Chapter 6 Marinette Insists She is Jinxed
Marinette's POV:
Marinette reaches over and hugs Chat. She has no idea why she should do such a thing. It is so unlike her. She thinks perhaps it was the mention of his mother.
"Chat, I am sorry about your mother, I know is hard," She says quietly so that it is almost a whisper.
She hears him whimper then listens as he makes a small purr noise. She thinks he sure is one strange cat.
As the movie continues, Marinette hears a loud thud outside her place and thinks what on earth?
Chat's POV:
Chat feels Marinette give him a hug and wonders what brought this on. He knows she is not typically this welcoming to him. Then, again she did react this way after he told her about his mother. It is almost as if she has a soft side to her after all.
He hears himself whimper then gives off a slight purr. He is glad to spend time with her even if it is while she watches the distasteful film.
Chat feels his hairs on his head stand up when a loud is heard outside her place. He removes himself from her gentle hold on him to check it out. He looks out the peep hole and sees nothing. He checks out the front window and frowns.
He sees a tree has fallen down and it now blocks the front door. He has no clue what to make of it. Sure he knows there is lots of snow left over from the snowstorm that took place days ago. He still did not expect a plant to crash in such a way.
"Marinette it seems there is a tree on your porch," He states.
Marinette's POV:
"Chat, I tried to tell you," Marinette says.
"Tried to tell me what?" Chat asks.
"I tried to tell you that I am jinxed," She tells him.
Marinette seems him frown. She can not say she blames him. It is not his fault she brings trouble everywhere she goes. It is has been something that happened to her ever since her father disappeared and her sister and mother found slaughtered. It was something she felt as if the memory was vague on the details. She is not so sure it is not her fault.
Marinette's flashback...
Marinette hears her mother's screams. She is afraid to look to find out what is the matter. For all she knows it is just a nightmare. It is something that she recalls happening to herself at times.
She runs to the staircase to check just to be sure.
After all, the noises come from that direction. To her horror, she sees her mother, sister, and father at the bottom of the stairs surrounded by men. Men in black suits. She can not understand.
Who are they? What do they want with her family? She thinks.
Marinette races to the place and faces the men. "Please tell me what day it is," She says.
"It is a few days before Christmas, but who cares," A man scoffs.
"Shut up will ya, Carl?" The other man sneers. He does not appear to be to happy with his partner. By partner, his business partner in crime.
"Leave my family alone!" Marinette screams. She charges at them with a baseball bat.
Now, Marinette is so young she barely has to swing it to hit the man in front of her. She smacks him hard with the baseball bat. She sees blood drip from his nose.
"Oh, that was a mistake, kid," The man scoffs. He reaches over and yanks her hair.
"Stop it, she knows nothing," Marinette's father, Tom remarks.
"He is right, she is innocent in all this," Sabine tries to plead with these strangers.
"I do not understand, why are you here?" Her sister asks.
The other stranger who goes by Carl, ties up her sister, then her folks. He places a gag over their mouths, then leads them out the door with a gun held to their backs.
Marinette is now left alone with the first man not far from her. She feels him release her hair and gasps. She sees the wade of hair in his hand. She knows he must have pulled some of it loose. She cries.
She hears him laugh because he thinks it funny. She does not care what he thinks. She knows she is a bad daughter. She must be because she fails to protect her family. It is to late for Christmas to be a good one now. It is all over before it began...
End of Flashback...
Chat's POV:
"Marinette, what were you thinking about just now?" Chat asks.
Marinette does not answer right away, but Chat can tell something troubles her.
Chat hears her sob then watches as she turns off the tv. He sees her fall to her knees.
He looks at her hand and sees a small scratch across it. He is not sure what made the mark. He just knows one thing he is not leaving until he gets some answers.
"Marinette, you are not jinxed," Chat tries to reassure her.
Marinette's POV:
"Oh, that is just it, Chat, I am too," Marinette retorts.
"You see, I just started to remember more about my past," She says.
Chat gives her a look that says do not stop on my account. He waits to see if she will continue.
"Chat, I was there when the men came, " She explains.
"I saw them with my family, I could not save them Chat, and now it is all my fault my mother and sister are dead," Marinette blurts out.
"It is also me to blame for my father's disappearance," She remarks.
She can sees his look of pity, but does not seek it. She rather he leaves and never returns. She can not risk the chance he gets hurt because of her. She is just no good.
Chat's POV:
"You can not possibly believe you are to blame," Chat argues.
"I mean it, Mari," He responds.
"There is no way you could have prevented it, right?" He asks.
Chat sees her shake her head and hears her sobs. He pulls her close despite her protest. It is the least he can do for her under the circumstances.
