Chapter 6 This is Where the Trouble Starts?
Ladybug's POV:
Ladybug arrives at her place safe and sound. She sobs. She cannot believe it came to this. She does not get it. How? Why? How is that Adrien could be so wonderful and then hurt her like this? Why did he do it? She thinks, could it be there is more to it than meets the eye? She sighs, detransforms, and shakes her head.
She believes it cannot be that simple. There is no way that he is only just angry with me is there? She thinks, perhaps there is something that he knows that he is afraid to speak about something that hurts him, but what? What is it?
Adrien's POV:
Adrien grins a sinister smile. He is under lots of stress lately. He recently found out his father told him all lies about his mother. He saw her in the basement area on a visit to see him when his father thought he knew nothing.
He also, found out Ladybug was Marinette before she told him. He was furious that she would keep this from him. How could she betray him with such a huge secret? Was she that stuck up that she thought she had a reason to hide the truth from him? Was that really it, or was there some other reason that he has not thought about just yet?
Little does anyone know, but Adrien is not quite himself anymore. Ever since he saw his mother just helpless in some odd container with a funny hose attachment that reminds him of the scene from "Batman Forever" where Mr. Freeze keeps his wife alive with some special medicine while she inside some sort of fish tank. It makes him feel sick to his stomach to know his father is some sort of mad man. It disturbs him more than anything else his father has ever done before in the past.
Adrien cannot stand the fact he cannot share this fact with anyone. He is unable to even tell the woman he cares for that his mother is alive, but in a coma. He is unable to say that his father keeps her alive even if she is in pain. He struggles to know what is right and what is wrong anymore. It is these things that make it harder than ever for him not to turn against someone even it means he betrays the woman he loves.
Back to Marinette...
Marinette's POV:
Marinette thinks, what do I do in this situation? What can I do? It is not like I can read anyone elses mind to figure out what troubles them? It is not like I can see into their very soul to determine what it is that makes them all haywire, or is there? She shakes her head in confusion. She frowns and calls up Master Fu. She figures maybe, just maybe he will know what to do!
Master Fu's POV:
Master Fu hears his phone ring. He figures it must be an emergency, why else would Ladybug call him in her civilian form? Why else does she make it sound so urgent? Why else does she appear to be upset, and unsure where to turn? What to do next?
"Marinette, what may I help you with young lady?" Master Fu remarks. He thinks it must be an emergency why else did she call.
Marinette's POV:
"It is Adrien, he appears to be well not himself. He found out I am Ladybug and told me that he hates me. I do not think he meant it though. " Marinette says.
"Oh, I see!" Master Fu says. He scratches the back of his neck as he is deep in thought.
"What can I do? I am afraid for him. I love him and do not wish to see him in pain." Marinette says.
"I know you do. I can tell you love him way more than anyone else has in years. Perhaps, this is part of the problem. Perhaps, he feels he can no longer trust you since she did not trust him enough to reveal your hero self to him right away. Also, the rest might have to do with a family issue." Master Fu says.
"His Family, what do you mean? He is single so he has no children." Marinette responds.
"Marinette, I only meant it might have something to do with his father, or mother. It could even have to do with both! How much do you know about them anyway?" Master Fu says into his phone.
"Very little. I just know his father appears to be a bit of a demanding person, and as for his mother only that she seems to have taken a sudden leave or disappearance out of his life at some point. " Marinette says.
"Hmm, I suggest you look into this. Though, I do advise you do so as Ladybug. This is because the miraculous will protect you better than you can protect yourself without it. Also, it may come in handy in case Chat Noir should show up out of sorts." Master Fu says.
"What? Adrien is Chat though. I do not think he could hurt me." Marinette says. Even now she goes on the defensive side at the thought that he could mean any harms towards her.
"I know you want to believe this, but that still does not mean he cannot hurt you. If his mother turns up he might try to attack you help her. I know this sounds strange, but under the circumstances anything is possible, Marinette. I suggest you be careful, and do not try to face him as yourself whatever you do. Only confront him as Ladybug. Since you are stronger than ever before in hero form you will be fine that way, but I cannot guarantee the same results as Marinette." Master Fu warns her.
"Fine, I promise not to interact with him as Marinette. I will be careful though each and everyday and night. I will. You have my word, Mr. Cheng." Marinette says. She is careful to use his code name. She has no idea if anyone else listens into the conversation or not.
Master Fu's POV:
Later when she hangs up Master Fu looks at Wayzz, and says, "I do hope she turns out to be alright and that this whole thing with Adrien turns out to be a huge misunderstanding. If not, then I have know idea what I will do if it turns out Chat has gone rogue on us."
Marinette's POV:
Meanwhile, Marinette paces back and forth inside her room. She is not sure what to do as no sooner did she finish her conversation with Master Fu than she got a text message. She is not sure what to make of it. It seems to be a plea of sorts. What kind, she is not sure? She is not sure if it is safe to trust the messenger or not. How does she know it is not a trick? She shudders when she recalls how Master Fu thinks, that Adrien could try to attack her if he sees her as a threat because of his mother. She wants to believe that he is not all that bad.
Marinette transforms, sends a reply back and hopes for the best. She thinks, well, I will find out soon enough now, will I not?
Marinette's text to Adrien...
Adrien, I thought you did not want to speak to me. It seems I was mistaken, or you did change your mind. Either way, I want you to know I am here for you.
Ladybug's POV:
Ladybug shakes her head and thinks, now why did I say what I did anyway? It makes no difference either way if he turns out to be a traitor. She frowns, then puts on a fake smile and jumps away. She looks around for him, but does not see him.
Adrien arrives at the spot he told Marinette to meet up with him as herself. He looks around and frowns when he sees she came, but as Ladybug! He thinks, agh! Does she really disrespect me that much? Could it be she suspect something is up?
"Ladybug, why are you here? I thought I told you to come as Marinette!" Adrien sneers at her with disgust in his eyes and voice.
"I am sorry. It is just that you seem so distant. You appear to be different than the Adrien I love." Ladybug mutters sadly.
Adrien's POV:
"Different? Oh, you mean stronger! Well, then, m'lady let us fight, shall we?" Adrien mocks her.
"Fight, why? Why do you wish to do this? " Ladybug ask.
"You really want to know?" Adrien scoffs even more.
"yes," Ladybug says.
"It just that my own father has kept my mother in the basement all this time. She is alive, but in a coma. I feel so hopeless. I have to help her." Adrien says with tears in his eyes.
"Adrien, I am sorry. Really, I am!" Ladybug begins.
"Save your pity! I do not need it. Not anymore. " Adrien says.
Ladybug's POV:
Ladybug watches as his clothes change colors. To her horror, his outfit changes from jeans and a striped shirt to a more up to date suit.
The suit is black, green and white. It has swirls of gray interwoven within it. To make it worse, he now holds a huge staff. This one is bigger than his baton and it resembles the cane she has seen somewhere before. It has question marks all over it. She thinks, no! It cannot be! She sobs when she recognizes the design is similar to that of The Riddler, a figure in the "Batman" comics, cartoons, and movies. She thinks, what has become of him? My Adrien is a modern day crook.
Ladybug has no choice, but to fight him! She is not happy about it. She will do what she can to save him, even if it means she sacrifices herself in the end.
"Well, Ladybug! This is Where the Trouble Starts!" Adrien laughs. Only now he appears to have a different sort of mask on his face, one she can hardly recognize. One that mocks all that she stands for and one that shows his betrayal.
