Chapter 9 Adrien's Nightmare & Such

Adrien's  dream is more of a nightmare, and for those who wish to know more about it well here it is for you:

      Marinette, no!  Adrien screams.

Adrien sees her as the current pulls her away from him.  He feels so helpless. He feels the pain from his shoulder since he hurt it on a rock when he jumped into the ravine to save her.  He pushes some water aside and goes back under the water. He grabs her, pulls her close, and climbs out on the land.  He is all wet, but he does not care. He sees she is not breathing.

"Marinette, no!  Breathe for me, please, do not leave me!"  Adrien calls out.

Adrien reaches for her, and she disappears. He looks at Plagg who says, "Sorry, Adrien, she is a goner. There is nothing more you can do for her."

"No, she is alive," Adrien says with sorrow in his eyes.

Adrien looks for her when he does not find her he rushes off to see Master Fu.  He sees her on the mat with a cloth over her body. He looks up at the guardian of the miraculous who only shakes his head in pity.

"I am sorry, Adrien, there was nothing I could do for her. She lost consciousness in the water and never did regain it.  She is dead, Adrien."  Master Fu says.

"No, she is alive!  I know she is still here,"   Adrien protests.

"Sorry, but you have to let her go!"  Master Fu says sadly.

"I am sorry, Adrien.  I know how much you loved her,"  Plagg says.

"No, no!  Marinette,  I love you!"  Adrien says. He pulls the cloth off her lifeless body, holds her, and whispers, "please come back!  Come back to me, my love."  He sobs as he kisses her farewell on the lips.  He pulls away and looks at her. He expects her to jump and say it was all just a misunderstanding. He sees she remains cold and dead. He puts the cloth back over her and runs outside.

Adrien is about to jump.  He runs to the bridge, his feet over the edge when something or someone pulls him back.

"Marinette, would not want this,"  Alya says.

"Let me go, be with her!  I can not live without her, she is my lifeline,"  Adrien says.

"Adrien, your death would not solve a thing.  It would not bring her back. It would only make things worse,"  Alya says.

"Alya, I miss her, so much,"  Adrien says.  He stands on the safety away from the edge part now and looks up in confusion.  His eyes full of pain, sorrow, and guilt.

"I could not save her!  I am sorry," Adrien remarks.  He lets Alya hug him tight.

Nino shows up glad to see Adrien is alive and hugs him too.

End of the nightmare...

Adrien coughs in his sleep.  He wakes up and looks around him. He does not recall where he is at all. He sees a blanket that he does not recognize. He feels sick. He knows he must be delirious because of the events that took place earlier, but why?  Why did he dream she is dead when he knows she is very much alive?  Why did some random people hug him and try to convince him he should move on without her?

"Marinette!  Marinette, where are we?" Adrien calls out.

Marinette hears him call to her. She thinks it is a dream until the voice gets louder. She climbs out of bed, puts on her bedroom slippers, and a robe. She ties the robe's ties tight. She exits her room and rushes to his side.

"Adrien, what is it?" Marinette asks.

"Where are we?"  Adrien asks again.

"Oh, we are in my place,"  Marinette says.

"Your place, but that means," Adrien looks at her in horror.

"Shh, do not fuss so much, it is all right.  I assure you nothing happened.  You just got sick and fell asleep on my couch.  it must have been the fever,"  She says.

"Wh-where did you sl-sleep?"  He mutters.

"I slept in my room,"  Marinette answers, then yawns!

"What time is it?" Adrien asks.

"It is now, at 4 am, but..."  Marinette says.

"4 am, oh no!  I must go at once," Adrien says.

"No, you can not go anywhere, mister!"  Marinette protest.

       "M-Marinette?" Adrien asks in confusion.

"Adrien, you still have a fever, so you can not leave just yet,"  Marinette says a bit less harsh than she did the other time.

"M-Marinette, I-I  dreamt you d-died,"  Adrien says with tears in his eyes.

"It is all right. I am fine, thanks to you.  See, I am right here," Marinette says.

Marinette goes to the kitchen, fixes him a glass of ice water, comes back, and hands it to him.

          "Here, drink this,"  Marinette says.

          "Y-yes, m' l-lady,"  Adrien mutters.

*Author's note:  Just to clear things up, in this story, Adrien is still Chat, and Marinette is still Ladybug.  Adrien does not know Ladybug's identity yet, but still calls Marinette m'lady because he is out of it due to the illness, just thought I should mention this to clear things up.

Marinette blushes and thinks, he does not know, right? She shakes her head and takes the situation to be just too much. She knows he is delirious, but why does he have to remind her of Chat now?

"M-Marinette, why do you take c-care of me?"  Adrien asks. He looks serious despite not knowing what he says to her.

"You are sick because of the cold water you rescued me from so you see I owe you,"  She says.

"I do not think I get it, but sure whatever you say,  m' lady," Adrien says. He chuckles when she turns pink again.

"Trust me, Adrien, I owe you for saving my life," Marinette says.

Adrien drinks some water and notices she stands so close. He would kiss her but is not sure how she would react to his affections toward her. He decides to hold her hand instead. He reaches out and grabs her hand before she can walk off again.

Marinette looks at him surprised but does not pull away. She checks his temperature again and sees it says,  97.6    She tries to stand up, but feels him grab her waist.

"Do not go, yet,"  Adrien says.

"Okay, I will stay,"  Marinette responds. She stays beside the sofa.

Adrien continues to hold her waist with one hand and the other he uses to caress her face.   He sees her respond to his touch with surprise, but then she does the unexpected.

Marinette says, " Adrien, please, I can not love you, I am sorry."

Adrien lets go of her, nods his head and turns so she can not see the tears that stain his cheeks. He thinks, great she will never love me. He sighs, and wonders, why Master Fu thinks he has any chances with Marinette. It is clear to him that she does not wish anything more than friendship.

Marinette walks out of the room, shakes her head, and goes to the kitchen. She sits down at the table and sits there in silence unsure what to do now. She knows his fever is broken, so why did he make her feel things she thought impossible?  Why did she see hurt in his eyes?   Why does she feel as if she is to blame?   What makes her wish she could kiss the pain away?

*Author's note:  It seems  Marinette has developed a small crush on Adrien since he saved her life but does not know how to tell him.   Adrien however, thinks she does not even like him because she did tell him she could not love him.  He is hurt.
