16. Exchanging Views
Vienna was laying on her stomach on her bed drawing while glancing at Tristan who was looking around the room. They had a lovely breakfast in her room that he had brought in with a picnic basket. Then they were just hanging out. Vienna really liked the interesting design of the hotel room she was residing in so she had decided to draw the room but of course she was drawing Tristan in the view too.
Vienna looked at Tristan as she was drawing "Tristan. Why don't you take a seat? I am ready to draw you in this scene."
Tristan turned to her and smiled as he walked to her. He grabbed a chair and sat right in front of her bed blocking her view "Is this close enough for you?"
Vienna gave him an annoyed look "Tristan... What are you doing?"
Tristan said "Should I come closer then?"
Vienna sighed "You are blocking me..."
He brought his chair closer "You are an artist. Nothing can come in your way."
Vienna nodded "Point taken. Go abit further away."
Tristan said "Draw me from here but with a far view..."
Vienna asked "Tristan why are you being difficult? I can be too. I am going into protesting mode..."
Tristan smiled " I am insisting then. You are no quitter Vienna."
Vienna replied " Sit still at least. You used to be better at posing. Now you can't stop moving and make drawing difficult."
Tristan stated " You are not the same artist you used to be either... You are much better. So you need a challenge..."
Vienna looked up " You don't believe that... You really don't mean that. If you wanted me to be challenged you wouldn't have been so protective. You don't even like it that I ever considered going abroad. Actions speak louder than words Tristan. If you believe I need a challenge then you will let me challenge myself..."
Tristan replied " Or I will give you a challenge."
Vienna sighed " Come on Tristan. You still are very protective. Let me fight my own battles. You can't save me from the world...."
Tristan said " Vienna. You are my girl. I will protect you but I will try to never come between you and what you want to achieve unless you are at risk. I am here to help you. We are a team."
Vienna argued " But even your own sister is allowed to do things that you won't let me. You don't try to stop her when she takes risks."
Tristan replied " Vienna. I don't deny my sister lives differently than you. But you don't have to be like her. You look around you and you feel you should be like others. You are perfect the way you are. What my sister does makes her happy. But you don't have to do what she does to make other people happy. You need to do what makes you happy."
Vienna sighed as she looked down at drawing " I am happy now... But..."
Tristan asked "But what? There is so much pressure on you to be like your brothers? Is that it Vienna? Your brothers have their own path and you have your own. What your brothers do makes them happy. You need to stop comparing yourself to others and gain some self confidence. Don't ever do anything to please other people."
Vienna glanced at Tristan " Are you telling me you never did anything to make your family happy?"
Tristan said " Keeping myself alive and protecting the people I love makes my family content. I need to survive to make my family happy. But I am a first born heir in a family of underground crime lords. You don't have the same responsibilities as me. You have different ones..."
Vienna raised an eyebrow " What are those responsibilities in your view?"
Tristan pretended to think " Well. You need to do as I say..."
Vienna gasped " Tristan..."
Tristan chuckled " I am joking. You don't need to do as I say... You need to do as I command. I am your king and you are my queen." He then winked.
Vienna smiled at his joke and rolled her eyes " I am no queen."
Tristan said " You keep telling yourself that Vienna.
Vienna sighed " You didn't try to stop her when she went to Italy."
Tristan argued "She couldn't stand being here. Now I know your big brother was the cause of her wanting to leave... Don't try to be like her. It's not a competition...."
Vienna asked " Really? So how come you are always competing with Vincenzo on anything? You do everything he does."
Tristan said " Not everything. I can't be like your brother and neither do I wish to be... If it was true then I would have broken your clipboard and pen. Your brother and I are rivals. You and Clarissa are not. Your brother could wipe my family out. He has the capability. I can't afford to not prepare properly to face the threats that he poses. In order to defend my family I need to be at his level."
Vienna said " How can you say that! He won't wipe out your family."
Tristan replied " He can. He may not unless he is a given reason to. I will have to hurt his family if he hurts mine. I told him if he hurts Clarissa then he won't like the consequences."
Vienna shuddered " Don't speak like that Tristan."
Tristan stated " I am sorry Vienna. But this is a tough world. I can't be soft. Neither can he."
Vienna argued " So why aren't I allowed to put myself in tougher situations that others do? Why can't I go abroad like your sister?"
Tristan sighed " Vienna. You are doing it for the wrong reasons. You don't need to do anything just because others do. Besides, what my sister does is not tough for her. It makes her happy to do it so she does it Vienna. It's not tough for her and neither does she want to have a tough time. We never choose to have a tough time. It happens when we least expect it. Tell me what makes you happy Vienna? What is it that would make you satisfied?"
Vienna said " Honestly... I dont know... Sometimes its so hard to know what I want. I have too many choices. More than what I need. Sometimes I wish I had one choice but right now I can do anything. My friends have their lives planned. Some like to travel the world. Some want to join hollywood. Some like to work at the wall street and some like to be in business... But I just want to college and then after that all I know is that... I just ... want to be close to my family and also ... start a family like my own." She then blushed and looked away as she asked "What makes you happy Tristan? You said protecting your family but there must be more..."
Tristan smiled as he took in het words that were as always innocent and honest " I thought it's obvious Vienna. Anything that makes you happy makes me happy. Anything that makes you happy will make me happy. What you want is not far away from what I want. I know marrying you is what would make me ultimately happy. I would like us to instead of exchanging views, we go to a church and exchange vows. But I can't do that because I need to be prepared to protect you right now. I want us to have a family with strong pillars where our children won't be threatened with divorce every time we fight. Now tell me what makes you happy?"
Vienna felt self conscious and wanted to change the subject. She didnt know where her courage had come from to talk about her feelings. She felt like she could tell him anything. She tried to change the subject as she cleared her throat "Come on Tristan. I need a further view of you here. Go abit further back."
Trsitan smiled and noticed she was changing the subject. He didnt mind. She was slwoly trusting him with her intimate secrets. He replied "Draw me as I am right now Vienna. Maybe I want to appear abit bigger in the scene. I want you to see more of me everyday. I know you want to frame thison your wall." He then winked.
Vienna looked down and got on with drawing " Its so hard to do this... Tristan.... I see enough of you Tristan. Dont I? I see you every day and you want to appear big in this scene.
Tristan asked "Are you complaining Vienna? I want you to remember who your boyfriend is."
Vienna looked up "I know who you are Tristan. The biggest and baddest guy in the city who will chase any admirers of mine."
Tristan rasied an eyebrow "Biggest and baddest? I am not sure if this is a compliment or not. But Vienna of course I chase away anyone who loves you. You only belong to me. This big two meters half bad boy will always be chasing the rivals.
Vienna shrugged "You are six foot. You always get what you want and.... you are my deadly-fearsome swordsman." She then chuckled to herself as she looked down and got on with drawing him.
Tristan narrowed his eyes "Why are you smiling? I told you not to mention that nickname. Someone started it in school and I am still searching who it was. I havent found clues. The girls basketball team kept chanting it when supporting the team so I know you are proecting the one who came up with it. When I find her, I will teach her a lesson. After Christmas holidays I will question each member of your team about it."
Vienna looked up and gasped "Tristan. Why cant you drop it? I like this nickname..."
Tristan said "Well I dont. No one except you should say it... I demanded it. Remember it."
Vienna spoke slowly and carefully "I know... Tristan... I need to tell you something.... It was me."
Tristan replied "What do you mean?"
Vienna said "You are scary when you sword fight. I chose the name." She then laughed as she looke at his surprised look and decided to take her chance to run. She threw the clipboard and pencil to the floor and got up from the bed. As she turned to run to the door she found herself pulled and she found her back against the bed as Tristan towered over her lying form "You did what?"
Vienna gave him a nervous smile "I like it though."
Tristan narrowed his eyes "Really. You liked that? I wonder if you like this..." He then quickly sat on the edge of the bed and started tickeling her making her laugh so hard.
Vienna begged "Please ....stop..."
Tristan asked "Did you say you want more? Sure." He then tickled her even harder.
Vienna put her hand up and tried to stop him but it didnt work. It never did. She felt helpless almost having tears in her eyes. "I am sorry...."
She then tried to sit up but Tristan pinned her hands to the bed as he was sat on the edge of the bed "Abit too late for remorse. Dont you think?"
Vienna was catching her breath now. At least he wasnt tickling her any more.
Tristan taunted " Next time you do something wrong don't get caught especially by me. Let it be a warning. Tristan then leaned closer to her and kissed her lips deeply.
He wasnt kissing her forecfully or roughly. But his kisses were possessive. She felt his dominance in his kisses. That was how he was. He let her know his dominance all the time.
