49. Teenage Drama
Vienna entered the drama studio after she had a few glasses of water and got some fresh air. As she walked back in the massive studio, she saw her brother and Tristan on the stage. She heard Tristan asking to act out the scene again. She cringed. She had opposed that scene for a reason. She couldn't stand the thought of her brother and Tristan to fight even if it was on the stage. She was contemplating to leave the studio again and come back when the scene was over. She was at the door so no one had noticed her as all students were looking to the stage. She watched in horror as Viggo and Tristan started circling each other as the scene started. Her heart was in her throat. She didn't like what she saw at all. She covered her mouth as she felt sick. She knew this was just a drama production but still she found the scene unbearable to watch. She watched as the two boys got closer. Just as the scene was about to start, the most unlikely person shouted " Stop." It was Vincenzo.
Azurine turned to Vincenzo " Why do you interrupt?" She then added her next sentence as she saw Vincenzo frowned at her tone " Well, I am sorry but we must rehearse. Would you explain why they should stop ... If you don't mind please."
Vincenzo gave her a hard look and stood up taking Letizia's hand in his " My scene is next and I don't have patience. Tristan proved his point. Now it's our turn. We only have 45 minutes."
Azurine didn't like facing off Vincenzo even though she disagreed. Watching Viggo on the stage was a treat for any girls in the room. The girls in the studio didn't look happy as she announced " Fine. Next scene. Thank you Viggo and Tristan."
Tristan walked off the stage and hit Vincenzo's shoulder as he got off the stage on his way "Since when are you so passionate about performing arts?"
Tristan had a point. Vincenzo always made fun of drama and only did it because he could and because it had good credits attached helping his scores.
Vincenzo hit his shoulder harder to his. " Since when my preferences have become a concern of yours?" He then walked past him as he lead Letizia to the stage.
Vienna took a breath of relief and walked to her seat smiling at Tristan who also took the seat opposite her. As he saw her smile at him all his frustrations evaporated. He sat down with content next to his girl watching the drama but of course Vincenzo had to make a statement of his own. Just as he was acting and Trent came on the state, Vincenzo punched him hard in his stomach even though it wasn't part of the scene. His message was clear. If Tristan beat up his little brother, Vincenzo was going to after his little brother. Out of the people in the room, Vincenzo must have been the only one who knew he hadn't acted and it was real what had happened. Vincenzo and him had spent hours and hours training together for years in their school clubs. They knew each others moves like the bank of their hands. That was part of their rivalry. Tristan was also protective of his family members like Vincenzo. However, in Tristan's view, Vincenzo took protectiveness and turned it into control too. He was a total controlling maniac in every way and his treatment of his family was no exception.
Azurine stood up and objected " Vincenzo that wasn't part of the scene."
Vincenzo chuckled darkly " Oh really? Just because he is now your dancing partner doesn't mean you should give him special treatment. You should add this to the script. I think it fits. This is a west side story adaptation. "Don't you think it's fitting to have more fight scenes?"
Azurine sat down " I am not convinced its a good idea. Go on now. Continue rehearsing .., please." Of course she had to be polite even though Vincenzo didn't deserve it for changing the script.
Vincenzo nodded " Fine. I will convince you." He then carried on with his lines and again hit Trent later on making Azurine sigh in frustration. " I will consider it Vincenzo. Please don't change the script again."
Trent looked at Azurine and then at Vincenzo. He couldn't even speak from the force he was hit. He held his stomach on the floor holding his breath from the pain.
Vincenzo spoke matter of factly " He sure can act the part."
Trent stood up slowly and looked at Vincenzo warily as they carried on rehearsing. Once they finished their scene, Vincenzo turned to Azurine "I think, I would like to redo this scene maybe to convince you of my input..."
Azurine stood up "As you said, time is short. We cant change the script simply. It would need Edward's input too. I will have a think. Thank you." She then turned around "Tristan and Vienna, you are up next."
Tristan gave Vincenzo deadly looks as he got up from his seat hand in hand with Vienna walking to the stage to rehearse their lines.
Tristan muttered as he walked past Vincenzo " You think you are funny? Repeating my words...."
Vincenzo had a dark smile on his face " Your act really inspired me Tristan. What can I say?" He then laughed to himself as he sat down next to Letizia who looked at him with questioning eyes "Did you really have to hit Trent because he hit your brother?" As they had watched Viggo and Tristan's rehearsal, she had heard all the plans Vincenzo had for Trent if Tristan went too far. Luckily Azurine hadn't allowed them to repeat. She didn't get it though. Viggo seemed fine.
Vincenzo turned to her "Well, you wont understand. You have no siblings."
Letizia crossed her arms over her chest and looked at the stage as Vienna and Tristan started rehearsing for the whole room "Well, your brother seemed like he doesn't need help. He is made of rock just like you. I don't know what Mrs Rosario gives you for dinner but you two are so muscular."
Vincenzo shrugged "We work out. Simple."
Letizia spoke "What baffles me is that ... you are a rough tough one. You don't act like the type who goes to his brother's rescue... But then you beat up Trent."
Vincenzo turned to her "Well, you thought wrong. Didn't you? Viggo, is my blood."
Letizia laughed at the way he sounded so serious "Ok."
Vincenzo frowned "What's funny?"
Letizia smiled "How serious you are. This is just school."
Vincenzo stated "Again, you are wrong again. This is no school This is a criminal boot camp."
Letizia stated "I have never heard of such thing."
Vincenzo stated "You were never meant to."
Letizia sighed and looked on the stage trying to ignore Vincenzo. She was amazed by Vienna's acting skills "Wow, your sister is so good in acting..."
Vincenzo whispered back "Of course, she loves artistic nonsense. She likes wasting her time on these not so important subjects."
Letizia sighed "She is good at all the core subjects from what I have seen on the noticeboard rankings. She is doing really well based on the scoreboard in her year. So what's wrong with spending time on the optional subjects and extra credit units? Its not like her core academic subjects suffer."
Vincenzo spoke "So you do agree that artistic nonsense is a waste of time?"
Letizia shrugged "Well, my father says core subjects are all that can get you to college. I want to study Economics. So I know drama wont take me anywhere. I wouldn't say art is waste of time but I would give it up if it made my core subject grades suffer. I just wish you were more optimistic when thinking about Vienna. Your sister works very hard. Its not easy for her being a student council member and a basketball captain...."
Vincenzo looked at the stage watching her sister and Tristan rehearsing with a hard look in his eyes "It is not only a total waste of her time but can have consequences too. If she spent more time on her core subjects, she wouldn't have needed any help at all, like me. Then Viggo wouldn't have recruited Edward Blake to assist her with her work and the raging bull, Tristan wouldn't have made his not so convenient interest in my sister known to throw Edward out of the scene..."
Letizia spoke "Well, she doesn't complain at all about Tristan. When we are in girl's common room, I have never heard her say anything negative about Tristan. I am sure she would have said something if she wasn't happy with Tristan coming onto her. Your sister is very honest like your mother...."
Vincenzo turned to her "What do you know about my mother?... "
Letizia was taken back " What's your problem with her ? Everyone speaks highly of her except you...She is the perfect mother. What do you want her to do for you that she doesn't do already for you and your siblings?"
Vincenzo stated "Maybe that's it. She does more than she should. Especially she should stop getting on my case. I am the one she doesn't approve of the most. Hell breaks loose if I do something against her wishes. She goes straight to my father and I get the lecture of my life. My father lectures me that I am the oldest child and my mother, naturally has higher expectations of me. He tells me that my siblings look up to me and my mother needs me to be perfect for them to follow my example... Well, the ideal son my mother wants, is not me. She just has a hard time accepting that I am not Viggo."
Letizia sighed " I don't think she wants you to be Viggo. She wants you to be nicer."
Vincenzo looked at Letizia and hesitated as he seemed in thought. He then looked at her deeply into her eyes "What do you want me to be?"
Letizia didn't expect him to ask her that question. She voiced her thoughts "I don't think you even care about what other people think..."
Vincenzo frowned "I care about what you think..."
Letizia felt abit uneasy with his penetrating stare. It was a serious question. She looked around the room and at how everyone was immersed in the play. She then took a deep breath as she thought hard. She turned to Vincenzo " I want you to be yourself...."
Vincenzo smiled in satisfaction "That's all I needed to hear." He then turned to look at the rehearsals on the stage.
Letizia whispered "I didn't finish. I want you to be yourself but does it kill you to be nicer?"
Vincenzo stated "I don't think that's an option. The word "nice" is meaningless to me. I am nice to you. That's as nice as I get."
Letizia sighed and looked on at the rehearsals. His mind was just impossible to penetrate sometimes.
After the rehearsals finished, it was time for after school activities mainly. As Letizia started to leave, she found Vincenzo being called by Tristan to a corner as their gangs were gathering in a corner.
Letizia frowned "Why is Tristan staying? Don't you people have a game coming up next week? I thought you would be sprinting to the changing room."
Vincenzo turned to her " I have a team meeting. You don't come back here. It won't take long or rather I hope Tristan doesn't take long. You should go. I insist."
She wondered what they were plotting as the students were one by one leaving. They were remaining behind. She contemplated to stay but could hear the threat behind his words. She didn't want another confrontation with Tristan. Her personality clashed with his. She reluctantly walked away to the exit.
Tristan made sure, Vienna left the room and then he nodded to Sebastiano who stopped Edward Blake from walking outside. Sebastiano asked "Do you have a minute Edward?"
Edward stuttered "Sure." As if he could say no to this guy. Sebastiano was Tristan's cousin afterall and the most sadistic member of his gang.
Sebastiano looked past him "Walk back the way you just came."
Edward barced himself. He was going to be put on trial. He looked at the exit door that he didn't manage to reach as the last of students left. He turned and saw Tristan O'Neil leaning to the edge of the stage. He looked like an emperor looking at him like he was next for execution. He took steps slowly towards the gang who were standing towards the end of the stage as he swallowed hard. What if he could run? As if? They could catch him and would have made it worse for him. He stopped in his tracks as he heard the exit door close soundly as Sebastian taunted from behind him "Everyone is gone now. Get ready to defend your case."
Edward looked at all the boys there. Only Viggo and Stefano were the ones who nodded at him with a weak smile. Of course they were the exceptions who could help him out if needed.
Tristan stated "You keep us waiting here, we make you wait here longer. Your choice. Come closer Edward."
The gang parted slightly and Edward spotted the chair that the gang had blocked. It was a proper trial. He cringed. If he sat down on that chair, he was not going to get up for sure. They were going to hurt him properly.
Edward was close to crying. What the captain of the day, Tristan was planning to do to him? But there was of course Vincenzo, vice captain who was sitting on the edge of the stage impatiently looking at his watch. "Get it over and done with quickly will you." He then stared at Edward "You are taking your time walking slowly. When you walked up to my sister in the cafeteria, you were much faster."
At the mention of Vienna Tristan gave Edward a hard look "He is right... You touched my girl ..."
Edward gulped. He was so dead.
Tristan crossed his arms over his chest as he was still leaning to the stage "You have to answer to me now. You have to pay even if Vienna did make me lighten up your sentence."
Edward closed his eyes. He wished he had written his will. He opened his eyes and tried to be brave.
Suddenly Edward heard the door open from behind him and heard Azurine's voice "Thanks for helping me. I totally forgot to bring the costumes, Vienna"
Then he heard her voice " What's going on here?... Tristan."
Edward turned around and saw Vienna looking shocked at the door with Azurine.
Tristan answered as he didn't move from his spot. "I need to talk to Edward Vienna. I told you, I need to explain him the rules and there are some new issues to be discussed with him."
Vienna walked to Tristan but Azurine held her hand "Vienna lets go. We can come back later."
Vienna hesitated. She knew Edward had done it now. It wasn't just Tristan who had a vendetta with him. Edward had also managed to insult some of the other guys on the gang like Alton and Sebastiano too. Somehow he had managed it during the rehearsals, whether it was for tripping them with throwing equipment their way or by giving them the wrong lines ad even spilling some white chalk powder on them while he was in charge of the stage. forcing them to get changed. She felt guilty because it all seemed to have happened when she had waved at him during rehearsals or when she was around him for any reason.
Edward was looking between Vienna and Tristan trying to think what was going to be his fate and who was going to be the biggest decider.
Tristan narrowed his eyes at Azurine "Let go of her hand Azurine."
Azurine sighed "Sorry."
Vienna hesitated walking to Tristan now trying to decide what was best to do to not make things worse. She couldn't help smile weakly at Edward "Hi Edward. Are you okay?" She couldn't help it. He looked so helpless in the middle of the room as a silent gang were watching him awaiting their captain's orders.
Edward couldn't believe she had asked him how he was right in front of Tristan. He was dead. He was a certain now. He saw Tristan's death stare on him.
Tristan took a few steps away from the stage as he held his fist in his hand. He looked at Vienna "I think, Vienna you should go with Azurine."
Vienna was finding it hard to speak when he looked at her like that.
