us.'

He then noticed that the bullets were slightly different from the others. He looked closely at the flying bullets. They didn't have any gun powder, and they were blunt as well.

'They must be blanks,' he thought.

A fireball suddenly flew from the arena, striking the gun and blowing it up, but more guns were starting to appear. Elron was sure he heard a rocket launcher fire. The arena was suddenly full of noise and fire. He heard grunts of pain and roars of defiance. Suddenly Scarlet was flung from the arena, she fell fast, and didn't have time to open her wings.

The ground suddenly opened up and she plumited into a pool of water. She quickly shot to the surface and swam to the edge, gasping for breath. All dragons can swim but fire dragons hate the water. She climbed ashore and shook herself dry. Elron noticed a few scratches in her scales that weren't there before.

"Well done," came the voice from te megaphone, "You survived twenty three minutes. The average is twenty. You made it to round ten, most dragons make it to round eight. Next up, earth dragon."

Terra walked out of his stable and opened his wings. He flapped a few times, trying to get himself into the air. When he finally did he flew up to the top of the arena with a loud thud that echoed throughout the arena.

"Your challenge starts... now," he said, "The rules are the same as before."

With that Elron heard the machine gun fire again, this time it was in a completely different spot.

"They must be making it random somehow,' thought Elron.

The machine gun exploded, and the real fight began. Terra was eventaully knocked down.

"Well done," said the inspector, "You survived thirty minutes, but only made it up to level seven. You must learn to take your enemies out quicker."

The next dragon to go up was Celestia. She survived for twenty nine minutes, and made it to level fifteen. She had done the best so far.

"Next, the metal dragon," said the inspector.

Elron flew up to the arena. It was a big flat plateau, almost, with parts of destroyed machines lying everywhere. Elron landed in the middle, and waited.

"Your time begins... now," said the inspector, "The rules are the same."

As soon as the machine gun popped from the wall Elron launched a tail spike at it, destroying it before it even had a chance to fire. He didn't bother to put his armour down, not yet anyway. The next gun was a pistole and a sniper, with another machine gun. Elron put out his wing, blocking the machine gun fire then started firing the miny metal spikes from his mouth, destroying the pistol and the sniper. He flinged his tail at the machine gun, launching another tail spike.

When they were destroyed another gun appeared, this time it was by itself but it looked like a missile launcher. It aimed at him, and fired. Elron put his wings up over his head, letting the missiles smash into them with incredible force. Smoke exploded out from the missiles.

'So they are only smoke bombs,' he thought.

He twisted out of the way of another barrage of missiles, then shot a glob of liquid iron at the contraption. It was a direct hit, the metal covering all the holes used for the missiles, the next time the missile launcher fire, it blew itself up.

The next level had five machine guns, all in the roof, firing rapidly. Erlon spread his wings and took to the air. He made sure to keep his back facing the guns, because the bullets just clanged of the metal shell. He looked at the guns, tilting his head up, and blew a stream of liquid iron at them. The iron hit all five guns, leaving a trail of metal between each. Since the guns couldn't fire any more they were immediatly defeated.

The next level was two missile launches along with a machine gun and a sniper. Elron took out the machine gun and one of the missile launches with a single flick of his tail, which launched a volly of metal spikes. He twisted around the other missiles and hit the second missile launcher with a glob of metal.

The sniper fired, hitting him on the leg. He growled with annoyance. The pain was equivilant to a bee sting. he growled and took out the sniper with another glob of metal. He hovered in the air, waiting for the next target.

'This should be level seven,' he thought, 'The one when Terra was knocked out.'

Suddenly five missile launches appeared from nowhere. They started to launch missiles towards him. Elron opened his mouth and let out a stream of liquid metal. It hit the missiles head on, instanlty solidifing, causing the missiles to drop to the ground, incased in metal.

Elron didn't stop breathing his metal until all five of the launches were covered in metal. Elron landed on the ground, breathing heavily from his last attack.

'I shouldn't breath my element for that long,' he thought, 'It tires me out to quickly. Looks like it's time to go full metal.'

He smiled at the thought. He let the metal shell start to grow, until he was completely covered, his red eyes shining through the metal. He opened his wings, and got down in a fighting stance, it was time to take this to the next level.

'Level eight,' he thought, 'The level that most dragons go down on.'

He heard a grating sound. Suddenly the floor opened on the other side of the stadium. A tank was revealed.

'A tank!" he thought, 'Those things are easy!'

With a single bound he jumped over to the tank, it fired, missing him by inches. He swung his wings downwards, cutting the tank clean in half. He jumped back and it exploded.

'That's been the easiest one yet,' he thought.

He looked down to the humans, who were watching a screen, they looked surprised. Elron laughed, he had taken on armies of tanks, and still won. The next level didn't have a tank, but it did have three snipers, along with another missile launcher and a pistol. He quickly got those, firing a few globs of metal at each of them.

'Level ten,' he thought, 'This is the one where Scarlet went down.'

The floor opened again, this time in five different places. He new they weren't tanks, the holes were to small. A human popped, out of one of them, he was holding machine gun. Four more humans popped out of the whole, all with a different gun.

'Your joking,' thought Elron, 'I get to fight humans, yes!'

He swung his tail around, transforming the end of it into a spiked mace, and brang it down on the human with a rifle, crushing it to the ground. It exploded.

'An explosion?' thought Elron, 'But, humans don't explode, unless there robots... Dammit I knew it was to good to be true.'

He was interupted from his thought process when the human with the machine gun opened fire. The bullets rebounded hamlessly off his metal shell. Elron growled and shot a tail spike at the humen, impaling it with a long shaft, blowing it up. He quickly took care of the rest of the humans, using his tail and wings.

'That's level ten done,' he thought.

The next level had a tank and five humans. He destroyed all six machines with three strikes, one with his wings, chopping a human in half, as well as the tank, and two tail strikes, killing the other four humans with spikes.

As he continued to do the levels he found them to be not that much of a challenge. He passed level fifteen with a breeze, destroying the six tanks, five machine guns, and twelve humans with ease. Eventually he lost count of how many levels he had completed. Finally he reached the level he couldn't complete.

There were three robot dragons, all with similair powers to him, but they couldn't morf there tails and there wings weren't as sharp. He grappled with the three dragons for over ten minutes, finally he managed to cut one in half with his wings, then smash the other one's head off with his tail.

He looked around for the other dragon. Suddenly he was surprise attacked from the side, knocking him clean off the stadium. He snapped at the other dragon, trying to open his wings and take flight, but th extra weight was just to much and he fell into the pool with a gigantic splash. He sank to the bottom, and found it impossible to get up. The robot dragon had already malfunctioned in the water.

Elron made his armour retract and he swam to the serface. He climbed ashore and looked at the other dragons. They were all looking at him with surprise.

"Well done Elron!" came the voice from the speaker, "You just broke the record by miles. Your time was three hours, and you made it to level seventy eight. The record was thirty five and the time was an hour and a half, so well done."

Elron was honeslty surprised with himself, he never expected to get so far. The dragons waited a few more minutes, wondering what to do next. The other three congradulated him on his success. Scarlet noticed that he didn't even have a scratch, besides the place where the sniper had hit him in the leg.

The humans finally came down.

"Okay," said the inspector, "Take the dragons to there respective areas, those two to the breeding rooms, that one to the heavy lifting place and that one to the mission area. I'm sure you can find something for her."

The woman nodded, then she guestured to the dragons, "Come with me."

The dragons grudgingly began to follow her.
