Chapter 1: Ten Years Later

The dragon swooped through the night, silently, steathily. It was big, very big. It's metal back shined into the night, the moon's light glimmering of the silver. It's yellow belly and scales seemed to get darker, concealing it from anyone looking from below.

There was a man sitting on it's back, riding easily with the dragon's movements. He was sitting on a brown leather saddle, that seemed to stand out on the dragon's scales. The rider was wearing army camouflage clothes, and he had a sniper strapped to his back. He leaned over and pattered the dragon's neck.

"Keep going, Elron," said the rider, "we're almost there."

The dragon grunted in reply. He turned into a steep dive towards a house nearby. The rider pulled out the sniper. He aimed through the scope, keeping hold of the dragon with his legs. The dragon turned upside down, giving the rider a clear shot. He pulled the trigger, letting loose a silent bang that only the dragon could hear. A window shattered and there was a scream.

"Okay," said the rider, "Let's get outa' here."

The dragon turned back the right way round, then started to fly back the way he had come.

"Nice job," said the rider, "Once we get far enough I'll give you a well deserved rest."

Elron snorted silently, he was no where near exhausted, in fact, he could probably get back to the base in a matter of hours, and they were on the other side of the world. He pumped his wings, he was very tempted to throw the rider of and make a break for it, but he knew it wouldn't work. The device stuck between his horns made sure of that.

The dragon sighed and looked back towards the house. They had been sent to assinate a gorvernment official, who was trying to give out some very powerful infomation, it could destroy the world if there enemies new about it, well, that's what Elron was lead to believe.

"Okay, here's far enough," said the rider, "We can land now."

Elron swooped down towards a little clearing in the forest. He landed with a thud. The rider slid down the dragon's side and landed on the ground. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a square peice of fabric, then chucked it onto the ground. He pulled a strange remote from his belt and pressed a button, making it the thing suddenly start to morf. It kept on folding out until it revealed a small one man tent.

The rider walked over to the tent and opened it. Inside was a sleeping bag. The man pulled out a packet of beef jerky from his belt. He looked towards Elron, who was staring at him with a begging expression. He was hungry, very hungry. He hadn't eaten in almost two weeks now.

"You are free to hunt," said the rider.

"Yes," growled Elron in the dragonic language.

He nodded his head towards the rider and jumped into the air, flapping his wings and lifting himself into the air. He smiled, it had been a long time since he had been able to fly without a human riding him. He enjoyed the moment, doing loop-de-doops and zig-zagging through the sky.

Eventually he caught the smell of a deer, a buck, in the forest, alone. He quickly spied it out, then started to dive down towards it. Even in his massive size he was a silent fligher, hardly making a sound, even when he was in a hurry. The buck didn't suspect a thing and it was scooped up in the dragons claws.

Elron left the deer dangling in his claws and started to fly slowly back to the camp. He thought as he flew, trying to remember a time when he wasn't under the human's rule. He couldn't think of any, so i was either he hatched here as a baby or he lost his memory when the\at thing was attached to his head.

He reached out his tail and prodded it slightly and let out a grunt of pain. For some reason whenever he touched the strange device the pain it generated was unbearable. He grunted and faulted. He quickly got back his balance, and shook his head.

As he flew on he heard a small sound in the distance, it souded kind of like helicopter. He sniffed the air, smelling the distinct sent of metal and oil, along with humans. He growled, they were helicopters. He hovered in the air, debating whether or not to destroy them now or wake up the human and hide. Eventually the red thing in his head decided for him. It made him fly towards the human's camp.

He flew down and landed right near the tent, as loudly as he possibly could. When that didn't work he nudged the tent, whinning.

"Okay, I"m up, I'm up," said the human walking from his tent, "What is it?"

The dragon looked towards the sky and made a helicopter noise with his mouth.

"Helicopters?" said the rider, looking at the dragon in surprise.

Elron nodded his head. The rider frowned. He clicked a buttong on the remote and the tent folded back up. He stuffed it into his pocket.

"Hide in the trees," he said.

Elron walked towards the trees, and just managed to fit between them. The human was not far behind, he climbed onto Elron's back and crouched in the saddle. Elron lay down and spread out his wings as far as he could. The metal shell on his back started to become darker, until it was almost black. The two stayed like that for almost an hour before the human could here the helicopters.

"So they are here," he said.

Elron snorted, of course they were.

There were two helicopters. They flew right over the camp without so much as a pause. They continued the way they were going. As soon as they passed the rider climbed out of his hiding spot. Elron followed, making the metal on his back become shiny again.

"Nice work Elron," said the rider with a smile.

Elron grunted and lay back down. He still had his deer, and he began to tear at it with hunger in his eyes. The rider shivered and remade his tent and walked inside. Elron looked after the human, blood dripping from his maw.

This human was probably kinder then any other he had been with. He was probably one of the only one's that called him by his real name, and seemed to expect a lot from him. The other riders just used him as a mount, a way to get around without getting noticed. Elron wished he could talk to the human, but if he said anything not in dragonic the head peice would cause him a considerable amount of pain. He new he could talk in english, because he could think in english, which he often did.

Once Elron had finished with the deer, bones and all, he cleaned himself with his toung and put his head to the ground, and fell to sleep.

The next morning Elron was woken up by the sound of helicopters. He opened his eyes and looked to the sky. It was early, very early, but the helicopters were getting closer, and quickly. Elron nudged the tent again, waking up the human inside. He came out.

"What is it?" he said, the stopped. He had heard the helicopters as well, "Quick, hide!"

Elron ran towards the forest, squeezing back into the spot he had been in the night before. The rider hit the button and the tent folded back into a square. He stuffed it into his pocket and sprinted towards the hiding spot, but he was to late. The helicopters sawed over the clearing.

The front one stopped. They had seen the human.

"Stop!" said a loud voice from the helicopters.

The rider continued to sprint towards the forest. Suddenly the helicopters opened fire, bullets rained down from above. The rider pulled a pistlle out from his belt and fired at the helicopters, hoping for a lucky shot at the engines.

Suddenly he cried out in pain and fell to the floor. It took a moment for Elron to pinpoint the injury. It was on his leg, just above the ankle. Elron hesitated for a second, before running out of cover towards the human. He spread his wings over the human, creating a metal shield.

Elron growled at the helicopters. The metal shell he had on began to expand, covering the rest of his body, making him look like a giant metal robot. His eyes were even covered, but the metal around them shone red, so he could still see.

He flicked his tail forward. Large metal spikes flew from them, impaling the front helicopter. It didn't do any real damage, he had missed all the majer parts of the copter. He looked down towards the human. The red devise in his head made him do this, if it had been his choice he would have left the human to die.

He sighed a dragonic sigh and bullets pinged of his metal shield. He gripped the human in his front claws, and flew into the air, beeting his wings furiously. In his metal form he found it a lot harder to fly, he could still do it, but he was exhausted a lot quicker. As he neared the first helicopter it swurved out of the way. Elron didn't bother to follow and kept flying towards the base, trying to loose the copters. They went after him.

The metal was making him go a lot slower and he growled. If he didn't have it he would have long distanced himself from the helicopters. However if he didn't have it he would probably be riddled with bullet holes. A bullet pinged of his snout, reminding him of that fact, so he kept on flying, but the helicopters were gaining, bullets were hitting him everywhere, creating a spark everytim they did, but he hardly felt it.

As they drew closer Elron decided it was time for a different cause of action. He flipped in the air, upside down, facing toward the copters. He opened his mouth and shot out a glob of liquid iron. It hit the window of the helicopter, covering the whole thing, then it soldified. Elron heard a surprised shout from the cockpit.

He smiled and flew towards the helicopter, turning himself the right way round. The helicopter was surprisinly still flying towards him.

'Stupid humans,' he thought.

He tilted to his side, and slammed his wings into the front of the cockpit. His wing cut right through the helicopter and he kept flying, cutting the metal around the cockpit. When he reached the blades that kept the copter in the air, they smashed into his wing, and didn't so much as dent it, instead they snapped off. When he reached the end he renched his wing from the helicopter, and watched it fall, in two completely equal peices.

He turned towards the other helicopter. It opened fire, the bullets hitting him in the shoulder and face, one it the device in his head, but it just pinged off. The pilot seemed to realise that the bullets weren't doing anything. He opened another hatch in his controls and pressed a red button. Two missiles flew from the copter's belly.

Elron growled, he hated missiles. He spun avoiding one, then chopping it in half with his wing. He knew they were homing missiles so he didn't bother to leave them. He dodged the second one, cutting it in half as well. He then opened his mouth and let loose a torrent of small silver spikes, almost like bullets. They rained in on the cockpit, shattering the glass. The pilot ducked under the control panel for cover. He reached for a radio.

"Mayday, mayday," he said, "Going down, I repeat, going down. We have been attacked by what appears to be a robot dragon. I repeat a robot dragon. Over."

He listened for the reply, but Elron didn't give him the chance. He flew towards the helicopter, the end of his tail seemed to morf into spinning blades. He swung at the cockpit, cutting it clean in half, along with the human inside. As the helicopter started to fall he rose above it, and let loose a stream of liquid metal onto the helicopter blades. As the metal froze the helicopter blades were trapped, forzen in metal. The helicopter fell towards the ground, followed by a massive explosion.

Elron's metal shell retracted, revealing the yellow scales underneath. He started to fly towards the army base as quickly as he could. If all went well he would be there by the end of the day.
