28. Christmas Eve 1979 (Part 3)
Tristan was looking around Vienna's room as he was waiting for her. She had gone to the kitchen to get some hot pastries out of the oven helping her mother who had just arrived back. He waited inside her room deliberately. He liked looking at her room. He smiled at how her room hadn't changed much. He loved her discipline and tidiness. She also had very good taste in interior design and decorations. She was an intelligent artist. He got curious with her shopping bags. As he was looking through one of her shopping bags that had clothes inside, he heard her enter the room. She announced "Pastiries are ready. I am brewing some coffee so you can have some hot drink with a pastry before you leave me."
Tristan looked at her dress that he was holding in his hand "Who said I am leaving you?"
Vienna raised an eyebrow as she entered and closed the door behind her "Tristan. You are going to your family home tonight. Right?"
Tristan turned to her "I really like this dress. Can you try it on Vienna?"
Vienna said "My mum doesn't like it. It's one of the dresses I picked."
Tristan said "I think it would look great on you."
She smiled and grabbed the dress from his hands "Ok. I will try it." She then waited for him.
Tristan said "Ok. I get it. You don't want to go to the bathroom in your own room to change." He then turned around and started looking at her other shopping bags "When did you buy all this?" He said.
Vienna started getting changed slowly "Yesterday. But I didn't get the chance to unpack it. I was busy."
Tristan looked at a coat that he pulled out "I love this coat too. It's creamy white. It suites you.... What were you busy with?"
Vienna cleared her throat "You can turn around now."
Tristan turned around. He sucked in a breath "You look beautiful and elegant... Like always. Wear this coat. It's a nice outfit for tonight's Christmas mass church service."
Vienna smiled and took the coat from his hand "You always exaggerate. It's my normal style of clothes I wear."
As Vienna started wearing the coat, Tristan started walking slowly around her "So. I asked you what have you been busy with? Tell me."
Vienna shrugged as she was buttoning up the coat "All kinds... The past few days have been busy with people."
Tristan stood in front of her and smiled as he placed the hood of the coat on her head "You look adorable." He then leaned close and kissed her cheek gently as he whispered "Tell me what kept you busy that wasn't me. I am starting to get jealous." He then slightly pulled away and looked into her eyes expectantly and his warning tone wasn't missed by Vienna. She felt his jealousy.
Vienna sighed "Tristan. You don't need to feel jealous. I was busy with pre-semester project work. I was working with Reagan."
Tristan's eyes flashed "Which Reagan?"
Vienna shrugged "Reagan O'Reily."
Tristan asked "How much do you know about her?"
Vienna explained "She is my new best friend. She will be in my art school. I met her a few times recently. Her family live in Philadelphia but she is going to be in my art school this term. After your father took over the school her parents decided to transfer her there. Her family are staying in New York during Christmas because of her grandparents live in New York."
Tristan frowned "I didn't mean her background. I mean how much do you know her personally? You just met her... She should know to keep her distance."
Vienna was surprised "Why? What do you mean? She is Irish. Her family are the top Irish crime family in Philadelphia but they are allies with your uncle... I know her family has influence in Philadelphia like how your uncle influences in Boston and New York but I think there is respect between us. She is very respectful. Don't you trust her?"
Tristan stated "Yes I do ... But I don't like her around you."
Vienna asked "Why not?"
Tristan said "Because she likes Viggo."
Vienna gasped "What? She never told me that."
Tristan said "Of course. She won't discuss this personal matter with you unless she feels the need..."
Vienna walked closer to Tristan and looked up into his eyes "What do you mean by this personal matter? Why do you call it a matter? She fancies Viggo. It's quite common. Many girls fancy Viggo. I just didn't think she would fancy him when she has hardly met him."
Tristan said "This matter is quite deeper than you think Vienna. Your brother goes on business trips with your father. That's when he meets people too you know. Viggo met her a couple of times while on business. She came onto him but he politely refused. If her parents weren't influential I would have properly gone after her for coming onto Viggo when she was told clearly he is taken. The O'Reilys do rule many strategic places in Philadelphia and even in Chicago. They are a top Irish family in the world of crime and untouchable. I can't cause tension for this matter and have to only act if it's urgent. Just keep me informed if she makes you ever uncomfortable. She wouldn't dare hurt you in any way. She is probably trying to get close to Viggo through you. Let me know if she bothers you."
Vienna said "It doesn't add up. She is so nice. She doesn't seem bad. She is a friend. I don't think she is using me to get to Viggo."
Tristan said "It's good. She is friendly to you. In real life she is not very nice actually. She could make Angelia's life hell if she wished it. I say Angelia shouldn't join that art school this term. I know Viggo wants to integrate her there. But Angelia won't last long there is Reagan targets her. Angelia has been through enough as it is to have a rival like her knocking on her door. Angelia has to fight for her man. Watch out for Angelia Vienna. You are the one who can. Tell me if Reagan is trouble. I can get my father to kick her out but if you ask me some bad blood is healthy. Reagan is obsessed with Viggo. This has to be sorted. If Angelia doesn't fight for her man then Reagan may win."
Vienna argued "Viggo won't ever leave Angelia."
Tristan said "But Angelia could. If she feels she is not good enough. Right now she is fragile. I wouldn't put it past Reagan to try to hurt her and get her to leave Viggo. Be wary of Reagan. She wouldn't dare hurt you because she knows who your brother is and knows who I am. You are safe. You may ask why not just fix the matter and keep her away. But some matters can't be fixed with a fast track solution. This is not fixable with a quick blackmail or any violence. This problem won't go away for Angelia unless she faces it. Reagan wants Viggo and will do anything to get him. She will fight ... as hard as any Irish would. She can't be threatened, blackmailed or silenced. She won't go away. She is not in the same category as Edward Blake."
Vienna visibly shook and looked away as she crossed her arms over her chest "Edward is not a problem....."
Tristan said "Yes. Let's hope he keeps it that way because I will kill him if he becomes a problem."
Vienna felt cold. She believed Tristan. She believed every word. She sighed and looked up into his eyes "Tristan. Let's not talk about this. It's Christmas Eve."
Tristan said "I agree. It's Christmas Eve. I want to take you to my place for tonight. Do you think your father will be ok with that?"
Vienna almost choked "Tristan. My father won't let you. We are always together for Christmas. I would see you at the church service tonight...."
Tristan smiled "That has been the plan ... until I came to see you. I don't think I can keep away from you this Christmas."
Vienna said "Tristan... You can't say that. My father is strict for Christmas. Your uncle already invited our family to join yours this Christmas and my father said no."
Tristan said "Maybe I need to kidnap you and keep you at ransom. Then your family will join ours. Not a bad idea."
Vienna took a step backwards "You can't be serious."
Tristan took a step towards her and said "Why not? I can just grab you and run."
Vienna bit her lip and backed away "Tristan..."
Tristan said "Yes Vienna..." He then took a step towards her.
Vienna said "I will fight you." She then took a fighting posture.
Tristan smiled "Is this what Viggo taught you to do if someone tried to steal you away? You can't stop me like this." He then managed to walk around her and grab her hands from behind "See. I told you. Now you are my captive."
Vienna breathed "Let me go. Please."
Tristan let her go but then turned her around and put his arms around her as he looked into her eyes "I am just messing with you Vienna. I want you with me this Christmas. But I won't steal you away... There are other ways to try and convince your father to break his traditions. We can join together. Maybe not for the turkey but we can join."
Vienna said "Tristan. My father doesn't like it. You can't push it. He can get mad. Your uncle asked my father to attend the food and drinks reception after church tonight and he even said no to that."
Tristan said "I will convince him to let others except rosarios in his circle in Christmas. We are family." Tristan then looked outside the window "Your father seems to be here. I go talk to him."
Vienna said "Tristan...."
Tristan kissed her lips "I will be back." He then pulled away and left her. Vienna taught over his words as he left closing the door. She became thoughtful. She walked to her desk and sat down. She rested her head on the table thinking of everything.
Minutes later she heard a knock on the door. She looked up. It was her mother who entered "Sweetie. Reagan is here. She is in the living room."
Vienna spotter Reagan's mum with her mother outside "Hi Ms O'Reily." She smiled back at her.
Vienna sighed "I am coming mum." She got changed to diffract clothes and then she walked out of her room and went to the living room.
Reagan was sitting alone next to the tree with a present in her lap. Reagan's mother was probably in the TV room with her mother. At seeing Vienna she stood up and held up her present. "Hi. I brought you my present."
Vienna said "Thank you Reagan. You shouldn't have." She then took the present and put it next to the tree.
Vienna said "Your present is in my room. I will get it for you. Do you want some coffee?"
Reagan nodded "Sure."
Vienna said "Let's go." She then accompanied her to the kitchen and asked her to sit in the dining area as she poured her some coffee."
As Vienna turned around she noticed Reagan wasn't sitting down. She was looking at a family portrait. She was looking at Viggo.
Vienna cleared her throat "I leave your coffee on the table. Why don't you take a seat? It must have been cold out there . Why don't you have some hot drink to warm you up."
Reagan didn't turn from the portrait as she spoke " I am used to the cold. I love the cold actually. When was this picture taken?"
Vienna put the coffee mug on the table and said "Not sure. Maybe five years ago."
Reagan turned around and walked to the table. She picked up the coffee mug and inhaled "Wow. It smells great. What kind of coffee is it?"
Vienna said "A normal type. Angelia likes it. You know my brother's girlfriend." Vienna wanted to see Reagan's reaction and she wasn't disappointed.
Reagan's eyes hardened "I say she has great taste. She chooses the best of the best. I would love to meet her in the art school. One of the reasons I transferred was to meet new people."
Vienna said "She is very kind. You would like her. She is very likeable." There was nothing else to say about Angelia. How could anyone not like her?
Reagan gave her a hard look "I think my definition of likability is different when it comes to certain individuals. We will see."
Vienna felt a bit awkward "Ah. Let me get your present before I forget. Please wait here." She then walked away.
Minutes later Viggo walked into the kitchen and saw Reagan of all the people drinking coffee sitting behind a table. He gave her a polite node and then walked to the fridge and opened it. He was about to grab a soda when Reagan said "Can I have some more milk please with my coffee?"
Viggo turned to her "Sure." He then grabbed the milk bottle.
Reagan stood up and walked to him "Thank you Viggo." She then reached for the milk and her fingers touched his as she grabbed the bottle from him.
Viggo's expression remained passive as she said "Wow. You have a warm hand."
Viggo said "You have a cold hand." He then turned to the fridge and took out a soda can. He closed the fridge door and noticed she was watching him with the milk bottle in her hand "Do you want anything else?"
Reagan said "Sure I do. But he is unavailable right now."
Viggo sighed "Reagan. Stop right there. I thought we have gone over this."
Reagan said with a sweet smile "We have gone over it but it doesn't mean it's over Viggo. It will never be over."
Viggo said "But it is. Reagan. You are an intelligent girl. I am taken. Why do you not let go?" He was polite. He had to be. He felt sorry for Reagan. She wasn't the only girl who had eyes for him. He was appealing to ladies for some reason. Maybe it was his uncle Angelo's and uncle costanzos genes. He had said no to many girls. But Reagan was one who never gave up. She never stopped because simply she didn't need to. Threats couldn't work on her. She just had to be civil and diplomatic.
Reagan said "You are intelligent too. So you must know the answer to your question already. I fight for my man ... within the rules of course... ." She added the last part as a caution. Even she knew not to threaten a Rosario directly.
Viggo said "If you break any rules, so will I Reagan. So will I. A lawless Rosario will be going rogue if you cross the line. You don't want that. Do you Reagan?"
Reagan then took a step closer to him and whispered "I love a man with a backbone like you. You can go rogue anytime.... Viggo... You are too handsome to be wasted on her." She then reached her hand up and touched his biceps gently.
Viggo took a step away and kept telling himself "Don't slap her. She is a girl." She invaded his privacy. He then sighed "You are lucky Reagan. Very lucky... Dont push me Reagan. I am taken. Accept it." He then shook his head as he walked away.
Reagan whispered "I fight it."
