94. Cake Rhymes With Snake
Tristan was watching Vienna with satisfaction. He was standing leaning to the wall as he was watching her redecorating her cake for the third time. He had made her recite some of the key rules about wars at survival camp verbally and had made her write some of them on the cake too... Three times he had asked her to do that. He liked watching her getting covered in icing sugar and cream. She looked so adorable and he was enjoying himself watching her. When she was tired of reciting the rules, he had gladly handed her a bottle of water and had watched her drink slowly and gracefully. He had now been almost satisfied she knew the rules.
Tristan ordered " Enough Vienna... You have decorated it well. I am not going to ask you to decorate it again."
Vienna straightened up on her chair as she touched a strand of her hair and put it behind her ear. In the process she put some cream on her cheek.
Tristan was dying there. He would have loved to kiss away the cream off her cheek but she was not ready for that. She looked so adorable. He didn't want her to get changed.
Tristan instructed "Can you collect all the cream and icing you have put on top the cake. Put it on a plate. I will have the cream ." He then thought to himself " I only want what your hands have touched.
Vienna complied and picked up a plate and carefully with a knife collected all the cream on top. She offered the plate to Tristan who was standing at the other side of the table.
Tristan took the plate from her hand. He then found himself not able to resist. He reached his hand towards her cheek. " You have some cream on your cheek. May I get it."
Vienna quickly wiped her cheek before Tristan could and his heart melted as she put her finger that was covered in cream in her mouth. He was dying. He was sure when he married her he was going to have some cake decorating sessions with her and vowed to make sure he made all his dreams come true then. For now Vienna just made him watch what he couldn't touch and couldn't taste.
Tristan dipped his spoon in the cream and put it in his mouth. It tasted heavenly. Vienna had made the cream with the Irish cream. He was trying to memorise the cake's taste.
Tristan asked " Would you like to try some of the cake corporal ?"
Vienna shrugged " I am fine... sergeant..."
Tristan spoke " You don't want cake or you don't want to taste this cake..."
Vienna knew she was caught " I ... don't want this cake..."
Tristan asked " Why not?"
Vienna replied honestly " I don't want to have this cake that I decorated in a cell ... I am under arrest... The rules state nothing is free. No privilege is free in prison and has a cost. I can't trust the cake."
Tristan nodded " Good. You are learning your lesson. You don't trust what you shouldn't meant to.... But this cake is no poison.. What if I told you I got it from an award winning cake shop in New York? Try a piece. This is not part of the test... If I test you, trust me you won't know you are being tested. Rules also say when you are under arrest, you comply with what your superior tells you. This is not captivity. This is arrest. You betrayed your team and got yourself captured by the enemy. If they arrested you then you shouldn't have trusted what they asked you to do... But this is your own team's cell. Rules are different. I make the rules as your sergeant...."
Vienna looked at the cake and whispered " I am fine..." she didn't trust Tristan not to be testing her. She was meant to be under arrest... But this looked like a party.
Tristan sighed " Fine. If you don't want the cake, I will give you something else that rhymes with it. Cake rhymes with snake..."
Vienna looked up sharply in horror " No..."
Tristan chuckled " Have a piece then or I will make you eat snakes."
Vienna gulped looking horrified not able to form words. She took a step backwards looking at Tristan cautiously as though she was looking at a predator that was about to pounce on his prey.
Tristan was amused and gave her a faint smile " Come on. You don't think I will make you eat snakes. Do you? That was a joke..." He then started walking towards her. He picked up a plate and cut a piece carefully and placed it on a plate as he turned to Vienna " I have the cream you made. Now have the cake that I got here. It's a trust exercise. You trust Letizia with your life but don't trust me with yours when I tell you to have a cake. ... You are under arrest but this is an unofficial arrangement. It's just you and me. You don't have to worry about any rules except the ones I make for you right now. Have some cake. It's an order. Not a request. Obey my order..." He emphasised on his last sentence. He then offered the plate to Vienna and daring her to defy him with his look he was giving her.
Vienna didn't want to have any cake in a cell. This was a cell. She was under arrest. But when he said it was an order she decided to comply. She didn't dare say no. She took the plate from Tristan's hand and picked up a fork. She sat down and placed the plate in front of her.
Tristan started circling her as he dipped his fork in the cream and put it in his mouth as he watched her have the cake.
Vienna had never had a cake tasting so delicious. She couldn't help compliment it " It is very tasty...."
Tristan told himself " Not as tasty as the cream you have made..."
Tristan was tempted to ask her to make more cream but this was enough. He had made her do too much already in his eyes. He knew she loved baking and decorating. She was an artist after all. Even in a serious situation like this he felt like he only wanted to either spend time doing what she loved or what he loved. But he had to do the business too.
He put down his plate and as Vienna finished eating, he ordered " Now, get up and follow me corporal."
Tristan lead the way as he walked to the door. He unlocked the door and Vienna walked behind him. She was not sure what was next. He made his way down the corridors and Vienna followed.
Tristan stated " Do you know where we are going?"
Vienna answered "no."
Tristan stated " I might throw you in a room full of snakes...."
Vienna trembled and looked up worriedly and Tristan felt her nervousness. " Snakes... I am so sorry for not having the cake when you asked.."
Tristan replied " That was a joke. Don't you trust me?"
Vienna wasn't sure what to expect. She trusted him.
Tristan walked to a metal door and opened it " After you..."
Vienna noticed the room was dark. She asked " Can I use my torch?"
Tristan liked how Vienna remembered her lesson. He had advised her to use her torch in the dark and she recalled that. That was a good sign. He stated " There is no need. There is a light switch on the wall as you enter..." He then reached his hand behind the wall as he was holding the door open and lights came on. He turned to Vienna "Is that bright enough for you?" He then thought to himself " Your brightness is enough for me. I would need no light when you are with me."
Vienna nodded and walked in slowly and carefully. There was a set of stairs that lead down.
Tristan instructed " Go down the stairs." He then closed the door soundly which meant Vienna jump. She turned and walked slowly down the stairs. Her heart was beating fast. She had no idea where they were going.
Tristan noticed Vienna's hesitation and she was almost trembling as she was holding the rails to the stairs. It wasn't his intention to scare her off. He just wanted to talk to her and make her think about the events of that day. So he decided to end her agony and stated " We are going to no torture chamber Vienna .. no need to be nervous. We are going to my thinking space..."
Vienna stopped in her tracks trying to make sense of what Tristan said. They had reached the end of the stairs and there was another metal door. Vienna turned to Tristan waiting for instructions. She was expecting the worst. She was under arrest after all.
Tristan walked to the door and unlocked it. He opened the door and turned on the switch " Here. There is no darkness. After you..."
Vienna slowly and cautiously walked in the room. She was shocked to see a basketball court in an oval shape room that had curtains instead of walls. As she walked in looking around suspiciously, she heard the sound of a ball hitting the ground and his footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw him playing with the basketball.
Tristan looked up " Catch." He then threw the ball towards Vienna and she caught it smoothly. Vienna stood frozen with the ball in her hand. What did he want?
Tristan stated " I give you three tries to get past me and score. If you get one right, I will grant you one wish. Any wish you want and any time you want it. But it won't be today. But if you lose, you will grant me one wish when I want it... Do you agree? You don't have to say yes..."
Vienna was confused. What kind of arrest was this? She was meant to be arrested and reprimanded but she was treated differently to everyone else by Tristan... Still she was keeping her guard up. She expected the worst to happen in the dungeon. She had betrayed her team. She deserved every consequence but she had no idea what the consequence was and the waif was agonising. But now she had no time to worry about that. She had other worries. Like what Tristan was asking.
Tristan took a few steps closer to her as he put his hand behind his back. He didn't like to be kept waiting and he certainly didn't like her to say no to him. So he raised his voice " Strike one. Don't keep me waiting...."
Vienna quickly responded " I am sorry... I .... accept..." She didn't feel like it was wise to refuse Tristan anything. She was in an unknown place underground at his mercy and he could do anything. She was under arrest.
Tristan gave her a smile " Good choice. I like that you don't mind challenging me... start it off then corporal... take me on. Try to get the ball past me, run to the other side and score. You have three tries. Every time I catch the ball, you lose."
Vienna nodded and watched cautiously as he opened his arms and took a defensive stance. They were in the middle of the field. Vienna watched him approach her. She dribbled with the ball and tried to bypass him. Within seconds it was over. He grabbed the hall off her and he took a shot from where they were. Vienna watched in amazement as Tristan managed to score from the middle of the field.
Tristan warned " Go get the ball, before I run to get it. Then you lose the second try too. I am not taking it easy on you Corporal ... You should try to win because I could be asking you for anything if I win..."
Vienna came out of her thoughts as she had been admiring his basketball skills. What was she thinking? Vienna ran back and grabbed the ball trying to find a way to focus on ways to dribble past him. But how could she? He wasn't even trying and he could beat her. She knew it. He got closer to her as she tried to dribble past him. He grabbed the ball off her this time but not as quickly aw last time. Vienna thanked the technique Viggo had taught her days ago.
Tristan eyed her suspiciously as he started dribbling around her " Who taught you this technique?"
Vienna answered " Viggo..."
Tristan raised an eyebrow " Really?" He then started dribbling past her and then he felt a shot of electricity through his arm as he felt her hand touch him. He felt every ounce of him screaming at him to stop, hug this girl and kiss her lips senseless. But of course he couldn't do that. He had to wait. He was frozen on his spot looking at her hand on his arm. Vienna felt his stare and let go whispering " Sorry."
Tristan gave her a mischievous and playful look " Foul, corporal... Its a penalty." He then gladly walked to the penalty spot and took aim feeling her eyes on him. He scored of course effortlessly. He was going easy here and not trying hard but it was time to raise the heat.
Tristan turned around after he scored a penalty " One more shot. That's it. If you fail to score, I get to have a woah you have to grant.... But this last shot is worth a lot... So let's make it challenging." He then turned around and walked to the corner of the room. He pulled on a string.
Vienna watched in confusion as the curtains around the room which were the walls, came down. She covered her mouth and screamed as she saw what was around the room. All around the room, was a glass cage for snakes. Everywhere she looked she saw snakes. She felt sick... She hated snakes. She was horrified. She looked at him and called his name " Tristan ... " That was all she could utter in her shocked state.. The snakes were swarming everywhere... What did he want to do? Was he going to throw her to them... She was certain he was because she called his name..
Tristan sucked in a deep breath " Strike two... you call me sergeant...." But on the inside he said to himself " Say my name again beautiful.... "
Vienna was looking around in horror and retreating as she felt intimidated. She didn't realise she had come close to him. Only when her back hit his hard chest she realised.
Tristan stiffened. She was killing him there. He stated " Strike three. You just bumped into me, your superior. Be careful where you walk...."
Vienna turned around as her lips were trembling. She said shakily " I am so sorry..."
Tristan stated " You will be writing lines after this to teach you not to get strikes when you are under arrest..."
Vienna was shocked " You are not throwing me to the snakes..."
Tristan stated " Why would I do that? You are mine... Why would I share you with the snakes... I didn't bring you here to throw you to snakes... I brought you here to make a point... This is our world... this basketball court is our world .... A bunch of hungry snakes are always around us and waiting to hurt us but we have a glass. We have a curtain. We protect ourselves... I loved how the first name that came to your mind was mine. Then you came close to me.... That's the right move... you came towards me and not towards the snakes... But how come when that snake, Corporal Marciano came close to you, you did not say my name.. You did not sound the alarm. You walked to the snake instead of walking to me and you dared defended her... She is a snake... she is no friend. She hasn't demonstrated that she is a friend so she is a foe. She must be treated like she is a snake ready to eat you ... You didn't hesitate to not sound the alarm on her and you gave yourself up to save her. You saved that snake from me... if one of these snakes attacked you, I would shoot them dead and you will thank me... But why did you not let me deal with corporal Marciano? I know... you see her as a friend.. She is not one until she proves to be one to you... Until then, you will not treat her like a friend.... Now let's get back to the game... Last game corporal... Try to get past me and score or I would win ... Then you will have to do as I say on one occasion... But if you win, I will grant you a wish and do as you say for once..."
