Rivendell

I had no idea where to go when I left. But when I woke up, after taking time to rest, I knew I needed to get to Rivendell. I would need to be near a healer during my pregnancy, and I knew there was no one I could trust more than Elrond and his family. I got Arod up and gave him some more to drink. I ate something and gave Arod a couple apples. I mounted him and we were off. It was dark when we left the cave, but I knew that the dawn was quickly approaching. I rode Arod slowly at a walk just enjoying the woods around me. I knew I had to be able ride him hard if danger were to present itself.

~Two Weeks Later (Third person P.O.V.)

Elrond was sitting in his study. An urgent message had some from Estel, by dove, that Legolas had run away from Minas Tirith. They didn’t know where he would have gone, but they asked him to keep his eyes and ears opened. Elrond had scarcely finished reading the letter when horns sounded to announce the arrival of a visitor. Elrond’s sons, Elladan and Elrohir, ran pat his study and Elladan only stopped to poke his head in and say:

“Hurry father! We will need you!”

Elrond was out of his chair and running behind his sons in a matter of seconds. They reached the entrance to their home and in trotted a tired Arod with and exhausted Legolas on his back. Legolas looked at his friends and smiled at them.

“Forgive me,” He said weakly before falling off his horse.

Elrohir caught his friend in his arms as Elladan led the horse to the stables. Elrond took Legolas from his son and carried the young Greenwood prince to the healing rooms, Elrohir close behind. Elrond laid Legolas on a bed and ordered Elrohir to fetch him a cloth and a bowl of water. When Elrohir returned, Elrond undressed Legolas and washed him over with the cloth. That’s when he noticed a small bulge on Legolas’ stomach. The rest of Legolas’ body was skinnier than normal. He decided to pay it no mind for the time being and continue his examination. It was determined that Legolas had just been traveling for a while and was just exhausted and weary from the trip. They let him rest and decided to talk with him in the morning.

~(Legolas P.O.V.)

I awoke with the sun. I looked around the room and wondered where I was. Then I remembered that I’d arrived in Rivendell the day before. I looked around the room again and saw Lord Elrond sitting next to my bed.

“My Lord,” I said, rather quietly.

“Good morning, Legolas,” he said gently. “How are you feeling?”

“Tired. More so than anything else right now.”

        “Are you hungry?”

        “It’s a close second.”

Lord Elrond laughed and helped me sit up. He handed me a plate of fruit and ate his breakfast with me. He didn’t seem to be suspicious at all, so I figured he didn’t know about my pregnancy. I was half right.

“Legolas, while we were examining you, I noticed something,” he began.

        “Yes?”

“You are quite skinny. Have you been eating properly?”

I was relieved that he didn’t say anything about a baby, “I ran out of food on my way here. I’d been traveling for about three days with nothing to eat. But that’s not normally a big deal for me. I guess I was just a bit stressed from the travel.”

“Or something else was stealing away your energy.”

“Pardon, my Lord?” I asked, feigning innocence.

“Your stomach is bulging the slightest bit. What would be making it do that?”

        “I – I… um… I’m not sure.”

        “Are you pregnant?”

I nearly choked on my own tongue. I looked up at him and the look in his eyes said that he wasn’t joking. I looked at my feet and nodded. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up.  Lord Elrond was standing next to me: his eyes were full of worry and sympathy.

“Are you ashamed of this, Legolas?”

“I don’t know. I want to keep it, but I don’t think the father would be very… appreciative of it.”

        “And who is the father?”

“Aragorn,” I confessed. There was no use lying, he would find out the truth later anyway.

        “Estel?”

        “Yes, my Lord.”

I couldn’t meet his eyes. I was afraid of what I might see. Would he be angry, disappointed, offended, or… I was just afraid. I’d told Lord Elrond about my feelings for his foster son once a long time ago. He’d looked me straight in the eyes and told me that Estel and Arwen were together. I knew he was just trying to protect his daughter, but I couldn’t help feeling like he was angered by my confession. Lord Elrond sat on the bed next to me. He put a hand under my chin and turned my face towards his. I looked away from his face.

        “Legolas, look at me.”

His tone was gentle, so I looked up into his eyes, and I was shocked at what I saw there. There was love, understanding, sympathy, compassion, and so much concern that my heart did a somersault knowing he wasn’t angry. I felt tears well up in my eyes and one slipped down my cheek. Lord Elrond wiped it away.

“Legolas, you need not be ashamed. In the letter that Arwen sent, she described the accident. However, she did not say a word of your pregnancy. This reminds me, I need to write them back and tell them you are here.”

        “No!”

        “And why not?”

I turned red, I’m sure, “Aragorn doesn’t know. I don’t think he’d be very happy about it.”

        “What makes you say that?”

I told him about the conversation Aragorn and I had. I knew my face was redder beyond compare. Elrond put a hand on my shoulder and assured me that he wouldn’t tell them if I was so against it. He left me to rest telling me that he wanted me to stay in bed the next few days to recover my strength, and so he could keep an eye on me. I agreed and lay back down on the bed. It would be a long few months and I would take all the rest I could get.
