Chapter 9 Pardon My Wings

      Marinette's POV:

Marinette hates the fact she had to leave Adrien. She meant what she told him in the note.  Her uncle needs her she is sure of it and besides, who is to say if there are more fairies alive or not?  Sure she knows the keeper of the miraculous is a fairy, so that makes at least three of them including her uncle and herself.

Somehow deep down she believes there must be others that are around, so why has not she seen them?  She sighs as she recalls the sad look Adrien gave her earlier. She wonders what that was all about anyway.

Marinette takes a look around her now that she is the woods. She has to check to make sure she was not followed.  She breathes a sigh of relief to discover she is alone. She removes the earrings, puts them back inside the box, and hides it inside her pocket. Now, she is free to fly as she has in the past.

She flies in the direction she seeks. Once there, she taps on the door.

"Uncle, it is me, Marinette," She says.

 Marinette's  Uncle's POV:
Marinette's uncle does not notice the presence of his dear niece. He is to caught up in the grief of his daughter.  He can not seem to calm down long enough to focus on anything else.

Marinette gets no answer when she knocks on his door, nor as she speaks to him.  She shoves the door open and gasps at the sight.

"Uncle, it is okay, I am here now," Marinette says.

Her uncle turns around at the sound of her voice. He smiles a weak smile when he sees her.

"Your wings, they remind me of your mother," He tells her.

"My mother?" Marinette asks in surprise.

"Yes, I meet her once long ago before she met your father," He explains.

"Well, child, you see, she was a friend to me for a long while before your father came along.  The moment she meant him everything changed.  I was soon forgotten and shoved to the side.  It hurt, but I soon forgot the pain when I met the woman of my wildest dreams," He tells her.

"Do go on dear, uncle," Marinette says when he pauses for a moment.

"I met the prettiest fairy ever she was the sister of your mother and I knew it was love at first sight. Soon, I asked her out, and well the rest is history," He remarks.

"Wow, that is amazing," Marinette says.

"It sure it is my dear niece, oh, and my wife and I never could have children of our own," He goes onto say.

Marinette gives him a shocked look in return to which he replies, "Your mother agreed to be the surrogate for us, and well months later we had our precious daughter.  A few years later, she did the same for us again and we had our son."

"Your mother gave birth to you just a few years after our boy was born,"  He states.

"Oh, uncle I am so sorry she is no longer with us," Marinette says about her deceased cousin.

"I am too as I know how close you two were what with being cousins, but almost like sisters in a way,"  He replies.

               Marinette's  POV:

Marinette thinks I wonder why my parents never told me all this.  Did they think it was too much for me to handle?

She hugs her uncle as she weeps right along with him.

"I know it is hard on us both," She says.

"I also know she would want us to be glad of our heritage," Marinette says with a grin.

"Marinette, being a fairy has its advantages, yes, but you must not tell just anyone," He warns her.

"I know that which is why I have not told a single soul,"  Marinette states.

"I have a friend named Adrien Agreste and he is rather cool," She tells him.

"Hold it, niece, what about keeping your secret hidden?"  He asks her.

"Oh, pardon my wings, " She says with a laugh.

"Marinette?"  Her uncle asks with a scowl.

"Sorry, it just I have these," Marinette says as she shows him the earrings.

      Marinette's  Uncle's  POV:

"Whoa, how did you get a hold of a miraculous?" Her uncle asks.

"You mean you have one too?" Marinette asks surprised he recognizes it for what it is in the first place.

"Yes, I was given one year's ago by someone who knows all about them and the purpose they suit,"  Her uncle says.

"Well, then, you know that I wear them when I go to the village," Marinette explains.

"The village with humans.  No, Marinette is too dangerous," Her uncle states.

He looks angry now at the thought of his sole relative being anywhere near the humans.  His family has feared them forever since they have heard horror stories of the past.  Stories that show why fairies can not trust them with anything least of all their wings.

"Humans want to destroy the fairies which is why I lost my daughter.  It is also, why I tell you now you must never return to the village ever again, Marinette,"  He blurts out.

       Marinette's  POV:

"I am sorry,  but I refuse to believe it,"  Marinette says.

She shakes her head as she recalls how kind and compassionate Adrien was to her. She can not believe someone like him would ever be that violent.  She knows her uncle can't understand.  She has to go back, she must, she can not break her promise to Adrien.

"Humans are not that bad.  Uncle, my cousin died from a broken heart nothing more,"  She argues.

"Your cousin died because she confessed to a human, and he rejected her,"  Her uncle yells.

         "What?" Marinette asks in horror.

"You heard me, she died because a human boy rejected her once he found out she was a fairy,"  He scoffs.

"This does not mean all humans are dangerous though," Marinette interjects.

           Marinette's Uncle's  POV:

"Marinette there is only one reason you would be this stubborn," He remarks.

"Do not tell me you feel in love with a human?"  He blurts out. He sees her look at the floor and hears her tears.

"My dear niece, it is for the best you never see him again.  Believe me, it is not worth the heartache, and devastation," He says.

"How would you know?  You have never met a human!"  Marinette retorts with tear-stained cheeks.

"My daughter is dead because of a so-called human, so how dare you question my authority.  As your guardian, uncle, and sole relative, I forbid you to see him again," He says.

"Now, hand over the earrings,"  He remarks with a frown as he holds his hand opens ready to receive the miraculous from her.

*Author's note:

Whoa, things just got intense here. Talk about a huge plot twist, so anyway what will Marinette do?   She has two choices she can either hand over the earrings and breaks her promise to Adrien to remain "safe" or she can refuse to give them over.  What will she choose?

Poor Marinette seems to have found herself in quite a hard predicament here.
