Chapter 11 ScreenSaver
Adrien's POV:
He looks at the reflection of his mother. He recalls the day he saved it as his screensaver.
It was just two days before his twelve birthday. Times were happier then.
This was long before her Tibetan trip, long before she grew ill, and before she died.
He sees the lovely blue dress she wore that day.
It was the last photo he took of her.
He recalls how she insisted he gets in the picture with him.
If only he had known then what he does now.
The memory is stored on his laptop and as the background to his phone.
It is one precious moment of him and his mother together sitting at the piano.
He wishes he could have gotten more photos before she died.
The screensaver stands as a reminder that things were not always so grim.
It almost seems to mock him. A beautiful piece, yet it makes him sorrowful.
"Mom, how will I find her? You promised to help me. But now you are gone."
Gabriel's POV:
He walks into Adrien's room and sees the familiar photo on the computer and phone.
He frowns, then smiles.
"It is a lovely photo. I think your mother's beauty was captured well, Adrien."
He hears Adrien clear his throat as though it just dawns on him that he is not alone.
"Adrien, come here son!"
He waits for Adrien to step closer to him.
He hugs him and promises from then on that he will do all he can to make him happy.
Adrien's POV:
He thinks, perhaps, his father intends to buy him a puppy, or let him attend a real school.
He shakes his head. No, he cannot trust his father. Not one bit.
His father has already proven himself untrustworthy with all the secrets he keeps from him.
"I just hope my future will be as bad as my past. Otherwise, what is the point in all this?"
